Hello to all!

I came to play Starcraft when it was already an old game. But I loved the campaign and the story behind it. Since I suffer from world builder disease, I liked the idea of creating my own campaign. But I got stuck somehow then I had too mich stress in work and it died down. Now I have started to get back to it (SC1 Brood War) and things work out quiet nicely although the limitations of the editor are rather frustrating sometimes. So I hope I can get some assistance with my project here. Currently I am using scmdraft 2 08 but a 2007 version. I think I have to update - yesterday I lost a map due to some string errors. No idea why that happened, I have used only 7.7 % of strings. Maybe I will try even some modding.

What else is to say about me? - I am from Germany (so bear with me if my English is not the best), I like roleplaying games and I am quiet old (41).

Kind regards,
DG

PS: I tried also to get an account at campaign creations, but I never recieved the activation email (although it registered my email adress properly - trying to open another account with that email adress failed, because "it was already in use"). I used the contact formula of the site to reach the admins, but never recieved a reply - seems they do not want me to be there. So I am glad I found this site! :)

Your English is fine, certainly better than some people who have it as their first language. There wasn't anything peculiar about your writing.

Also, this is the latest version of SCMDraft, the link's at the top of the thread: http://www.staredit.net/topic/8307/

Thanks for the kind welcoming and the link to the current version of scmdraft. I downloaded it right away and I will check it out now!

Kind regards,
DG

Guten tag, Der Greif :D

Welcome to SEN. If you want I can ask the campaign creations people to sort out your account issue.

Yeah, our snobs are so much better...

It's nice to see a new mapmaker coming in. We have a lot of experienced mappers who are almost desperate to help with any mapping questions you have (seriously, post at the right time and all hell breaks loose).

ScmDraft has an automatic backup database, so you can recover an old version of your map if you want (under Advanced -> Open Backup Database).

Welcome to SEN.

I didn't know this community had any snobs.

Hey,

thanks to all the nice and helpful answers! :)

@Jack[RCDF: That would be nice. Although I think I have all the information I need here, it might be interesting to see a second community and what they are up to.

@Roy: Oh, that is good to know, that scmdraft has that implemented. I backed my files up by myself, so I could start over from an (although much) earlier version and come even further today. In the end it was not such a big deal. It seems indeed, this is a very helpful community. No snobs seen here so far. :)

My second mission is almost ready for an alpha test. But I want to get the first mission first. That is about 70 % finished. But I have to play test both first by myself. Either way I think I will open a thread in the map production section in the next days.

Kind regards,
DG

The last 10% of work on any creative project like this takes 90% of the effort.

This is really a hearty welcome! :) Never expected that. I thought that probably most people would have walked over to SC2 and there would be not much interest in sc1 campaigns anymore.

I sincerely hope I get the last 10 % done although it is true, it will require some effort to polish the terrain and eerything. I just learned about blends and extended terrain. Sadly it seems that different terrains cannot be mixed. I think in the next days I will have some questions, but meanwhile I will try to educate myself via your great articles on this forum.

Kind regards,
DG

I don't know why Lavarinth would not have responded to your e-mail, but considering he's been dealing with a lot of IRL stuff, I wouldn't be surprised if it slipped through the cracks. I assume your name is the same as the one on CC? We have account activation on due to the nonstop flood of spambots we regularly get. I could contact him about it, but seeing as I'm a snob...

Ah, that would be nice. Although after I found this site it is not that pressing, since I think I will find everything here, too. If Lavarinth has RL stress no need to bother him with such a minor nuisance. Still when he is back being active, I would like to join your community, too.

Can it be that there is a friedly (or not so friendly rivalry) between these two sites?

Also I never said, you were a snob. I have not known you until now.

@Sand Warith: Greeting to you, too. Yeah, human was a good guess, it is true.

Kind regards,
G.

There is no rivalry. People are just being jelly. (The snob comment was in jest with the other guys). I realize that may not translate well. SEN is not really a campaign site, it's more about UMS mapping, but you can probably find most of what you'd want to know in regards to actual mapping here. Just that very few people can help you with dialogue, writing and such. I might be able to fill their shoes if I have time.

Anyways, to answer your curiousity about sc2 - SC2 never really got off the ground with custom content. There's maybe 3 or so campaigns that I know of being (seriously) worked on, including my own. Sc1 is much more active in pretty much every front, as is Diablo 2. But custom content as a whole is nearly dead, at least with Blizzard games.

In either case I let Lav know about your situation but didn't get a response. I would just activate your account myself if it was in my power.

Ah, so just a friemdly banter then! :)

And thanks for notifying the CC people about the account creation problem and your offer to helpme out with writing. It is greatly appreciated!

Just to let you know, you don't need to end every post with a "Kind regards" message; we're much more informal than that. (There's also something in the SEN rules against ending all your posts with the same thing.)

ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

Why the fuck is that against the rules? You could argue that having a signature is like posting the same thing over and over again; I don't want to see that random shit in every post. :disgust:
