The realm has collided with our world.

It is up to you to restore the balance.

zSnakez






Pretty much you travel around this town,
going from building to building searching for resources,
keys, and completing missions.

The layout is a mix of linear and open world sandbox, with new enemy AI, and weather day/night cycles.
Based on someones timing, they might have varying game play experiences.





The outside town itself will work as sort of a world map.
Each building and cave etc will have it's own unique set of challenges.
Most areas can be accessed but bring increased danger if explored.

I will be releasing an early alpha version of this map probably either tonight or tomorrow.

This will be a VERY early build of the map, so somethings won't be included.

Here is what will be included in the Alpha:

+Full access to most of the town and its surroundings.
+A fully functioning combat and upgrade system.
+A full range of custom audio to bring you into the experience.

+Missions 1 and 2.

Note: What you see is not what you get, this is not the official release,
more like me saving my progress on here in case my hard drive explodes.

Even the parts that are currently available in the Alpha, will probably be modified and
improved upon in the final release.

There is nothing crazy special here right now, I would put it in the mildly entertaining category as far as
complexity of systems, and overall dialogue.

TL;Dr: Don't judge my RPG too harshly, it's not done yet.

Beta Progress:
+ = Added and Completed
~ = Being worked on

+ Item system online

+ Missions 2 + 3 completed

+ A crap load of bug fixes

+ New sounds mastered and added

+Balance adjustments

+ Options Menu functions perfectly.

* No more lag or miss commands for using it's functions.

* Camera frame rate is now smoother.

~ Night time cycles are underway.

~ New weapons and forms are underway.

~ 3 of 7 missions completed.

~ 4 of 7 will be in the beta.

Hey, this looks pretty damn cool. I'll be hanging around in donuts sometime tonight, I'm sure. If you ever need help testing the map, feel free to hit me up. Weekends are when I'll have more adequate time to spend with it, however.

Beware of bugs. There are some basic changes being made to the systems soon that will remove all current glitches involving the backpack and items.

V.4 Beta Change Log
(Things may be added or removed by release)
Yellow = Work in Progress

Gameplay and Balance Changes
+ Adding a "how to play" option in the "intro option menu"
+ Monsters will no longer spawn until after you get your car keys.
+ Some mission events have been modified to be more entertaining.
+ Mission Dialogues and events will no longer conflict with other activities.
+ Player is no longer teleported every time they do a mission event.
+ Many bugs regarding the backpack and mission events have now been fixed.
* The player can no longer break the game or interrupt sequences with this new system.
+ There is a new pricing format for upgrades.
Ground Weapon Upgrades:
~ 3 + (3 * 7)
Armor Upgrades:
~ 2 + (2 * 7)
Shield Upgrades:
~ 1 + (1 * 4)
* I know these new prices will change the game a lot, but I never intended it to be easy.
+ More experience points now exist for collecting, this should help balance the new prices.
+ Currently Designing a shelter system that can be deployed from the backpack.

Monster AI Improvements

+ A new system called "monster awareness" has been added.
* The more monsters you are encountering at the same time will = more monsters flocking to your position.
~ Monsters can now perform seemingly coordinated ambushes against the player.
+ The Player Will be given multiple options depending on the circumstances.
~ The player is given the additional option to use smoke bombs to escape these encounters if they get out of hand.
* Smoke bombs cost 1 spare parts.

Light Sources/ Day and Night Cycles

+ An Additional half an hour has been added to the game timer.
* This should give players some more time to mess around, and still beat the game.
+ Night cycles now cause the player to lose vision of themselves.
+ Light Sources have been added around the map to use during the night, and perhaps for daytime farming.
+ Light sources provide you with light in the darkness, but they draw a lot of attention outdoors.
* The player is notified 60 seconds in advance of nighttime.
* Nighttime will be designed so it can not conflict with events and boss fights, or more gameplay measures will be added.
+ Overall with the additional time increase 4 rain cycles have been added, and 1 night time cycle has been added.

