:payne:

Hey y'all!

I am currently in Ventura, California. I'm about to pass a few days around Los Angeles, and I just realized that BlizzCon was going to happen as I'd be right there (it's in Anaheim, which is just South-East of LA).

Who of you will be going? I'm expecting at least Devlin..?

I will be going! (Or try, at the very least.)

Winning the sc2 map-making competition earned me and my team a few BlizzCon tickets. I ended up giving mine away, thinking I wouldn't be around at the proper time.
Bummer!
Anyways, I will simply show up and try to convince them to let me in anyways. :awesome:

P.S. I'd love to free-load whatever hosting solution you've figured out for staying around Anaheim during the duration of BlizzCon. :payne:

Wow, you got a ticket? Impressive. They sold out in like...five minutes.

My friends and I went last year, it was a lot of fun, but we couldn't make it this year. Though that's okay, I don't like Metallica :awesome:

Edit: aww what were you thinking giving away your ticked DX

Definitely did not think that I would randomly end up being at the proper place and the proper time right around the corner of BlizzCon as I would be traveling through the USA... :/

Considering the reason why I obtained the free ticket in the first place, I would definitely hope that they are going to let me in even though I gave it away. But it probably isn't going to happen.
I'll try to get my mapping partners to harass them a bit. If anything, I could show up at the Jam Session Dinner that they are planning on having with the Rock The Cabinet winners.

I believe both Devlin and Ahli have pretty decent relationships with big figures of Blizzard too. Maybe some help from them could be quite beneficial? It would definitely be appreciated. :awesome:

I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.

I've contacted day9's mother, but I might need to give them more information to establish a communications channel with you.

The first reaction was "oh wow. that's tough at this late date.", so don't be surprised if that won't work out (considering you already received a ticket and gave it away).

Yeah, I assume that'll be the reaction ultimately and they won't be able to do much. :/

My jaw dropped that you even have the ability to do this.

Ahli are you and Day9 tight or something? :P

No. I've no contacts to day9 nor ever chatted/spoke to him.

GameHeart and Blizz making Ryan Schutter come to Blizz's HQ for a few weeks created that contact. She managed the forging of a contract to license stuff to Ryan to allow him to alter stuff I've implemented, etc. Sadly, the legal team didn't want me to join that WCS GameHeart project as a UI coder, so Ryan had to learn in within his limited time at Blizz. But I've still received WCS extension mod on bnet and a big shoutout in the news post.
Oh, and I've been promised a beer, if I ever meet her on some event.

What steps do they have to go through in order to allow one extra person in?
What can I do to make it easier?

I would've thought they were not that tight in terms of the amount of seats/places available (in terms of one extra unaccounted person). I'd be glad to simply be standing up whenever I would be required to do so in order to give seating-priority to whoever did have a ticket in the first place. :)

I'm sure that's what thousands of others think, too, and before you know it, the place is overrun by people who didn't get their tickets on time.

Of course, but I kind of thought my situation was somewhat of a special case.

BlizzCon last year was kinda intense from an event planning point of view - I am sure they were at or close to occupation capacity but you never really felt trapped in a crowd. That being said, even when it is "slow" they want to ensure that all event goers can get in at any time, so yes...I'd think they are that tight.

It's more an issue of Blizzard isn't handling the tickets or passes, Eventbrite or some other company is. Either Ahli's or my contacts would have to somehow find someone connected to the event to ask the third party company for an extra pass, and as far as I know that's not something they normally allow. Employees can't even get extra tickets this late. I know you feel like you have a special case, but I think the general consensus would be that you should have just kept the ticket in the first place. :/ And as Dem0n pointed out, this could probably set a precedent.

This seems to be an ongoing problem of yours. There's nothing special about someone getting a pass and voluntarily giving it away. Plenty of people other than you got free passes; the only thing "special" about your case is that you didn't care enough to keep yours.

It's a direct and obvious consequence of your own actions, a decision you consciously made. The fact you believe you deserve two free passes because you decided you didn't even want one: that reflects poorly on you.

It was kind of a sarcastic statement of self-satyre...

Anyways, as said, Providence provided. I got in. :awesome:

Also, you might want to learn about how it is possible, to some extent, to create your own opportunities. It's by trying that you end up getting the possibility of obtaining what you want. I don't think I've done anything wrong by asking them for a favor.

That's odd, considering it perfectly summarized everything else you've said.

You might want to learn about how it's possible to make the most of the opportunities you already have. You know, like doing the minimal amount of planning required to go to a convention, instead of just assuming you won't be there and giving your pass away.

Believe it or not, you can actually end up in specific places at specific times on purpose. Trust me, it's much more rewarding to be able to create opportunities when you aren't simultaneously wasting the ones you already have.

On a side note: I never suggested that it wouldn't be possible to get in, so perhaps you should also learn a bit of reading comprehension. What I said is that it reflects poorly on you to believe you "deserve" to get in; you acted like it was some unforeseeable tragedy that befell you, when it was a direct result of your own actions. For future reference, giving away an event ticket means you're voluntarily forfeiting your right to attend that event.

You might want to learn about how it is possible, to some extent, to take responsibility for your own actions.
