I'd want to strike a midpoint between v4.1 SEN and Maplantis. Hopefully with this merge, SEN can assimilate into itself the best aspects of Maplantis.
That means we won't have all those minerals, karma, gas and reputation? :P

Can anyone hax to change Yoshi's user ID to 1337? or 42? or 1 or 2 and 3? You know... just to pay tribute.

From an SQL standpoint, 1337 should be easy since it isn't assigned yet.

LOL, when did you want anything to do with the pro-StarCraft production, less emphasis on the community, stance of Maplantis?

Since you could implement it at SEN without destroying Null. I'm hoping that a merging of the ideologies will bolster the Starcraft production aspect while maintaining the community focus. Like the days of EUD discovery. You seem to think I care nothing for Starcraft.

We live in a society.

It appears that we've reached some understanding. I don't want to "destroy" Null, nor do I wish it to be the reason people come to the site. I want SEN to cater to people who make maps and play StarCraft, rather than someone who has yet to install StarCraft on their "new computer" that they got a year ago. I'd rather see one good tutorial or map review written than 500 posts in a Null game thread. But, if you map and/or play, there's no reason you can't have fun and be silly sometimes.

Yeah for real. I havent seen any maps made by all the Null spammers or anyone who currently has over 100 posts. Not even an effort in posting in productions that they are making any maps.

Oh, I agree, but while I think that the mapping aspect should be encouraged as the main focus of the site, I don't agree with some of the ideas tossed around that would harshly penalize in some way members who exist largely in the Other sections. Retired mappers who have moved on but still like the community deserve a place too, as do people like Kame. I mean, who wants to ban Kame? Honestly :P

Hopefully what develops henceforth can do that (when I said ideas tossed around, I really was just talking about things I've heard in passing). Can we all come to agreement and end some of the sniping and bitter remarks that all of us (including me) have been guilty of lately?

Apart we are weak, together we are stronger.
Yet more vulnerable. I'd choose diversity both sides offer - Maplantis for pure mapping, SEN for chatting and a bit of mapping. I'm dissapointed that you let such minor (in my opinion) problems at Maplantis get you down. You created it, you have all the rights to shut it down, but I hope you'll reconsider - you are dissapointing those who loved the simplicity and elegance of Maplantis (something SEN always lacked).
They weren't really minor problems. I talked about it in a topic, a lot of people liked maplantis but a lot of people weren't offering me good solutions until IP came along. I'll be completely straight with you, its a selfish action on my part. The issues are not with maplantis, the issues is with my personal time (like I want to code latova and go out a bit more, especially for the winter and school semester coming up because I hate being indoors all the time). I was promised commitment from the cofounders at Maplantis and I did not get that, and pretty much for 5 months I was making up for their lack of commitment. I paid more and coded more than I should have and I snapped. No good solutions were suggested so this is what I did. I did it more for myself, since I want to help run a map making community. I love running map making communities.

Quote from Killer_Kow
On the contrary, Will, the community will never be what it once was. Many of our mature members have left, and it seems apparent that many new, less mature members are joining. It seems that the more I look at SEN's boards, the less it seems like home.

Here's hoping this can be rectified.
I know it will never be what it was. I'll try to bring some of it back but I know what I can and can't do.

My user ID does not represent my contributions to the community.

Please don't bring the screenshot policy from the Maplåntis "In Production" forums here...it's nice (as someone who is opposed to the use of screenshots except as purely voluntary visual aids that should never substitute for the generous use of text) to have somewhere that I can post maps in production.

Now, of course, I just have to start producing something...

Also, if you import the Maplåntis database system, please get rid of the naming restrictions, or at least loosen them considerably. I would like to be able to call my maps by their actual names (1S3S3F7E, Broodlingz! [the ! is part of the name], etc.) again...
The name you suggested would actually work (except for the comma but its a simple change). As for the screenshot requirement, I thought it was a great idea. Maps in production is ment for maps you are currently making, apposed to it being an idea you are intending to make.

Quote from Protogod
My heart swelled when I learned that Maplantis and OSMap got pwned.
Maplantis is not gone, you know, I've worked thousands of hours on it and if seeing my work go down makes your heart swell than maybe you need to get out more. I'm not exactly what I or Maplantis did to you anyway.

w00t @ this topic. Maplantis was a great productive site. Let's hope SEN will be just as ^^

I've been with SEN and such for well over three years, and I still have yet to make a map. I know most of the aspects and concepts of map making, it's just I never get around to finishing a map.

Quote
If you leave maplantis after SEN gets their database, what would happen to (U)?
(U) likes to go wherever everyone else is. They pretty much used Maplantis as their temporary nest. They'll definitely be coming back in no time.

Yay! That stuff is worth taking the time to reformat and move. At least some of the good maps lost from v4.1 are on Maplantis.

Personally, all content on maplantis is rich and worth moving. But I'm trying to be realistic here.

Moving over the ideas/map production/map help topics and such would be a great idea, wouldn't you think? It'd give SEN a little start-up boost..if it even needs it.

For the record, I favor OSMap as a concept (open source mapping), but definitely not the program. Maps entered into the movement should be entered by their authors.
When I first heard of osmap, I just didn't like it because it made maps unprotected for people to steal. But I now know that it isn't made for that, it is made to have maps open for source and learning and allowing other mappers to advance. If it was MADE for map stealing, then yes I would hate it. But it wasn't MADE for map stealing, it was MADE for learning.

Let these words be rememberd: Just because it can do something bad, doesn't mean it is bad.

That can be done as well I suppose, depending on the parsing system SEN uses. IP can probably jerryrig something if he wanted to do this, but its his call on all these things.

Well, I don't know about some of the topics.. nostalgic value of Toa making a fool of himself, perhaps :P

The wiki and maps are probably the most valuable parts though. I mean, you'll still have all the scripts and stuff, right?

I think it's a question of plausibility.. you would have to reformat and restructure the tables for a merge, and that's a lot of tedious and error-prone SQL.

I was wrong. :'(-
Same lol.
I kinda liked maplantis more, reasons? I'm tired of green lol.
But whatever, all the maps are gonna transport over as well as the topics(I hope) so there houldn't really be a problem.
And not to be rude but this makes since yoshi, cause many people came to maplantis simply because... SEN was mia. And maplantis was defenitely a really good site, but every now and again you heard someone saying "Gosh I miss SEN". Questions is will I be the only one saying, "God I miss that blue maplantis =("

err Tdnfthe1 or w/e maybe i'll change the name

Thats not actually how it works DTBK (restructuring the tables under latova is the easy part, the more difficult one is matching peoples topics from their user ids at maplantis to the ones here). Even less so because Latova kicks ass and stores an unparsed version of every post. All IP would really have to do is run every single unparsed post through the SEN v5 parser and the posts will be as if they were made on here. Errors in SQL would have nothing to do with any of this.

That's nothing a skin changing system couldn't fix, although green IS the primary color of Staredit.
