OVERWATCH STATUS GO

Btw. why is that Devlin? It's hard to make an educated decision within 24 hours when you have to coordinate between time zones. Feels like speed Mafia and I don't like it. :/
I thought about doing 48-hour days and nights, but I'm going on vacation for a week next Friday, and assumed (correctly, as it turns out) that I'd have to postpone the game for the holiday/my trip or prematurely end it because it would have gone on too long. So then I was going to do 24-hour days and nights, but I don't remember why my mind was changed on that one. I think I settled on 48-hour nights and 24-hour days because it always seems like a lot of the talking and planning goes on at "night" to plan for the lynches (or at least that's how it seemed in all the alliances I was in in prior games). On top of that, I figured voting would be similar to how it went in Roy's game where it essentially ceased almost a day early, and we just waited around to see what happened. I wanted to avoid that, especially as it is apparent that a lot of players have just lost interest or been preoccupied with other things. Plus I suppose thematically the crew is making hasty decisions in a time of chaos and paranoia. :awesome:

seems like Seductress was jailed. Security officer, please report to Vrael who you jailed, so we know who to lynch. And hurry, we only have 24 hour days...

Btw. why is that Devlin? It's hard to make an educated decision within 24 hours when you have to coordinate between time zones. Feels like speed Mafia and I don't like it. :/
Yeah, I complained about the short voting cycles when the game started; it makes more sense to have the day longer than the night because of voting discussions.

I first read the night post to mean the Seductress wasn't jailed, but looking back:
Quote from DevliN
Some of the familiar faces around the place weren't there that night. That was suspicious. I was hoping to see some eye candy, but I guess she was... occupied. [Laughing]
That does seem to be written ambiguously; I'm guessing Devlin was just trying to throw the Cylons a bone by not outright saying the Seductress was jailed.

Anyway, TiKels and Bio are the last two Cylons. Bio was jailed last night, making him the Seductress. TiKels was "confirmed" to be innocent on Night 3 because we jailed him based on his behavior, but the Hitman still killed someone and the Seductress still seduced someone on that night.

Quote from Roy
TiKels was "cleared" despite my suspicions, which is why I stopped pushing for his lynch. However, I've found it odd that nobody came forward as being seduced, so I confirmed it with DevliN: seduced victims don't get a notification PM. This means anyone "cleared" by the Security Officer may not actually be cleared at all, since a seduction on the Security Officer would prevent the jail from happening. I went back to the night TiKels was supposedly jailed. It reads as follows:
Quote from DevliN
So there he was staring at someone else in the common room when that woman came up and started flirting. Actually flirting is putting it lightly. This was more like a welcomed sexual assault. [Laughing]
Note that on that night, there was no mention of someone getting jailed. "Staring at someone else" sounds like the seduced person had a night target, meaning they were either the Doctor, Vigilante, or Security Officer. Since Demon used Paranoia on this night, I think we can rule out Vigilante. I think based on the wording it is very likely that it was in fact the Security Officer who was seduced, meaning if TiKels were the Hitman his night action would have gone through. The Cylons didn't seem to know that they targeted the Security Officer, though, as they seem to be pairing up their Seductress and Hitman target for some reason in these recent cycles.
Fits like hand in glove. So we have:

Hitman: TiKels
Seductress: BiOAtK
Mole: Fire_Kame
Traitor: Aristocrat

Game, set, match?

I vote TiKels.

Quote from DevliN
Note: This is the order of night actions (not necessarily reflected in game posts):
- Vigilantes rig bombs for paranoia, if applicable.
- Security Officers imprison.
- Seductresses seduce/influence, Moles clear/frame.
- Doctors protect, Scientists investigate, Crewmembers dodge, Bulletproofs save. Quorum Members vote, if applicable.
- Hitmen stalk, Vigilantes stalk.
- Day.

It looks like Security Officers imprison before seduction. Does imprison go through even if the Security Officer uses imprison on a third party, even if he/she was seduced?

Anyways, I vote TiKels.

Win by luck, lose by skill.

