OVERWATCH STATUS GO

GENERAL NOTES
Though this is based on the Battlestar Galactica series, players will not be following a specific plot from the show, but instead a loose reimagining following one event in the show. For example the "final five" Cylons will be mentioned frequently, but they wont be the same "final five" from the show. :P

Through the course of this game, I will use the following characters from the Battlestar Galactica series.
William Adama - Commander of the Battlestar Galactica.
Saul Tigh - Executive Officer of the Battlestar Galactica.
Laura Roslin - President of the 12 colonies.
Gaius Baltar - Brilliant scientist and developer of the Cylon detector.
Dr. Sherman Cottle - Chief Medical Officer of the Battlestar Galactica.
Lee Adama - Son of William Adama and commander of the air group (CAG).
Sharon Valerii - Raptor pilot and now known Cylon.
Galen Tyrol - Deck Chief of the Battlestar Galactica.
Kara "Starbuck" Thrace - Viper pilot.

I will occasionally refer to Cylons by model number (1 through 13), as well.

I should also note that if you see the words "frak," "skinjob," or "toaster," they are all references to the show and are probably not clues against players. :)

The following has no clues. Really. I wrote this before sending out roles.

- DAY 0 -

Alarms began to roar through the ship.

The CiC, the ship's main command room, was near silent otherwise. The guards around the room were dumbfounded. "What the frak just happened?," one muttered to himself. No one saw this coming. Commander Adama clutched his chest as blood continued to seep from his fresh wound. Above him stood Sharon Valerii, one of the ship's more distinguished pilots. She dropped her sidearm as a security officer quickly detained her, forcing her out of the room. Everyone else seemed to be immobilized by the surprise.

Colonel Tigh could barely hold the com steady as he quickly began to speak. "Cottle, this is the XO. Get to CiC as soon as possible." He had to pause and breathe. "Adama's been shot." Tigh stared at his console. He was now the acting commander, and not at all prepared for such a responsibility.

"This is his command. His orders are still the word of the Gods on board this ship. Just so we're clear. This will be Adama's command until the day he dies. And we are not going to let him die. So say we all."

Dr. Cottle had just finished his rounds as he was pulling out a fresh cigarette. Another slow day for the medical team, there hasn't been a Cylon attack in weeks. He glanced over at one of his doctors nearby, and offered him a smoke as well. "I realize these things will kill us one day. Live a little." The ship's alarm system started blaring before he could even crack a smile.

"Cottle, this is the XO. Get to CiC as soon as possible." Tigh's voice sounded erratic as it pierced through the medical bay's com system. "Adama's been shot."

The room had a sudden burst of commotion.

"Let us through! Move aside!" Angry and confused onlookers reluctantly lined the walls of the ship's hallway as Sharon was being escorted to the brig. She had just killed a man who was like a father to her. Deep down she had to know why, but she couldn't quite piece it together yet.

A gunshot rang through the metallic hallway, interrupting her ability to think on it any longer. The once angry onlookers were now panicking. "Oh my Gods, Valerii's shot. Anyone see the shooter? Get the frak back, people!" The security officer was doing his best to maintain order, but pandemonium was winning.

The shooter calmly slinked through the crowd, unnoticed. "I will be the judge, jury, and executioner" he thought to himself.

"Your Cylon detector does work, though, right?" Lee Adama was trying his best to keep his composure. It is difficult to now have to rely on a man he has absolutely no faith in.

"Yes, but we will need a sample of Valerii's blood. I was ordered to test the entire crew. Do you know how long that will take?" Lee gave the famed genius a blank gaze. "But I can make an exception." Gaius Baltar smirked as he leaned to one of his assistants, signalling him to contact the ship's mortician. "Unfortunately, this will not be a quick process. It will take time to test her sample, but I will let you know as soon as possible." He was quite pleased with himself as he turned and nodded to a seemingly unoccupied corner of his science lab.

The lounge was near silent. Some patrons were consumed by the thought of their commander - their savior - dying. Others were more concerned with the fact that mankind's destructors now looked and acted like humans.

