The rules as written basically let people choose their own roles. A few lucky people might get enough money to switch or add an additional role later on. Might as well just ditch the money concept and let people choose their roles.
None.
I think the difference would be in the pricing. Some things are inexpensive enough that you can mix and match them, while other things cannot be purchased at all unless multiple people pool their money together.
The money pooling thing seems pretty intentional, too, since it adds to the amount of teamwork you can have with a team. It also provides more room for deceit and trickery. What if you accidentally give a mafia member your money?
Or, everyone can just buy dynamite vests.
See, it'd be much more interesting if there were more mechanisms for gaining money: every civilian alive at the start of each day gets $200? Or all players including Mafia?
Because at the moment, most likely very little money will be earned, and probably spread amongst enough players that the money concept is more or less meaningless to the game and could just be replaced by players choosing their own roles.
None.
The pricing can always be changed. If enough people think the prices are too high, I can lower them, but I made them so high so that teamwork would be forced. Players are also rewarded money, but only if they're successful with their actions, which forces them to be more careful about what they choose to do from night-to-night.
Also, everyone could buy a dynamite vest, but then if a mafia player picked the Mad Chemist, he could just use his viruses to kill people, since I'm not counting that as visiting the player on the night of his/her death. Furthermore, the Saboteur could rig votes and give the mafia an upper hand during the day. And besides, I think people would rather have fun with a game like this, where you can choose your role, instead of just buying one item and not doing anything during the night for the entire game.
How many more people do you need to get this rolling, Demon?
I think the 'pooling money together' thing falls down given the cost of most of the items, and the risk of buying an item and being immediately killed, or buying an item and not gaining any useful benefit from it (end early voting, revolver).
For example, a revolver on day 1 is not useful, but by day 3-4 when it might start being useful, likely all the townies will have spent their money or had it stolen, so they wouldn't be able to afford it anyway.
None.
Yeah, I'll think of a better way to ensure that people don't run out of money too quickly. I thought of adding a bank that you could get loans from (lul), but then I realized that it would be way too complicated.
The way people don't run out of money is by not being terrible and losing their money. I thought that was half the point of this setup.
Yes, because if you get mugged, you're obviously a terrible player.
None.
I already have a strategy to prevent getting mugged while still keeping money, so yes, you're correct.
Ultimately, not all civilians can be always protected from mugging. So again, it is not true that if you are mugged, you are a terrible player.
