Let me put my predicament in a metaphor. This story involves four people:
Me -
Sam the Second - longtime friend
Terrance the Third - regular friend
Freddy the Fourth - acquaintance

We are foreign exchange students, so this is the last chance for me, Sam, and Freddy to visit an amusement park. Terrance will have more opportunities to visit theme parks before he returns to Kazakhstan.

Me and two friends, Sam the Second and Terrance the Third, have planned to go to Disneyworld. We have planned how long to stay, made hotel reservations, bought tickets, etc. All our plans are made for three people, and we can't change them. However, we can cancel without losing any money.

Suddenly, my other friend Freddy the Fourth asks if he can come with me, Sam, and Terrance to Disneyworld. I tell him, "We'd like to take you, but we can only bring three people to Disneyworld." (all the hotels are booked, or something). I tell my other two friends, "Freddy wants to come, but we can only take three people total. One of us four is not going to go to Disneyworld. (The tickets are transferable, and whoever goes can just pay the person who didn't go for their ticket.)

Freddy suggests going to Six Flags instead, but the only amusement park I want to visit is Disneyworld (it is the last theme park I may ever visit, and I've never been there).

I will not benefit in any way (except for fun) from going to Disneyworld (in fact, I will have to spend more hours planning). However, I still want to go.
Sam the Second is in the same situation as me.
Terrance the Third is in the same situation as me, except he will benefit from visiting Disneyworld.
Freddy the Fourth is in the same situation as me and Sam.

How do we determine who goes to Disneyworld?

I have thought about several options:
Roll a four-sided die.
Have a competition, and last place doesn't go.
Have the original three go to Disneyworld. Freddy is more
My three friends go to Disneyworld, and I stay home (I won't be depressed if this happens).

We have about two weeks to decide what to do.

You said Terrance can visit more theme parks before he has to leave, but somehow he will "benefit" from going to Disneyworld?

Two obvious solutions:
1. Original 3 continue to go, tough luck for Freddy.
2. Terrance stays home and goes by himself in the future.

Although I would question why you can't re-book everything for 4 people, or why Freddy couldn't book himself alongside as well: may not be in the same hotel or be able to take the same transport etc, but he can still be at the theme park itself.

Would it cost anything extra to add a person if you make new reservation for 4 and cancel the old ones for 3?

Worst case I can think of is just saying "Sorry, we already had all of the plans/reservations/what made.".. or maybe suggesting he go at the same time but independently and joining you there?

This is a metaphor, meaning it probably doesn't actually involve Disneyworld or Six Flags; they represent two desirable things, with one being the favored choice that only three people can have.

We can't give you a good answer if we don't know what the actual situation is. Don't worry if it's embarrassing, we don't exactly judge.

The time difference was about 15 minutes.

I remember when the music department in my high school went to Disneyland they put four students to a room. The girls just shared the bed with a roomate, other two roomates got the other bed. The guys were so homophobic though they'd sleep on the floor, or in the bath tub, if it meant they didn't have to sleep with a dude.

Oh, so this is a metaphor is it? In that case, you should sodomise Freddy with a large black baseball bat until he shits unicorns. Then you can all have a poo and piss party over at Freddy's place and it'll be exactly like Disneyland.

I don't see why you feel you owe anything to Freddy. He wasn't part of the original group, and he's only an acquaintance. Stick with the original group and tell him he can join you if he handles the shit himself. He needs to learn self sufficiency ;o
