I used a print-quality image (such that it came out to about 300DPI when you fitted the mousepad's dimensions to the image), but it looks like they print at a lower DPI than 300. I don't know the exact number, but a rough visual inspection puts it at around 100-150 DPI judging by the amount of fine detail I can see.

So going by the higher estimate of ~150 DPI, you're at approximately 1500x1200 for the minimum quality needed to not have any visual artifacts show up in the print process. I used something that was more than double that in dimensions and it printed fine, so you can err on the end of having an absurdly high resolution picture if you don't want to risk it.

Going by the lower estimate of ~100 DPI, you get numbers pretty close to ArtsCow's recommended image size of 950x800. If I assume that they downsample to that resolution before printing, then any image over 950x800 should be visually acceptable for this mousepad. I would err on the side of caution and use a larger image, though, considering that the mousepad I physically got definitely doesn't look like it's printed off an image that's only 950x800.

Most specifically, the second half. I don't see it on mine because I used a source image with a lot of highly contrasting/vibrant colors, and bold, defined edges; it's something that can theoretically affect your print if you use something that's highly textured or is an actual photograph, assuming that my guess is correct. I'll be able to confirm this firsthand if I purchase another mousepad from them (which I probably will).

Just got mine finally. Turned out nice, except for the fact that it looks like they lowered the brightness of the image by about 25%

Pick a big image (i mean 1280x800 and more), so you can crop it without losing too much quality. The only thing you must take care of is about borders (about 5mm), thats why I made mine with a more soft border (photoshop can help a lot).

And in the order I adjusted the image to 7.6 inches to avoid letters and the main character being too near the borders.
You might use 8.0 inches if the content of the photo you choose is more concentrated at the center.

I got mine, got to say it's not quite that great of quality. Higher contrast is definitely better. To elaborate: it's not incredibly pixelated, or off-color, it's just mostly black with one spot of gray and a green spot and a few specks of green.

I did this the first or second night the thread was posted and I still haven't gotten mine. If anyone else hasn't gotten their's it would be nice to know, just I know I'm not alone on this.

I just got mine yesterday, so it'll probably come soon. It's pretty pixelated, but my design was just a bunch of lines and shit, so it's not that noticeable. They did give a tint of green, though, and online, it looks like it should be blue. ;o

It may be because you're in Great Britain and it takes some time to ship overseas, get through customs, etc.

Haven't gotten mine, but haven't checked my mail either.

It's not shipped from the US so the customs thing applies to everybody, really.

This sort of airmail probably piggybacks on empty space on existing flights, so that's likely why delivery times vary wildly for everybody.

I got mine, it looks nice. No gradient in the background but that didn't surprise me.
