NHL 2013







This is a pretty fun sports map I decided to make, it is similar to the map "Basketball Street" in its controls. Recommended players are 2v2 or 3v3. Shuttles are your hockey "players", and you unload units inside of them to perform actions, such as, "STEAL/SLAPSHOT" "WRIST SHOT" and "PASS". Shots will shoot at an aimer behind the net. A regular shot will shoot towards where the aimer was when you shot, a wrist shot will follow the aimer throughout the shot. Players take turns playing goalie.

I decided to make this map for the luls but as it turns out it is as popular as any sports map can be nowadays, and a decent amount of people are always online on USEAST who are willing to play it. There are already some serious pros out there, and it gets pretty competitive. One last thing to note is that this IS the beta version, and hopefully with some more bug testing, tweaking, and a little more time, I will be able to release a final version.

I haven't tried it, but I feel like using a shuttle for something like this would be impractical because the delay between when you click on the unit and when it actually unloads could significantly slow down the gameplay. Depending on how many controls you actually have, maybe you could use 1-2 zerg units that could morph to perform one action and then burrow to perform another? I feel like that would be faster than unloading a unit. Well, now that I think about it, maybe burrow would cause a delay as well, but morph would certainly be faster.

Unloading a unit from a shuttle does not hinder a shuttle's movement at all, so it's definitely the fastest method (as far as keeping the player moving the fastest). There is a delay for the shuttle unloading, but it's more important for the shuttle to be able to keep moving. As far as the shuttle unload delay, it's all about learning the timing of things and doing something about a second before you expect it to happen.

Edit: Also, i'd like to add, if anyone wants to play, come to channel "pub" on useast.

What about making use of the eup's and using a ling with shuttle options to drop units? Shuttle just seems really sluggish to me and if it were me i know i would get bored from the slow pace. It's your map though, just a suggestion.

I just downloaded and played this map and it seems to have some x2 speed so it's not all that slow. Seems like a fun map leeroy, I'll give it a shot some time with people I know.

Leeroy, go check out Devilesk's "Futbol EUD" map. He uses zergling and their burrow mostly, except for passing, which uses an EUD that detects selected unit.

Ah ok, good to hear. I just assumed it was like other sports style maps that i've played (scv football).

I appreciate the suggestions, however I don't see why I need to use a zergling. You guys should play the map, the shuttles are perfect. Keep in mind that unlike Basketball Street, these shuttles have a speed upgrade, which makes them faster than an un-upgraded zergling. (And there is no 2x map trick as suggested by Veta)

Anything faster for the map would make it much too difficult, it is already very difficult to make steals from players at the speed it is now. Not to mention, air units do not have a collision box the way ground units do, which is perfect for the map.

I'll think I'll stick with the shuttles, although using an EUD to detect who to pass to is perfect for my map, as passing is a tad bit too difficult. I'll look into that.

I can say from personal experience this is a lot of fun. It's a lot like Basketball if you guys liked that map. But it has an added flare to it since you have different options for shooting and each team is assigned a goalie. Overall it is a very fun game. Aside from that, you FINALLY made a thread for this...

Anyone who says the shuttle system is impractical has no clue about starcraft sports maps and their large communities.