"He'll be alright." Kara Thrace's voice was almost startling as she broke the silence. "The commander will be alright." She wasn't so sure of it herself, but something had to be said.

"That's not all I'm worried about," Galen responded. "Sharon." The room became deathly silent as the name escaped his mouth. Just minutes before, word had reached them about Baltar's analysis of her blood. "She was one of us. How many more of them are out there?"

"How many more of them are in here?" interrupted one of the pilots. The thought had crossed everyone's mind, but no one else wanted to admit it. "I have no idea who to trust anymore."

"Fraking toasters will never get me." Word travels fast on this ship, and even the more estranged members of the crew have now heard about Sharon's true identity. The man was sweating profusely as he wired his explosives, occasionally looking at the hatch of his room. "I knew it all along. I knew they looked like us now. But did anyone listen to me? No, of course not. No one fraking listens to me." He paused, glanced at his door again, and returned to his pet project. "Frak them. Frak them all."

"I'm glad you could meet with me on such short notice." President Roslin struggled to speak. She seemed to be taking Commander Adama's assassination attempt worse than anyone.

"I came as soon as I could." The Quorum member spoke as enthusiastically as possible. He could easily recognize her dismay.

"Thank you, I really appreciate it." Roslin forced a smile. "By now you've probably heard that Bill's," she paused for a moment. "That Commander Adama's assassin, Sharon Valerii, was a Cylon. I wish I could say that the notion of Cylons looking like humans is a surprise to me, but unfortunately we've known about this for a while. We had no idea, however, that one of our own decorated pilots could be one of them." She attempted to remain as political as possible, sensing the unrest in her guest's body language. "Gauis Baltar has developed a way to detect the difference between Cylon and human blood. He and his team will be working day and night to examine the crew one by one."

"What is it you'd like me to do, Madam President?" The Quorum member typically had more patience for politics, but today he was more anxious to get off the Colonial One and return to the safety of his own ship's cabin.

"We are going to be holding trials daily for members of the crew who are assumed to be linked to the Cylons. Members of this tribunal have been randomly selected already, and we will begin tomorrow. I want you to take part in the proceedings. Given that I trust your judgement, I will see to it that you will have more clout than the rest." The man bowed his head, respectfully, acknowledging her request.

One by one, a handful of Cylon agents quietly entered a dimly lit room in the bowels of the ship.

"Our cover has been blown," one Cylon swiftly exclaimed. He began pacing around, in turn making the others more tense. This is not his usual demeanor.

"No, the Eight's cover was blown. We are fine," another responded assuredly. His model tended to favor logic over the seemingly neurotic rambling of his associate.

A third Cylon expressed his own uptight worry, however. "We can't keep meeting like this. It's too dangerous now. Baltar-"

"Don't worry about Baltar. He is and will always be one of the Six's playthings." He changed his tone as he caught the Six's glare. "We'll keep our communication low key."

"What about the final five?," the Six model asked.

"It is forbidden to talk about them."

The fifth Cylon finally decided to speak up. "The Three says she has seen their faces. They are in this fleet. At least one of them has to be on this ship. Maybe she'll tell us who they are." She paused for a moment, ignoring her companions' disapproving looks. "I know it is forbidden, but I don't care anymore. We will need their help."

Night 1 begins now. Send your actions to me by Monday at 11:59 PM (Pacific Standard Time).

Doctor should target someone they consider likely to be killed and also innocent. If it isn't obvious, don't tell anyone who you're protecting because the Mafia will just hit someone else. Don't protect someone just because they ask you, or listen to anyone who openly suggests protecting a certain person, for obvious reasons.

The best way to increase your chances of successfully protecting someone is to choose a good target yourself without outside influence.

As for the Scientist, you're the most important role, so do not share your identity with anyone unless you're positive they are innocent. Simply investigating someone is not reliable, as the Mole could have cleared them. Do not invest 100% trust into someone just because their test came back negative, as demonstrated by the events of the previous Mafia game.

