Who are your favorite/least favorite republican candidates for presidency? Who do you think is going to win the nomination?

Michelle Bachmann dropped out of the race after losing heavilty in Iowa. Can Rick Perry make a comeback? Will Rick Santorum overtake Mitt Romney? Does Ron Paul still have a chance? Discuss!

Win by luck, lose by skill.

RON PAUL!

As a Texan, I have always been afraid of the day Rick Perry would declare his presidency - many of us unfortunately saw it coming long ago. Sure I loved what Rick has done with our great state but that's as far as he can (or should) go. Not to mention that I, a University of Texas alumni, would be ashamed of having a Texas A&M graduate with a 2.3 GPA run our country (see at least Bush can say he struggled at an Ivy league but A&M? C'mon).

Michelle Bachman, don't think I need to explain this one. She gets my least favorite vote.

I was curious about Trump (hence making a topic about it a while ago) but he dropped out before I could do any further research.

Gingrich and Cain, I felt like were attacked/criticized unfavorably - so many of their critics (particularly Gingrich's) twisted facts and made it sound like they were bad guys. I never really got into their policies since they either dropped past the point of significance or out completely due to his affairs (which I thought was stupid, I mean look at Clinton he got a BJ from his secretary and survived impeachment back when people cared a little more about family values).

Never paid any attention to Huntsman (or whatever his name was).

Like many, I was surprised by Santorum's rise so I never paid any attention to him. But from first glance, he seems like a stereotypical Republican which will draw all the social conservative votes that were split among Bachman, Perry, etc.

Now Romney and Paul on the other hand, are the two republican candidates with very educated backgrounds (which the other republican candidates lacked). Back in 2008 I wanted Romney over McCain since it seemed like McCain focused too much on parrying accusations of him being Bush 2.0. What I like about these two candidates is that unlike the others, these two (Paul especially) are not afraid to express what they truly believe in and not always trying to appease what the evangelicals/conservatives want to hear (which was the downfall of Perry).
Romney to me has shown that he's an economic genius, which IMO is the most important issue for this presidency.

I like Paul, I watched his interview with Jay Leno today on youtube and it really seems like this guy knows his stuff. I wish the evangelicals/conservatives would give this guy a chance because if they truly want strong family values, it starts with making a strong economy, which will lead to stronger/happier working moms and dads. Unfortunately these polls show that the nation is not going to give this guy a chance. It's unfortunate that the Republican voters seem to favor the lesser educated candidates.

Who is my favorite republican candidate? I'm good with either Romney or Paul, though I would probably lean towards Paul a bit.
Who do I think will win? Romney
Who has a better chance against Obama? Though the nation says Romney, I would more want to see Obama and Paul square off in a debate.

Who would I vote for in the 2012 Presidential elections? Too early to say.

Still Napping

Ron Paul. He's the most reasonable of the bunch. Actually, I'd rather he not be associated with republicans. Modern politics has taught me that most republicans are, by and by, completely fucking retarded.

Personally, I'm waiting for Chris Christie to give a definitive yes or no on whether he's entering the race.

In terms of the spotlight, yes, but really, who hasn't at this point?

Sadly, no. Even if he got the majority of the supporters, the Republican delegates would never actually nominate him because of his extreme libertarian views.

I completely agree with this statement, but I'd like to make one minor addition. "Modern politics has taught me that most republicans and most democrats are, by and by, completely fucking retarded."

That said, I don't know why anyone likes gingrich, isn't he completely insane or something? Plus he's fat, I'm never going to vote for a fat guy for president. I like Mitt Romney because he closed tax loopholes during his time in Massachusetts.

Contrary to what some people, particularly the left, say, no candidate, regardless of party, is completely fucking retarded. They have no choice but to say only what their supporters want them to say. So when the republican candidates have to deal with supporters like this woman, it's a lose-lose situation.

But then when they're in office, they do have the choice of whether or not to represent the needs of the people or the wants of the corporations/lobbyists. Really, we shouldn't be concerned so much about who's on the left or the right; we should be concerned about who is looking after our interests and who is just there to do the bidding of corporations for the sake of being reelected (which is another reason I like Ron Paul: he doesn't change his views simply because it's convenient, and he seems like the least likely candidate to turn his back on those views).

