I get asked this often. Often enough that even if a mod closes it, I'll have a permanent link to which I can link anyone to if they were to ask why I'm here.
Also called: Kame being an egotistIt has come to some of your attentions that I do not play SC, and that I do not map. Occasionally I'll think about it, or I'll turn on SC2 (since I do own it), but usually I start going through the tutorial and will get bored.
Anyways, why am I here? It all started one day freshman year, you know, when people still called others to see what was up instead of using facebook? My friend called me. Turned out he was grounded (we had planned to go to the movies that night because he worked at a theater and got free tickets whenever he wanted), so we couldn't go out. Bummer. Instead, apparently, he told me he was apart of this forum called Staredit.net.
Me: "What is it?"
Him: "Oh, its a gaming community"
Me: "I don't really play video games that often"
Him: "No one will care just sign up!"
So I did. Over time I met people that genuinely cracked me up and I looked forward to getting online every night. I was a bit of a noob, but my friend IRL was a bigger one. And the trend continues <3

I think the question is more aroused by curiosity than by "WAT U DOIN OUR BACKYARD U DUN MAEK MAPS"
None.
Who was the friend who told you about SEN? And how did you become a Mod so long ago?
Currently Working On: My Overwatch addiction.
His name was Flaming X
Yoshi trusted me for some reason and gave me mod status over Off Topic.
Kame, you are a year older than me, here on SEN. How do you not meet Veteran status yet?
None.
I asked Moose at one point, he said it was because I didn't play SC. which is understandable, but I still want the title.
I've contributed positively to the website once...

Being vet is apparently about being productive and contributing, not just being around forever Which is unfortunate, really, I never really had the time to learn how to map. And by now I feel like it won't be worth the effort even if i did.
My story for coming here really isn't anywhere near as interesting.
Oh, and making total conversions and such isn't enough for Veteran, either, so don't sweat it.
Show them your butt, and when you do, slap it so it creates a sound akin to a chorus of screaming spider monkeys flogging a chime with cacti. Only then can you find your destiny at the tip of the shaft.

Me too!
That's an interesting story. I'd like to see how everyone else here was introduced to starcraft/SEN/battle.net.
I got into blizzard games from my sister's ex-boyfriend. He was an avid gamer and my sister played a good bit herself at the time. She got into starcraft and diablo II and many other games that were eventually given to me. I played starcraft offline for a good while, but one time I clicked "multiplayer" just for lulz and went on. I was amazed that dial-up could support online gaming, because I was totally expecting for it to not work. I played for many hours. That was when i was about... 9? I'm now 18.
SEN just sorta fell into the mix somewhere along the line.

I imagine a lot of us were directed to SEN when we publicly asked for mapping help or something. At least, that's how I ended up here.
I remember trying to look for a starcraft.com site, but all I could find was starcraft.org. I went there and saw all the maps and fan fic/art they had and was really impressed. I tried out mapping myself, but I didn't know much. I went to starcraft.org's forums (warboards) and asked for help. After that, I became a very active member there and began mapping a lot more. Oo.Twitch.oO was on that site and he helped me a lot with mapping. He told me about maplantis and SEN, so then one day I came here and posted some of my melee maps. Ex was mean to me, but I kept posting my maps (they were still probably some of the better ones posted). ;o Eventually, I started coming here frequently, asking for mapping help and stuff.
In 2004, I was mapping a lot, and I was always looking for a showroom of sorts to present my works.
At that time, I could only find Starcraft.org and Supremestarcraft. Although I would constantly submit my maps to both, SCO accepted only one. Down on my luck, yet still mapping, in early 2005 a friend directed me to SEN after I completed my movie map, 'Good To Go'.
Uploading it, getting notified that it was approved, and reading the feedback: there was no better feeling.
After that, I looked forward to mapping, and I was here to stay.
None.
