Since there has been a lot of discussion in the shoutbox about programming, I was wondering how many of SEN actually program. You might be computer science majors, full-time developers, or maybe it's just a hobby.

Win by luck, lose by skill.

We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch

I used to program a lot as a hobby or during school or studying. Started with QBasic, went over to Turbo Pascal, then got introduced to C and C++ and even learned Assembler.

Now I'm not using any of those anymore. But I'm occasionally using a couple of non-programming languages like SQL-Statements, Powershell, Batch, HTML and of course StarCraft Text Triggers, when the need arises - professionally or otherwise.

We already had a pretty comprehensive poll for this subject. Check it out: http://www.staredit.net/topic/15237/

But yes, obviously most of you already know that I program both professionally and as a hobby. In fact, I've been getting really into JavaScript recently; maybe I could contribute toward developing Sen!

Just here for the activity... well not really

I study CS and do contest programming through a club/with friends. It's a consistent exposure to code, good practice for programming as a team, and a healthy form of competition.

Oh hi Esponeo.

I am taking a course in C and Java this year. :)
And I know TI-83+ (somewhat VB). :kame:
I remember doing ActionScript too. And CSS. But I don't think that last one is an actual "programming language".

EDIT: I forgot that, in the same category as CSS, I have done LateX as well!
HTML a bit.

I know Latex and use it to type up my math homework. Does that count? I'll just put "Other".

No, that's markup - telling a computer how to display your text, not programming - telling a computer to do an arbitrary series of tasks.

Just Here For The Pie

I used to be really good at AS 2. When AS 3 came along, I did not want to relearn the language.
Right now, the only programming I am doing is sequencing midi notation. However, I would like to write my own VST and integrate custom Soundfonts into it.

whatever that language is, it looks bad

I've been programming during breaks and lunches at work, but that's about it, lately, and I'm bad at it.

Sounds like a shitty program.

I learned a smattering of C++ and MATLAB my freshmen year. Sophomore year I started a minor in Computer Science. Our school does Java for CS so I learned that. I also learned assembly for PIC18, but I don't really remember much of that anymore. It is assembly, though, so I could probably pick it back up pretty quickly. Junior year I learned a lot more MATLAB to the point where I would call myself proficient. The following summer I got an internship with an engineering firm doing almost exclusively software shit. My first project was an Access DB for internal use, so I learned SQL and VBA.net. Then I got put on a project for that called for Python, so I started learning it. The project got canned a few days later, but I tried learning Python through Project Euler exercises. I never did any problems hard enough to warrant me learning the more advanced parts of the language like classes and stuff. Then I worked on a huge software project in C++. I learned a lot about C++ through that. Then I came back to school for senior year and I'm the sole programmer on our design project. It's on a fucking PIC18. Thankfully, it's not in assembly. Unfortunately, our shitty compiler only supports a subset of regular C. It's a nightmare. I also learned x86 assembly.

So yeah, I program regularly.