Also Ron Paul is the only one among them opposing SOPA, I believe.

Well, I think Sax and I were talking about people in general, but I'd say you're right I suppose, the candidates on either side are only mildly fucking retarded.

He's actually a really intelligent guy. He's a historian who actually knows his shit really well. However, he can be all over the place with the things he supports, and that's why negative ads are so effective against him. He's twice-divorced, he made tons of money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, he's made money off of the ethanol industry, and other stuff. Peggy Noon wrote a great article on why he's such a mixed bag here.

Will write more later, gotta go now.

An artist's depiction of an Extended Unit Death

I changed my mind on my least favorite candidate; it's the other Rick.

Quote from Rick Santorum
I would be saying to the Iranians, you either open those facilities, begin to dismantle them and make them available to inspectors or we will degrade those facilities though air strikes. And make it very public that we are doing that. Iran would not get a nuclear weapon under my watch.
Quote from Rick Santorum
Like any freedom, there has to be regulation.
Quote from Rick Santorum
Priests, like all of us, are affected by culture. When the culture is sick, every element in it becomes infected. While it is no excuse for this scandal, it is no surprise that Boston, a seat of academic, political, and cultural liberalism in America, lies at the center of the storm.
Quote from Rick Santorum
If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual [gay] sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery. You have the right to anything. Does that undermine the fabric of our society? I would argue yes, it does. ... That's not to pick on homosexuality. It's not, you know, man on child, man on dog, or whatever the case may be. It is one thing. And when you destroy that you have a dramatic impact on the quality...
Quote from Rick Santorum
In far too many families with young children, both parents are working, when, if they really took an honest look at the budget, they might find they don't both need to. ... What happened in America so that mothers and fathers who leave their children in the care of someone else — or worse yet, home alone after school between three and six in the afternoon — find themselves more affirmed by society? Here, we can thank the influence of radical feminism.
Quote from Rick Santorum
I find it almost remarkable for a black man to say ‘now we are going to decide who are people and who are not people.’
Quote from Rick Santorum
I believe the earth gets warmer, and I also believe the earth gets cooler, and I think history points out that it does that and that the idea that man through the production of CO2, which is a trace gas in the atmosphere and the man-made part of that trace gas is itself a trace gas, is somehow responsible for climate change is, I think, just patently absurd when you consider all of the other factors, El Niño, La Niña, sunspots, you know, moisture in the air.
Quote from Rick Santorum
If hunger is a problem in America, then why do we have an obesity problem?
Quote from Rick Santorum
There are no Palestinians. All the people who live in the West Bank are Israelis. There are no Palestinians. This is Israeli land.
Quote from Rick Santorum
The idea is that the state doesn’t have rights to limit individuals’ wants and passions. I disagree with that. I think we absolutely have rights because there are consequences to letting people live out whatever wants or passions they desire.
Quote from Rick Santorum
I don’t want to go to a trade war, I want to beat China. I want to go to war with China and make America the most attractive place in the world to do business.

Ron Paul. One of the few politicians I've ever seen who says what he thinks without trying to cater to a particular audience, and I generally agree with him on a lot of issue too.

Chris Christie can't run. The primaries have already started. It's too late for him. There's no reason Rick Perry can't make a comeback. He might not, but there isn't really a reason that he fell in the polls aside from the fact that he bombed the debates. Your statement on Santorum is kind of dumb. Santorum tied Romney in terms of real votes, those things that they're trying to get. Ron Paul's libertarianism isn't what makes him unelectable. It's his isolationist foreign policy that doesn't fit in with the Republican Party. His extreme libertarianism is precisely what makes him so popular.

Adultery is actually illegal in many states. It just isn't enforced.

Moderates hold the plurality in America. Far left/far right candidates can't win the middle voters as easily as a moderate from either party. I wouldn't say that moderates are any more honest than radicals (though it sometimes looks that way because of radical rhetoric).
