Does anyone know what the hell is up with the old bnet servers atm?? US East and West are completely down for me. On Europe atm!!

They're being DDoS'd apparently, there's a thread on the official bnet forums about it. Go to iCCup or Fish while you wait.

Can someone explain to me the whole appeal of these non-official servers? I always thought they were just for hardcore melee players.

iCCup has a reasonable amount of UMS players, although they tend to play a bit of a different selection of UMS maps than on USEast. I'd say a slight majority of the players are there for melee though. Fish has HEAPS of UMS players but they're 99.99% Korean and play 90% Korean UMS maps, and it also has HEAPS of melee players. Like tens of thousands of players on Fish. Advantages are antihack build into launchers, lower latency if everyone uses the launchers, and working ladder for melee players. Also activish admins and possibility to ban people for hacking/abusing/bad manner.

The person is null routing the ip we connect to for the servers, not ddosing them.

I know it's possible to change the port you connect to for starcraft through regedit, not sure if the same could be done with the ip used to connect to b.net as well. Perhaps Roy or one of the other tech savvy members can verify this. Assuming you're able to change the ip you use to connect, this should resolve the issue since it's evident bots can still connect to each server.

Well when you connect to Battle.net, you're connecting using hostnames so it *should* always resolve to a working ip address if one is available. I'm not completely sure about that but anyways, it is possible to connect to a certain ip address instead.

I find it interesting that it gets stuck at "Get player profile." It's the first time in my bnet history that that's where I see it getting stuck.

That should mean that the server software is online but is denying connections or something.

How exactly is he supposed to be able to null route the server? He would have to have cracked the actual server so he has access, which is a much bigger deal than a simple DDoS.

This was in discussion in the gamergate IRC channel. a Group called "Lizard Squad" has been going around and DDoSing random servers.

Based on what I can see it seems like they have disabanded due to FBI

Based on their Twitter account, they're still around.

They took down CoD servers and an attached chat service after that rumor if I remember correctly
