Well yes, except it seems to make an assumption that all scientists are doing it for science and not for some alternative agenda which isn't true. There are scientsits out there pumping out fear to get funding just as much as the 'mediums' that contact the dead.

Yes, and when they publish results into the peer review process they get shot down and exposed for fraud, like this guy.

If your results cannot be reproduced then they are not to be taken with any credibility.

The person that started the autism/vaccine scare was actually an offhand comment by an actress, and members of the scientific community latched on because it was a popular topic at the time to get money. I'm sure some of them actually wanted to test the validity of it, but I'm sure others saw it as a major cash cow.

I'm thinking more like, say, nuclear research under the pretense of the cold war. Scientists couldn't (and can't now, for that matter, except for some medical grade materials, but even that can make homeland security come after you) get their hands on the material unless they made up flimsy reasons - usually inducing scare tactics - to get funding and supplies otherwise inaccessible. Another example really is germ warfare/bio-warfare in ww2.

I've begun my journey into spirituality a year ago, albeit the foundation was being set up for longer than that. It is definitely shaping my life. The important thing is not to go with any movement such as religions, organisations, spiritual teachers, etc; you must obtain information from all those sources but not get attached to any particular one. Read a lot, practice simple things yourself, talk to people about the subject. I personally meditate and do Systema (a russian martial art that is the most complete system that treats all aspects of a human being) and hope to expandmy practices a little bit.

I know this place has many members people who have life figured out and praise science with even more zeal than some religious fanatics praise religion, and fair play - a rigorous mind is vital for any kind of development. Non the less, it would be very interesting to discuss topics of spirituality in one way or another (PM preferable) with those who are interested.

Let me interject on this idea of Global Warming

There are two issues regarding Global Warming. First, global warming is happening. Scientific evidences prove just that; simple examples include ice caps getting smaller, sea levels rising, temperatures rising, fluctuating weather conditions, etc etc. Anyone competent in the field of or similar to environmental sciences will not deny such facts.

However,

The bigger, or controversial, issue is whether global warming is a natural process or a man made phenomena. Did our industrial/technological boom and C02 emissions contribute to this warming of the earth or is this just a cyclical natural process of life? If it's a natural process, then I think the movie "The Day After Tomorrow" offers a decently realistic scenario of what may happen next. If it is a man made process... well... I'll let those hippie environmentalists and corrupt politicians battle it out and enjoy the fireworks.

Yeah, who cares about the future of industrialised society (and all the benefits it brought), lets just "enjoy the fireworks".

That debate has been over for over a decade. There is no scientific debate. We're causing it, end of story. And if we don't stop it soon, we're really going to pay a heavy price.

We're already going to pay a heavy price. And there is no way anyone is going to voluntarily stop anything until it is far too late.

Lol during the 70's or 80's (after baby boom era) this was something called the global cooling scare in which the co2 consumption rose heavily with post war production and this actually decreased temperatures...

Are we causing it because a scientist said so, because there's money in it for them? And unfortunately any evidence I'd present on heating and cooling being natural would be just as suspect to the money scheme.

Agree'd but any proof we do present has to be tremendous to make any difference.

You think this is a conspiracy? Source, or is this just speculation?

I wouldn't really call it a conspiracy, given how loaded it is. Do I suspect people are hamming up some things over others to make a profit, yes. On both sides. And that isn't to say that people who are doing it for the good of us all don't exist. That much is certain. The problem with statistics is that they are incredibly easy to skew and easily can spread misinformation just by looking legitimate. Not to mention that there could be a major correlation here. It's hard to say who has what agenda and what their price is.

I'm kind of surprised you've never heard of this.

Quote from Sacrieur

I've seen his channel, and he has some good videos. I think you're missing the point though.

As an example, I know in some of his videos he talks about the fact there are highly qualified climate researchers who have alternate theories about the apparent increases in temperatures which are totally unrelated to carbon gasses. I wouldn't be surprised if an equal percentage of them have gains to be made by trying to advocate alternate reasoning.

There are also environmental concerns a lot more definite and immediate than global warming. It's just pop science, using fear mongering through the media to profit. It doesn't matter if there is some legitimate scientific data at the heart of it all, the fact is that global warming is a massive cash machine and is going to be made to look as intimidating as possible. Someone would have to be purposely blinding themselves and choosing to be ignorant to what's going on to not quickly see the topic has been incredibly sensationalized.

Also, there are people who are good at explaining it right in this thread.
