Having seen a small discussion in another thread about the strange diets some of people here have, I now desire more information regarding the rest of SEN and their diets. This is particularly interesting as most of SEN is from the USA, which is stereotyped outside the USA as having very poor eating habits on average.

So, without further ado, what is your diet like? Do you eat mostly unprocessed food? Do you cook yourself most of the time, or eat out? Is there a lot of sugar in your diet? Do you take a lot of medication, of any sort? Any special diet you're on?

Red classic.

Hello

Eating only this 2-3 times every day, most of the times water instead of the milk, though.
Lost fat insanely fast; spotted my abs pretty soon. I wasn't really fat, though.

Chickenfilet, milk/water, tomato/paprika/other salad.

This had very few fats, very few sugar.
The first week was easy, then at times I wanted to eat pizza so badly but I pulled it; then it was easy again to just eat that.

I mostly eat chicken and grains (pasta, bread, rice, cereal, etc.). I might go out like once or twice a week and get like a chicken sandwich from Wendy's or some tacos or something. I started drinking chocolate milk regularly because I feel like milk has a bunch of stuff in it that I'd otherwise miss (and nuthin' better than a nice bottle of fresh whole milk chocolate milk, mmm). I do sometimes eat fresh fruits (such as bananas, apples or melon) or vegetables (such as lettuce, onions or carrots), but I rarely think to specifically get them. I like to prepare my own chicken (either breaded and baked with cheese in it or on a skillet with some pepper and garlic). I do eat a lot of sugar, but in the past year or so I seem to have cut back a lot (way less soda, less candy, etc.). I only take OTC allergy medicine if I start sneezing (usually like 1 a day, or less often than that). I sometimes take vitamins (my mom gave me multivitamins once .. I'll take one every other or third day. Other days I'll take half a vitamin C, since nothing I eat seems to have much or any).

I probably don't eat the most well-rounded diet, but I feel like I get enough and that I could definitely be eating far worse than I do. :P

For protein I usually eat chicken and occasionally beef. I can't stand pork or pig (outside of spaghetti sauce) and fish is unfortunately expensive to eat regularly. Our dinner menu usually consists of chicken, rice and mixed vegetables a couple times a week, shepards pie once, spaghetti once, and then a wild card/date night/pizza night during the week. Sometimes I make tuna noodle casserole with green beans, we'll do left overs, I accidentally made chicken and rice soup from scratch last week... We pan fry the meat but I don't use more than a tablespoon of oil usually. Usually split a chicken breast between us or only use half a lbs of Italian sausage for spaghetti. We both like vegetables but prefer different types so most of our vegetables are frozen or canned. I make salad with the spaghetti. Our diet is pretty grain heavy in terms of pasta but we eat hardly any bread unless we're eating out.

I eat out for lunch usually but I typically stay away from places like McDonald's or wendys. I prefer fast casual food, my favorite being Tokyo Joes, which is usually rice, chicken and vegetables. Sometimes I get sushi. Though today all I had for lunch was a single serve packet of almond nut butter with honey and I just can't figure out what else I could possibly be hungry for. Other times I have canned xhicjen noodle soup but I like potato chowder too. Sometimes I eat cheezits or goldfish and just snack instead of having lunch but if I don't have them in the house I don't really care.

I'm terrible at eating fruit or drinking juice. I find looking at fruit gross; I really can't explain it, because once I get past looking at it I don't mind eating it. All I see is a chunk of sugar. Ick. I like blueberries though, but only in small quantities. I like to bake but I have a terrible time unloading my baked goods on people and because of the sugar thing I don't eat a lot of baked goods (I have cookie dough in the fridge right now from a friend's daughter's fund raiser which is problematic).

It is easier to eat better now that my schedule is easier to manage and now that I'm removed from things like potatoes (which we only have if I make shepards pie or if we go out) that were available every day at the cafeteria in my old company's building. We still find ourselves in a cycle of eating out to procrastinate grocery shopping but again we try to not go to places that serve primarily burgers. It helps that he doesn't like the burger joint I do like and vice versa :P it was REALLY hard, when I was coming home at 8pm and leaving at 6am, fit us to cook at home so we used to eat out a lot more than we do now. His schedule was nor a whole lot more forgiving either. It was very frustrating. Trying to fit in chores, errands and sleep within roughly ten hours of time a day really fucks you up.

Sorry to respond in plural terms, but when you live with someone else it is cheaper and easier to jointly plan meals.

