Pirate RP

"I was wondering if you were going to let me to plunder your booty."

All hands on deck! It's time for another one of these pointless RPs. This time, instead of being an average idiot in the 21st century, you get to be a pirate! Using your Physical, Mental, and Social ability (PMS Strength, Intelligence, and Charisma), make your mark on history by becoming the most successful pirate of all time.

RULES:
-Everyone controls the main character.
-I will take whichever action I feel is appropriate for the situation.
-Your SIC stats determine your chance of success when performing certain actions.
-Do not be too generic in your actions.
-Any action you perform may have an impact on later options in the game.

You didn't ask for this. No one asked you if you wanted this. Well, they did ask you, but only with a couple dozen swords pointing at your neck. But that's besides the point. The important bit is that you're here now, laying on the swaying hammock that passes for your new bed on the Devil's Trident.

So what are they planning for you? They'll probably keep you as a low-level deckswabber for the next couple of years. That is, of course, assuming that you're staying here, that you won't try to run off the next time the Trident drops anchor. It's not like you're going to rise through the ranks in the ordinary way, proving yourself in battle, or take over the ship in a bloody mutiny. So what's the point?

The sun has just begun to rise, and a new day lies ahead. You hear footsteps as another crewmember approaches the cabin. The freshly captured mumble in their sleep.

"Good morning, landlubbers!" exclaims the pirate as he swings open the door, knocking over a couple of glass bottles. "Aren't you excited to be aboard the Devil's Trident?" He grins suspiciously wide as he turns toward you.

"What's your name, boy?" He waits for you to answer.

"Well, Nicholas Red, I'm highly glad to see your eyes already open." The pirate surveys the others, who are rubbing their eyes and yawning.

"For all of you who were too drunk or wounded to remember me from yesterday, I'm Quartermaster Peavey. We don't care if you used to be an admiral or a scoundrel. Everyone starts out equal on the Devil's Trident. And since dear Nicholas Red is the first lad I've seen this morning with his eyes already open, I'll let him have first pick for today's assignments. As I mentioned yesterday, you'll eventually all have well-defined roles on the Trident, but until then, you'll be given the chance," Peavey grinned at this part, "To experience the finest career opportunities available to you."

A few of the other sailors grumbled. A few shrugged. It couldn't be worse than serving in the Royal Navy, right?

"What kinds of 'opportunities' are we looking at, Peavey?" you ask.

"I'm so glad you asked, Red! We lost our best chef in battle yesterday, so the galley could use some new hands. We also have a lot of repairs to the masts and hull that need to be done. And of course, there's always a need to get water out of the leaky bilge, especially since we'll need some extra space to hold all the plunder we captured yesterday." Everyone could tell that Peavey liked that last bit.

"So what'll it be, Red?" All the eyes in the cabin turn towards you.

Repair the masts AND clear the water out the bilge

Keep an open ear while you work on the plunder of yesterday; see if the other pirates are talking about it or have new information concerning the haul. Look for specifically chatty or needy companions who will enjoy your attention and hopefully give you more information.

Feb 18 2013, 9:11 pm Azrael Post #12

(Since Wing suggested repairs first and clearing the water second, I'll also suggest them in that order, but with some added details.)

Point out that with so many jobs being done by so many men, it'll be impossible to supervise them all at the same time. Tell him that, not only will you help with the repairs, but you're even willing to take on the responsibility of overseeing the other men assigned to the repair work. Ensure him that the work will get done faster if someone they're accountable to is there, and that means more time they can use to work on other things, like getting the water out of the bilge.

No! Don't listen to Az! No one likes being a narc!

Feb 18 2013, 9:22 pm Azrael Post #14

I didn't say you actually had to get anyone in trouble later; that's not even relevant at this point. In fact, it'd be better to convince the people you supervise of your own worth, rather than relying on that of the captain. I thought the strategy being utilized was fairly obvious: distinguish yourself to the captain while simultaneously using the opportunity to garner fear or respect from the crew. Either will work, really.

After all, the only way you're ever going to become captain of this ship is if you supplant the current captain. That is the goal, right?

Or steal the booty become your own captain with hookers and blackjacks, then kill this captain.

Or forget that middle part, just kill the captain. You don't need to be buddy buddy to do it; just slightly less drunk than the other pirates.

You guys all suck. Every RP so far everyone is completely lame except me.

Just say "Yarrr."

Interestingly, our strategies aren't mutually exclusive :kame:

You feel an urge to stab Peavey, but you cannot find your sword. Instead, you tell him, "I'll head the team repairing the masts. With so many sailors, we'll need someone to organize the work and make sure the repairs go smoothly."

Peavey responds, "Sure, you can work on the masts. But as one of the most successful business ventures in the Atlantic, we already have able-bodied men to supervise our crew. Besides, you just came aboard, how do we know you're not trying to start a mutiny? That goes for all of you who think you can just take control of the Trident. Show us that we can trust you, and then you'll be given more responsibility."

The others nod in agreement, or shrug with antipathy. The quartermaster proceeds to ask and assign the others their tasks. Once everyone has a task, he begins directing the new crewmembers to their work areas.

"If ye be repairing the masts, head up, amidship and meet with Robert" announces Peavey.
