Hey guys, I've decided to get good at melee, as it's a part of SC I've neglected until now. I'm currently a D on iccup and will soon drop to D- if I'm as bad as I think I am, which I am. What I'd like is someone of a similar skill level who's trying to get good as well, to practice regularly with. Is anyone here interested in practicing with me?

I'll do it! You'll win a lot of the times though. Though time zones might be a problem...

Had my first practice session with ganthrithor, went pretty well. I managed to win a couple of games! I also established that I suck :3

Tip: Nobody but people on SEN call 1v1 melee. They all call it 1v1

Not gonna lie, you're pretty bad. I'll give you some tips now. I should be on iccup in...18-19 hours from now. Oh, have you got skype? I generally use that to coordinate for practicing. I'm sB.Birdie on iCCup.

Tip 1: Don't screen scroll. Use camera hotkeys and the minimap. You should almost never screen scroll, as it is inefficient and slow. Camera hotkeys are F2, F3, and F4. By default they all go to your start location; you can reassign them by hitting Shift+F2/3/4 whichever number it is.

Tip 2: Build a probe before you send your workers to mine. Also as far as I know it is quicker to select your workers to split them on the main screen rather than using the wireframes.

Tip 3: Don't click buttons. Ever. From now on you will only use the keyboard hotkeys to build units, set rally points, attack move, patrol, and build buildings. If you don't remember what hotkey something is, hover over it with your mouse to check but DON'T click it, use the keyboard hotkey to build memory.

Tip 4: Choose one build from the Teamliquid.net wiki, with one race, and practice it over and over on one map till you can pull it off fairly well. It's much quicker and will build better awareness than if you use different races on different maps with different builds. I've played over 100 matches using nothing but overpool into speedlings, and only recently added another build to my options.

Lots of other things I could say about floating minerals, precise timings etc. but those will come later when your mechanics are a bit better.

Works out pretty well for me so far, though I'm just testing it to improve muscle memory and I'm getting better at using hotkeys for units (damn P and L keys are so far away from the left side of the keyboard...). I keep hotkeying the camera but never actually using them after the initial 'ooh boy a new hotkey' time period. Instead I'm always clicking on the minimap. With time, I suppose.

I'll post a replay or something if I get a good matchup using this build.

Pr0nogo vs. Jack, at Fighting Spirit. PvZ. I originally start out with the three gate rush and pull back for a more tech-based, gas-based build. I also expand late and I guess Jack says he played horribly but we both did so that's okay.
