I present a short feature requests list I came up with over the years to address small problems.
Problem 1: I want to see the latest posts across SEN, but I visit infrequently and thus have no clue if I am missing any new posts or threads when the "Last posts in our forum" panel on the front page.
Request: It would be useful to have a page similar to "Last posts in our forum" but whose job is exclusively devoted to finding the latest posts, up to perhaps the last 50 (or some user-specified amount with some ceiling that is reasonable).
Problem 2: I get confused when people change their usernames and I don't always want to wait or sift around for hours in the shoutbox to find out who they are.
Request: A small list of past usernames on people's profile, a la Steam's past nicknames list.
Problem 3: SEN is the worst pile of nostalgia ever.
Request: Let me help develop for SEN! I took a course for HTML, CSS, SQL, JavaScript, and server-side scripting with CGI and Java.
Problem #1: Will take note.
Problem #2: Will take note as well. Probably make namechange-logs public.
Problem #3: Maybe you can help me with some javascripts quite soon to be honest, I will let you know.
Please report errors in the Staredit.Network forum.
We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch
1: Front page
2: It exists, but is mods only.
1: Possible, though given how low activity is on SEN I'm not sure how effective a dedicated page will be. It would probably just be easier to mark all forums as read when you stop coming to SEN and then see which forums have new threads in them when you're next on.
2. Like Nude said, this exists already, but I didn't realize it was only for mods. It is definitely possible.
3. I'll leave that up to Devourer.

Okay, thanks for the quick replies.

1: It would be nice to be able to get a JSON object response for this, as well as for recent shouts. Less loading/parsing on my end.
2: I noticed quite a few members that changed their name who didn't want to be recognized/remembered by their old name. If it's going to be publicized, perhaps there should be functionality to hide previous names if the member desires this.
3: Brush up on PHP if you want to do server-side stuff. Other than making a new skin, I don't think there's much you can do for the HTML/CSS because the other skins rely pretty heavily on the DOM structure from what I can tell. JS is probably your best bet for contribution.
1) I was originally under the impression that this would be a simple change, but I guess not?
2) Yeah, that's true. I would default to a "private" list but offer the option of changing it to "public."
3) oh noes, PHP. I heard that the language was terribly over-complicated/ambiguous. JS sounds fine though. If not, I'll just learn whatever I need to and then do it.
It may be a simple change, but it'll have to be put on the backburner as we work on larger fixes to things at the moment.

PHP is a fantastic piece of software. Actual example of operator precedence from the
PHP Manual:
<?php
$a = 1;
echo $a + $a++; // may print either 2 or 3
$i = 1;
$array[$i] = $i++; // may set either index 1 or 2
?>
Yes, you are reading those comments correctly.
I'm sorry, but where is the "like" button? =)
