Are you running 32 bit or 64?

tits

Sep 3 2007, 8:58 pm Sael Post #6

Unfortunately only 32-bit, but it was a free upgrade to XP MCE 2005 that I got for about $80 in December. I'm thinking about buying Ultimate 64-bit soon because my school has a really great deal to get it for like 20% of the price that it costs retail.

Every new game is extremely stable in Vista. The older the game is, the more trouble I seem to have with it. However, SimCity3000 seems to run just fine in Vista, and that's very old. However, StarCraft seems to be very buggy. The left side of the screen flickers, and I'm really unable to play the game that way.

I will say one thing.

85Hz.

Compare that to your response time.

Also, I find that smaller monitors are more effective for gaming, as you can easily see everything, status icons, heath bars, ammo, without having to move your eyes. At smaller sizes, like 17 or 19", 1280x1024 is really enough.

Although if you prefer higher resolution/screen size, more power to you, I suppose.

At a certain point, a monitor's refresh rate or response time is really undistinguishable. LCDs have definitely reached that point, and their response time really doesn't cause any problems. Yes, CRTs are definately better for stuff like photo editting, since they display purer colors. Yes, they contrast better, definitely have better blacks... but they're expensive, hard to find, power consuming, unasthetically(sp) pleasing, and LCDs display better color brightness. For the average user, and even now gamer, LCDs have evolved to a point where they can reach and satisfy most anybody's needs.
