Downloaded soluto.
Fucked up the installation.
Ran it.
Restarted computer.
Got like 5+ bluescreens (this is normal) before I could have a successful startup
Soluto tells me it is having an error.
It gives me a link to their site.
Their site doesn't exist/is down, when it was fine a second ago.
Cry.

(The link they gave)

Congrats, you saved .5s. Also not jelly because I boot my computer every other month or so. Stand-by ftw.

An artist's depiction of an Extended Unit Death

For all Chrome users that use middle-clicking or ctrl+click to open links in new tabs, here is a must: middle button new tab

Quote from Description
if you know a page where middle (or ctrl+left) clicking a link doesn't have the desired effect of leaving the current tab unchanged and opening a new one, this extension will most likely help you.
I should note that it fixes the issue on Sen when you ctrl+click on a subforum and it loads the current tab as well as the new one.

Multi-Touch:

Most laptops use a synaptics touchpad by default. Practically all of those use a relatively new pad, which by default supports multi touch gestures. However, many laptop manufacturers do not "support" it out of the box due to patent restrictions. Apple I think.

All you need to do is install some drivers which have multi touch enabled from some other company that wasn't too cheap to add it in. You can read more about it here if you want, but it's a pretty simple process. You can even download synaptic's latest drivers that THEY release and utilize everything right there.

2 finger scroll lets you do this with supported drivers, but I prefer synaptic's scrolling method over 2 finger scroll's. What 2 finger scroll does is let you change 2 finger tap and 3 finger tap to middle/right button. I prefer 2 fingers middle click, since I use middle click to close and open tabs in browsers/windows. I use middle click more than I do right click, that's for damn sure. If I need right click, there's a real button for that anyway. If you want to you can make either button do either thing.

If you find your touchpad doesn't work as well, try all the settings in synaptics, there's one at the very end that lets you set a ridiculously small area for "activating" the touchpad, with the edges disabled.

Does anyone have a program with which I can use to open a certain "set" or "session" of windows for explorer.exe? (I'm running Windows 7 x64.)

When I'm working on certain projects, I tend to have a multitude of different folder windows open at the same time, so I would really love to have a program that saves all of these open folders so that I can quickly resume working in case of bullshit like power loss (in which case I can't use the built-in functionality available in Folder Options).

I've tried Googling, but I think I must be using the wrong terms or something. I keep getting things like saving/resuming states of applications, which is overkill and I honestly am not sure if it would be compatible with my workflow.

I was aware of this method and I have used it in the past. However, it is somewhat tedious, and it would be nice if there was an automated process that would loop through all open explorer windows, retrieve the addresses, and write it to a BAT file.

Honestly, I could probably write this program myself if I looked into the APIs Microsoft probably provides, but the reason why I haven't done so is that it's a bit overkill and that someone probably has already done this.

After various windows updates and things, the free space on SSD boot drive dropped below 6gb, which made it appear red in the (My) Computer display. I used trusty WinDirStat to find some of the culprits, and one them was the Winsxs folder inside Windows.

Googling around indicates that this folder, while large, *cannot* be deleted without potentially seriously harming your computer. It holds various backups and references to important windows files. However after you have installed Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (and I believe it might work for Vista as well - I recommend googling), it is possible to run a command that consolidates the older versions pre-service pack and frees up the space. I believe this means that you won't be able to uninstall the service pack, but if you've been running it for months without any issues I can't see any harm in that. Running the command on my computer cut about 5 gigs out of my Winsxs directory.

Update: After installing Windows 7 SP1 it is possible to reclaim a few GB’s of space by making SP1 permanent and removing older files and SP1 install files. To do this open and command prompt as Administrator (Click Start button, type cmd in search box, right click on cmd.exe and select run as Administrator) and run the following command… dism /online /cleanup-image /spsuperseded
This will run for for about 15 – 20 min (even though it says its at 100%) and when its down you should have reclaimed some disk space.

Googling the command will probably find you other references to it as well. But it worked fine for me. It didn't sit at 100% as indicated, not for very long anyway, although after I rebooted the "Updating Windows" screen stuck around on 100% for about a minute, I was starting to think it might have stalled but it resumed.

I've updated the Useful Programs Thread mirror a bit more.

Quote
10 Newest Additions:
Ghostery - More easily understandable alternative to RequestPolicy, specifically for detecting invisible trackers placed by companies on websites.
PortableApps - A website containing a variety of popular applications (Firefox/Chrome, 7-zip, Notepad++ being just a few of them) modified to run independent of the Windows registry and all other things not within the program folder itself. These "portable apps" will run off a USB flash drive and be fully functional on any computer you plug it into, making it nice for people who want to carry their favorite programs on the go.
nVidia Inspector - Powerful standalone tool for people who have an nVidia GPU.
BlueStacks - Emulator for mobile applications that run on Android. Works better on AMD CPUs than Intel.
Actual Multiple Monitors - Another multi-monitor productivity solution. The free version's functionality rivals that of UltraMon, and the full version has a lot of small features that make it feel more "natural" than UltraMon (A start button on every task bar, for instance). It is more glitchy and has a beta feel to it, however.
Don't Track Me Google - Removes Google's annoying link conversion tracking.
Speccy - Simple system information tool.
SauceNAO - A tool that aids in finding the web source of an image when given a file.
Camelegg - Newegg price tracker. Has a firefox addon.
Hi10P Playback Guide - For people who want to properly decode 10bit video.

See the mirrored thread for links.

The site you linked to requires registration. If you send me (or post) the list including description and links I can add them to the OP here on SEN which is probably more convenient for everyone.

Cartography Artisan

Team Viewer, very nice if you own multiple computers that aren't always together, can also control your computers from android phones.

"Meetings" can be used to isolate remote control to a single application to get (secure) help with something specific.