That concludes the official change log of Realm Beta V.4

By the time V.4 ships, there may be one more beta update. But from there is official release.

I do apologize if it took me some time to get to work on making some basic changes to the beta,
but it is almost complete now.

LATER PLANS:

REALM WILL EVENTUALLY SUPPORT 2 PLAYERS, this map is now fully intended to be multiplayer, but not with this update.

Here are some things to expect:

~ Player 2 will have a differing play experience from player 1.
~ It is not required nor necessary to have 2 people play with you.
~ Player 2 will have powers to look over player 1 and will have the ability to cast certain spells.
~ Player 2 will receive a different kind of income system based off of player 1's performance and time in the map.
Here is an example of player 2's income system:
* Every monster killed by player 1 gives player 2 1 gas.
* This is a flat amount, regardless of the monster killed.
~ Player 2 will also receive 1 gas at the start of every new mission.


Player 2's income system is designed to encourage team work, and rewards for survival and progression.

V.8 Future Planned Changes:

+ Replace current flag in doorspace system with something that doesn't get in the way.

+ Weather event messages will hold first priority.

(If they game wants to tell you it's going to be night time, you should probably know that information)

+ Multiple sound effects will be added, and others remastered to either be heard less or more.

+ Player 2 should have more minions to play with.

+ A new enemy mechanic attached to monster awareness will be added.
(If you draw too much monsters to your area, it will create a large monster that will come and kill you.)

I may have added this already, or I might not have I don't remember actually.

Oh forgot to mention, I may have added an early version of the new monster mechanic. If you somehow manage to have 6 enemies around you in the town area, it will set off a thing.

This is the confirmed change log of Beta 8:

This post will be continually modified to show the changes made.
----------------------------------------------------------------

+ Fixed beginning dialogue for player 1. Was showing stats because of another function. Confusing to new players.

+ Modified Intro Dialogue to show more up to date information.

+ Remastered indoor sounds to be louder, people couldn't hear the rain when inside.

+ Adding 3 new sound effects for various enemy and combat interactions.

+ Player 1 now has an extra life, hopefully more people will be able to push forward now.

+ The outside appearance of the apartments is now smaller. The outside of the hospital is now larger.
~ This is to scale these buildings a little bit more accurately

+ The roads now have less road paint, big game changer here.

+ Player now hears a Silent Hill like static sound when enemies are near, still testing for obnoxiousness.
~ May replace the sound or not use the function at all. We'll see.

+ Added Cats.

Realm Beta 9 will be the final beta release.

Q: When are you going to finish the story/ all the missions?
A: Right now you are playing about 1/3 of the story, the rest will be available upon full release.

Q: The systems you have in place now don't function as well as they could.
A: I will be going over all the triggers and text before release to make them work as well as they can.

Q: Any plans on making it easier for player 1 and 2 to communicate?
A: I have multiple plans, but they are all complicated and may not actually make it in. Get teamspeak yo.

Q: Why should I play Realm Rpg when it is released?
A: Because you're having trouble moving past the year 2008, and because the story and the dialogue involved
will be nothing like you have experienced inside a starcraft rpg before, and I am trying my hardest to meet that statement.

Q: To horse or not to horse?
A: That is the equestrian.

Hey just wanted to pop in here and say full release is underway.

Uh can't say for certain when I'll be done working on this thing here.

Recently I've been working on adding in new content for the player to mess around with while playing.

Mission progression so far has been slow, since I've been messing around with just adding more systems in general.

These are things that when I'm done implementing, I can just stick them wherever I want in the gameplay space,

this includes the new Realm form, a functioning vehicle system, fixing earlier gameplay mechanics, side quests, and new enemies.

Instead of pushing forward with completing the missions, I want to have these new things in place,

so that whan I do indeed make the missions, they can have these new gameplay functions in mind.

Though what I can say is what I do have added works perfectly, and I'm soon ready to push forward with the rest of the missions.

I would expect a release within the next week or two.
