Day 5

Wing Zero was brought up to the execution wall.

"You're all sheep! I'm innocent! How could you think I'm corrupt?!"

His question was responded to with loud boos. The people were convinced that he was part of the mob, and they wanted him dead right away. The guards were holding him against the wall, but he was trying his hardest to get free. The young man came out to speak.

"Wing Zero, the town has voted, and they have chosen you. There is indisputable evidence linking you to the crime that has riddled our streets, and there is nothing you can say to save yourself."

Just then, Wing Zero freed one of his arms from the guard's grasp, and he sent an uppercut punch into the guard's jaw. A cracking sound was heard, and the guard quickly fell to the ground, bleeding profusely from his mouth. The other guard took out his gun and immediately shot Wing Zero. He fell to his knees, but after a few seconds, he looked up at the guard and rushed towards him. The guard was startled by Wing Zero's lack of injury, but he remained focused as Wing Zero ran at him. Wing Zero dove at the guard, but the guard stepped to the side, grabbed Wing Zero by the arm, and flung him into the wall. Wing Zero hit the wall hard and began bleeding from his mouth and forehead. He tried to get up, but the pain in his head forced him to stay down. The large guard, angry by his defiance, picked him up, and threw him onto the ground near the crowd. He began rolling down a small hill, but was stopped by numerous barrels sitting on the side of a large tanker truck.

As Wing Zero pushed himself up off the ground, the guard shot his gun again, but missed just barely. Instead, he shot the barrel, which let out a small stream of oil. When Wing Zero got to his feet, he tried to take a step forward, but he slipped on the oil and fell back onto the ground, where a small puddle had formed. Aristocrat, the man known for mysteriously coming back from the dead, walked up to Wing Zero and knelt beside him. He took out a lighter.

"Need a light?"

Aristocrat dropped the lighter into the puddle, and Wing Zero immediately caught on fire. His screams were deafening, but the people just watched as he burned to death. Aristocrat got up and walked back to crowd, nonchalantly. As the people watched him walk towards them, the fire made its way to the barrels, which blew up, causing the entire truck beside them to catch on fire as well. The large truck exploded, letting out a gigantic burst of flames. A photograph taken by a teenager showcased the disaster.

The fire engulfed everything around it, and Wing Zero was completely incinerated.

I should totally have made a bet with Aristocrat on how that would turn out.

Raitaki has left the party!

EDIT: Aaaand it's time for our special program, Small Talk With The Top Guy!

Yo Top Guy Aristocrat, here's yo host Raitaki, nice to meetcha and it's an honor to get this special interview really. Now, let's cut to the chase shall we? What, exactly, was going on your mind to make you think that somehow my Night 3 results said that someone visited Wing Zero and HE WAS THE SABOTEUR, even though I said it said he was VISITED BY THE SABOTEUR and the OP didn't state anywhere, at any level of ambiguity, that Detective powers reveal the role of the target? And why the hell did you just completely ignored me and went all like "oh u misred or begailar shenaniganz or summat :3 :3" when I pointed this out? And how are you going to take responsibility for your actions?

Go on, tell the audience.

Night 5

This night was not so quiet. Nobody had died, but there were a few running around sneakily, working hard for their own agenda.

A man was sleeping a run-down home. There were no lights, and the old wooden walls and doors offered little security. Another man walked slowly and quietly through the decrepit house, and when reached the man's bed, he went to work. He had finished what he set out to do in just a few minutes, but he decided to stick around for a while longer.

A crazed man was working hard in an abandoned building. His first "creation" had served him well, but it was time to move on. Just as his second creation seemed to work, everything quickly failed. The man was disappointed, and left everything behind as he went back home.

Day 6 has begun. Day 6 will end on Sunday, September 9th, 10:00 PM EDT.

The sun was rising slowly. As the light shined through the old windows of the worn-down house, a man awoke in immense pain. As he tried to sit up, he felt a sharp pain that almost paralyzed his entire body.

"Don't try to get up. It won't go well for you."

A man was standing at the end of the bed with a large grin on his face. The man in the bed yelled out at him.

"Who the hell are you?! What did you do to me?!"

"Oh, don't worry. What I'm about to do to you won't be nearly as painful as what you've done to the people of this city."

"What are you talking about? I haven't wronged anybody."

"Don't act stupid. I found your little 'book.' How convenient that listed the operations of your little gang in this thing."

The man standing up pulled held up a small, brown book.

"lil-Inferno, Sacrieur, TiKels... Thank you for listing everyone who was part of this murderous scheme. It'll really make the cops' lives easier."

The man in the bed let out a laugh.

"Ha! The cops? You're going to trust them? You don't realize how deep in this city we are, do you? Nobody can protect you. You may kill me, but we'll be back. We're never going to truly leave. We'll be back, alright, and we'll take this city down."

The man standing up pulled a device out of his pocket.

"I look forward to it."

He pressed a button, and the man in the bed began shaking uncontrollably. After a few seconds, Raitaki was dead.

BiOAtk entered City Hall. He found the young man who had been in charge of the lynches and showed him the book. The young man thanked him greatly, and called for an immediate press conference.

Almost everyone in the city had gathered outside of City Hall to hear what the young man had to say. The man stepped up to the podium, which a large smile on his face.

"Citizens of this fine city, I am proud to announce that the evil that had infected this city is finally gone!"