In terms of the Imprison/Seduction thing, I suppose I should have put them on the same line.
  • The Security Officer can prevent a Seduce/Influence action if he or she targets the Seductress and the Seductress is not targeting the Security Officer.
  • The Seductress can Seduce/Influence the Security Officer if the Officer is not targeting the Seductress.
  • If the Security Officer and Seductress target each other, then the Security Officer's action takes precedent.

I don't believe so; the priority list has traditionally been used to confirm what happens when two or more conflicting actions occur. I'm pretty sure it's ordered like that to show that the Security Officer's ability will always beat the Seductress', so in the event that:

1) Security Officer jails Seductress
2) Seductress seduces Security Officer
3) Vigilante/Doctor/etc. targets Seductress

The Seductress will not be targeted by the third person because s/he is jailed.

Edit: Ah, Devlin answered it. :P

Quote from DevliN
The "authority" line can be attributed to moderation on SEN, implying Roy, Zycorax, and at one point in time, Stacy Keibler.
And Nude :awesome:

So wait, was Aristocrat a Cylon? We never framed him or anything. I'm surprised I missed the 15 edits on N6. I didn't really pick up any of the clues from N1 and N2, but I got one from N3, N4, D4, and assumed N5's "never see it coming" was referring to our verified town hub rather than me.

Sorry for all the lying, guys. :( Apparently Nude was planning on getting Demon to kill me at one point.

Demon was the only potential hub that wasn't a Cylon. That series of coincidences that "verified" Stacy really put the Cylons at a significant advantage.

Good game!

Dec 14 2012, 2:31 pm Azrael Post #353

Seems like a good game, except for one point: A Mafia game isn't supposed to end until only one team is capable of achieving victory.

A Doctor, Vigilante, and Security Officer could have easily won against a Hitman and Seductress (who were the only two Mafia roles capable of doing anything at night at this point).

The Vigilante could have killed the Hitman, Seductress is locked up by the Security Officer (which seemed like an extremely likely outcome since that's already who he was imprisoning previously), and the Doctor protects the Hitman's target. The next day, it's 3-to-3, and BioAtk hadn't been voting, which gave a potential win for the Town.

Speaking of which, the Cylons didn't even meet their own victory condition:

Quote
The Cylons win when their current votes outnumber the Crewmembers' max vote capability on any given day.

The Cylons current votes totaled 3. The Crewmembers' max vote capability totaled 4. 3 definitely doesn't outnumber 4.

The purpose of this is to take AFK Mafia into account in determining a potential Town victory (which, in this case, it would have).

That being said, aside from the victory being premature, it looks like the game was being largely controlled by the Mafia. I'd have been interested to see if the Town could have pulled together and figured it out in order to save themselves when it came down to the wire. I really think these games get a lot more interesting when it's clear the game is on the line; the more "guilty" people that die without the game ending, the more suspiciously the Town is forced to look at the people they trust.

We were four pretty much all the way. Bio was active, but never voted for some reason.

Dec 14 2012, 2:42 pm Azrael Post #355

That's irrelevant. There's no way to say "well Bio could have voted if he wanted to but he didn't even though it was required to win." The fact that the Mafia weren't keeping good enough track of the voting numbers to know all their votes were required to win is their own fault.

The Cylon victory condition was:

Quote
The Cylons win when their current votes outnumber the Crewmembers' max vote capability on any given day.

This never happened at any time.

If your entire team couldn't be bothered to vote in order to meet the victory condition, then they shouldn't have won.

The single victory condition was laid out pretty simply. There should have been one more full cycle.

Ah well, a victory is a victory ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

BiOAtK didn't vote as part of the Day strategy (we were talking about this via PM; Devlin's been included in the list of recipients for all our PM discussions). Bio was active at the time. Besides, the Hitman would have hit the Doctor, and the Seductress would have influenced the Security Officer to the Vigilante, so the Doctor could not have been protected. It was a solved game and we met the victory condition implicitly, so Devlin ended it.

I wouldn't have complained with another cycle (we already organized the plan), but I'm fine with it ending on this one.

So I was right in interpreting the comment that Vrael was legit as being false correctly, I just made the wrong implications from it.
