Here have a new server, hosted by Lingie and myself. We are the Feed the Beast modpack "Monster" to play. It is a compilation of over 180 mods, including favorites like Industrial Craft 2 and Thermal Expansion.

Sweet. Me and a friend were just looking for a new FTB server to play on. Haven't tried the Monster pack yet, but I've played a lot of FTB Ultimate in the last few years.

Excellent! We'd love to have you. One thing though, its a white list server, so you'll need to set up on our site, and fill out the small form. Takes no time at all.

I'd like to play in that server.

For those who attempted to connect, we recently had an outage that caused the server to go down, then found an error with the router, leasing the IP to the wrong client. I have written up a full report on our site, which you can read below if you prefer.

Detailed Report:

At 6:22 PM Eastern Daylight Time, users began to inform us of some downtime with our server, and we started to investigate possible issues. Some time passed without any luck, and players who had purchased online features will be added on to until the issue is fixed.

At 9:28 PM, Lingie and I discovered an issue with the DHCP table on our router. It was leasing IP addresses as the computer connected, rather than making them static, causing all of the port forwarding to move to Lingie's computer, which does not house the server. Upon discovering that my local IP had changed (192.168.1.101 ->192.168.1.102), we moved the port to the correct IP, and applied static DHCP tables.

At 9:34 PM EDT, the server is back online, using the correct IP on the LAN. We apologize about the inconveniences this has caused, and are applying an extra day to things such as VIP.

What are some good mods to try out? I've started to branch out of vanilla and have only been running Buildcraft and Tinkers' Construct for the past week.

You should try some of the Feed the Beast modpacks. My personal favourite is FTB Ultimate, though it uses a rather old MC version. Currently we're playing around with the Monster pack.

How old are they?

Apparently Better Than Wolves is really good. I think it's like super hardcore or something.

Monster uses MC version 1.6.4, while Ultimate uses 1.4.X.

I like the way it will probably make hardcore more fun, because that gets boring pretty quick once you get set up.
I would stand being set back a version, but 3 versions seems like too much...

This. I can't enjoy any other mod now. Better Than Wolves is the best out there.

The installation guide really didn't help beyond the renaming part. I hadn't modded MC since like early Beta so I spent my time looking for a bin folder.
I eventually got it. I always assumed Minecraft would be poorly organised forever

So UHC looks rather fun. Anyone here try that before?

I'm not really a fan of that kind of maps in Minecraft. I've always considered MC as a gathering and building game rather than a combat game, although I do like puzzles and stuff. I once made a small bound-like house in Tekkit, which was kinda cool

No, it was for a competition on a server I played on two years ago. Iirc the competition area got cleared after it was over and the server is also long gone.