Since you asked about medication, I'm only on birth control. I only bring this up because I've recently started it and since then I've noticed cravings have gone down and I've lost weight. However this all started at the same time my life became a great deal less stressful and when I started exercising regularly again so I think there are multiple causes. I used to be on meds for an over active thyroid but that is seven years ago now.

I will end by saying my absolute favorite thing in the whole world is buffalo. Beef just doesn't compare. Omg. So good. So expensive.

I have no idea what to put here... So I guess I'll just put this here.

- I tend to stick to meat than any other food. Wings, Chicken, Hot Dogs, Pizza Rolls, Fish... I hate Ham though, it tastes absolutely terrible. Haven't had bacon in at least a year.
- I also eat donuts, cookies, ice cream, and cake... Although I stick to specific kinds, like chocolate chip cookies, or glazed donuts... I only eat Fudge Swirl ice cream too.
- I mainly drink around 2 liters of Mountain Dew daily. Sometimes water, or milk when I feel like it... Apple Cider is something I love though, wish it was around for every season though...
- Never eat fruits or veggies... (I don't count Mashed Potatoes, Ketchup, or Fries [Although I rarely eat any potato product] as items in this category)
- Sure, my diet sounds really bad, especially paired with the fact that I never exercised until I was about 18 (I'm almost 20 now)... But I'm 5 foot 9 inches, and my weight has stayed at 145 lbs (65.779 Kg) since I was in 9th grade... About 5 years ago. Been on this diet since I was about 10 too... Parents tried hard to get me off of Mountain Dew and to eat fruits and veggies, but I'm stubborn.

Rather die during what I love. Better than dying of AIDs or something.
But what if I live longer than all those health nuts... I bet I'll probably be dead in my 40's nonetheless. :poke:

This is what I do, and how I plan to do better.

I dislike frozen foods and prefer to make everything fresh from scratch. I've baked my own bread, pizza, and cookies rather than buy them from the store. I eat out about once a week.

Breakfast consists of yogurt or eggs along with bread. Sometimes I cook breakfast tacos.

Lunch is often a sandwich or pasta. A cold vegetable like carrots or a salad often accompanies this.

Dinner is my largest meal. Rice is my most-often consumed starch, followed by potatoes. Usually I have about ~1/3 lb. of meat (chicken, fish, pork beef) prepared on the stove. I always have a vegetable of some sort with dinner.

I feel like I eat large portions. Grocery stores sell things like asparagus in one-pound bundles, so I end up eating half the pack at a time. Yet I still weigh below-average for my height.

I mainly drink water and milk. Sometimes I have coffee (or rarely, tea). I avoid soda, and drink it at maximum once per week.

How do I plan to eat healthier? I was inspired after reading Antifragile. Thousands of years ago, humans didn't have reliable food sources. Humans didn't eat 20 grams of protein, 100 mg of vitamin C, 15.7 mg of iron, etc. every single day. They might consume 70% of their calories as grains one day, have no food the next, and then consume 1500 calories of meat after that. On average, they might have 20 grams of protein every day, but individual days rarely had exactly the amount of each nutrient "recommended" by nutritionists. I ought to stick random days of near-fasting into my schedule, and "overconsume" slightly on other days.

Win by luck, lose by skill.

If you're talking about large portions of vegetables, then you can eat as large of portions as you want and still only be getting a handful of calories. :P

I've seen diets which attempt to emulate the diets of the past; however, the thing I can't understand is why you would want to copy a less-than-ideal diet when you can make a more exact and ideal diet for your body, as we understand dietary needs better now and (some of us at least) have the wealth to be able to eat exactly what we need.

You make an excellent point, Jack: thousands of years ago, the average lifespan was closer to 40 years rather than 90 years; we've increased our lifespan through the study of medicine and health. The thought that depriving the human body of nutrients will have a positive benefit is unfounded and sounds absurd, and it perplexes me that people buy into it.

That's a pretty silly conclusion. People thousands of years ago ate whatever they could get their grubby hands on. The amount of nutrients they would get would largely depend on what food sources are available to them at the time. We weren't so incompetent to be starving all of the time. The actual amount of working time spent by hunter-gatherers for getting food, for instance, isn't a whole lot.

In any case, starving yourself for a day is just plain silly. There is something called intermittent fasting and I'm not aware of any serious benefits concerning it. The only thing you're really doing by not eating for a day is just using sugar stored in your liver.

I eat lots of eggs. If there were ever a true "superfood", it would be eggs.