The people cheered loudly. Many rejoiced in the arms of their loved ones, letting out tears of joy and relief.

"Thanks to a normal man, just like yourselves, my people and I are now in possession of documents detailing every one of the mobsters and their plans. According to this book that I have, they are all dead!

The road to victory was a terrible and heartbreaking one. We lost many good people, and willingly sacrificed others in our path to destroy the groups that had sought to bring this city down. I regret losing those that were caught in the crossfire, but I could not be any happier to know that this terrible time in our city is finally over!"

The people continued to cheer. What had once been empty and quiet streets were now packed and loud places of celebration. People who had been holed up in their homes for weeks finally came out to celebrate. The town could return to normal, knowing that, finally, the evil had passed, and good had prevailed.

THE TOWN HAS WON!

Welp that's that. I'm a bit disappointed, but things didn't go according to plan (the original plan).

Naturally Az and Ari /had/ to be taken out if the mafia had any chance whatsoever. For some reason the mafia revealed themselves to get me elected, despite Bio having already voted for me. Still, I formulated the best plan I could give them the best chance; but, Ari and Az's insight had already done too much damage.

I knew you were Mafia based on your own actions. Raitaki was the only Mafia member that didn't give himself away.

Quote from Sacrieur

Yeah, this is what I don't get. Them voting for you not only incriminated them, but you as well. The way you generated votes so quickly was clearly unnatural.

That being said, I don't think Mafia (or Bell Ringers) should have been able to end the Mayor election early. It's a crucial part of the game, and since it was only going to happen once, it should have been (semi) diplomatic. Having an ability that could affect the outcome wasn't necessarily terrible, but having one that could simply end the vote at the Mafia's discretion with no minimum vote requirement sort of defeats the purpose of having a Mayor, since it's almost certainly going to a Mafia. It might not have been as bad if there had been a reelection (or if Bell Ringers had been informed that they could affect the Mayor election, with a minimum vote requirement in place).

I also think Saboteur was nerfed too harshly from its original power. The reason the ability was accumulative before was so the Saboteur could potentially overturn a lynch on his own, if he lived long enough. In reality, I think the original Saboteur needed a buff (like being able to enter more commands to trigger votes on different players). In this one, a Saboteur by himself has no chance of survival, because he only ever has an extra voting power of one; it basically made him a less powerful Elder role (since he has to name his extra vote the night before).

If the original Saboteur had been used in this one, I think Bio would have died before he constrained Raitaki, and the rest of the game would have played out much differently.

However, these are just balance issues which are best seen in hindsight, nothing that can't be accounted for in the future. I would say the game setup and the hosting itself were excellent, and either side could have potentially won with equally skilled players.

Edit:

Quote from name:I Iz LEET
Switching his vote from BiOAtk to TiKels seemed like an almost traitorous thing to do. He could have at least waited for others to switch their votes, but instead, he was the first one to do so. It seemed as if he was almost trying to save himself rather than work to eliminate his enemies.

I have to disagree with this. TiKels was going to die no matter what, the active members of the Town had decided as much already. There's no way he could have been saved. Raitaki's ability to recognize this and lead the bandwagon rather than follow it was what secured him a position as a trusted member of the Town. I'm certain he would have died sooner had he waited until other people had changed their votes.

We live in a society.

Some thoughts of a host from long ago. As a note, "IMO" is implied along with all of this because it is not efficient to type it so many times:

- I was wondering halfway through if Townsperson was not listed as a role for a reason; it was. Interesting choice to give everyone a role, though I wouldn't do that myself. With that many detectives and two hitmen, the mafia had the odds stacked against them from the start due to the role setup. (assuming more activity on the part of all those detectives, that is.)
- The Analyst/Detective combo was a nice idea.
- Rogue Engineer was an interesting role.
- IMO, the Cult was a bad concept. Maybe if the Cult Leader got to make a night hit once the cult reached a certain size or something, but the size of the cult really does nothing but create a third pointless faction. Also, the cult assumes coopoeration on behalf of the players recruited into it. What stops the cult from turning on the leader and deciding that the cult is stupid and the town should win? Even if the leader's identity is kept secret, once the Cult is large enough, process of elimination identifies the mafia and the leader with greater and greater probability. That makes the cult more of an asset to the town than a third faction if anything.
- Fake Identity is a good idea for a mafia power.
- Giving Beguiler six different powers is kind of excessive.
- Players were posting role PMs in the thread in flagrant disregard of the rules. Maybe you're nicer than me, but I would've struck down some lightning bolts just for that.
- (Insert previous comments about sudden triple lynches near the end of the day.)
- If the mafia are segregated into their own roles, something should be done to ensure they still have killing power. For example, if the mafia has no night hits, then the remaining mafia members have a night hit to share among the remaining mafia.

Ari thought I had planned it all from the beginning. But I mean c'mon, it's such an obvious move that I really don't know what they were thinking. I'm glad Rai didn't incriminate himself. And his performance in previous mafia made me feel like he could handle himself alone.

It leads me to agree with the sentiment that saboteur is just too weak, and beguiler too powerful. Mafia should have more balanced powers between all of the members, that way losing a beguiler doesn't spell disaster for you. And yeah, it did feel like the town was a bit stacked with two detectives, but since I didn't opt for the subterfuge style of play, it wasn't a factor until later.