For both the Scientist and Mortician, use the information you collect for your own purposes, and try to determine the guilty parties from it yourself. Trusting anyone with this information is retarded since you'll be the Mafia's number one target if your identity is leaked. If someone is getting bandwagoned and you're sure they're innocent, that's pretty much the only circumstance you should consider revealing yourself, and even then it'd be better to only tell one person and have them post the information for you.

That being said, hopefully at least a majority of the Town can act intelligently this game.

The fifth Cylon finally decided to speak up.

Looks like there's only five of them. Judging by the roles, I'd guess two Hitmen, two Moles, and a Seductress, not to mention the Traitor. Right now Town should outnumber Mafia 3-to-1.

An artist's depiction of an Extended Unit Death

Screw it, I'm doing clue analysis anyway.

Quote from DevliN
Alarms began to roar through the ship.
Alarms could be pointing to the http://www.staredit.net/topic/14099/ thread (alarm clocks), which Echo made. Also, a roar is loud and would tend to echo. Ship makes me think of Pirates of the Caribbean. In that movie, they visit a cave, and caves are notorious for having echoes.

Quote from DevliN
The CiC, the ship's main command room, was near silent otherwise.
The SILENT Echo Network.

Quote from DevliN
The guards around the room were dumbfounded.
It sounds like a large room, and large empty rooms tend to echo. Also, Tempz posted that he was amazed and annoyed by my logic, which could be called dumbfounded, so this could be hinting at either of us.

Quote from DevliN
"What the frak just happened?," one muttered to himself.
Azrael.Wrath is the only one who said frak in the shoutbox.

Quote from DevliN
No one saw this coming.
Could be referring to a past mafia game where nobody expected somebody to be a certain alignment. Inferno mentioned that nobody suspected me of being Cult-aligned in his game, so it could be hinting at either of us.

Quote from DevliN
Commander Adama clutched his chest as blood continued to seep from his fresh wound.
Quote from DevliN
"This is his command. His orders are still the word of the Gods on board this ship. Just so we're clear. This will be Adama's command until the day he dies. And we are not going to let him die. So say we all."
That's a weird thing to say when Adama basically dies immediately afterward. If you step back and look at this, it almost sounds like they intend on bringing the dead back to life. Zombies -> Azrael.Wrath by avatar.

Quote from DevliN
Above him stood Sharon Valerii, one of the ship's more distinguished pilots. She dropped her sidearm as a security officer quickly detained her, forcing her out of the room. Everyone else seemed to be immobilized by the surprise.
At first glance, it may just appear to be talking about a weapon, but if you think about it, this wording had to be intentional. Perhaps it's referring to arms just hanging by someone's side? OlimarandLouie's avatar has Olimar with his arms resting by his sides.

Quote from DevliN
Colonel Tigh could barely hold the com steady as he quickly began to speak. "Cottle, this is the XO. Get to CiC as soon as possible." He had to pause and breathe. "Adama's been shot." Tigh stared at his console. He was now the acting commander, and not at all prepared for such a responsibility.
"Hold the com" is an anagram for "Hootch Meld." OlimarandLouie was the Bartender for both of my games, and Bartenders mix drinks all the time. COINCIDENCE? I THINK NOT!
Also, when people are shouting for an echo, they have to pause and take a deep breath. Also, who else but Echo acts like a role they aren't?

Quote from DevliN

We see seven of these lines in the post. Not only is Voyager7456 the only player with the number 7 in his name, but he is also player 7!

Quote from DevliN
Dr. Cottle had just finished his rounds as he was pulling out a fresh cigarette. Another slow day for the medical team, there hasn't been a Cylon attack in weeks. He glanced over at one of his doctors nearby, and offered him a smoke as well. "I realize these things will kill us one day. Live a little."
Tempz by avatar, basically spelled out for us.

Quote from DevliN
The ship's alarm system started blaring before he could even crack a smile.
Definitely a clue based on OlimarandLouie's avatar. Louie has a smile and Olimar hasn't cracked one yet.

Quote from DevliN
"Cottle, this is the XO. Get to CiC as soon as possible." Tigh's voice sounded erratic as it pierced through the medical bay's com system. "Adama's been shot."
To slay a demon, one must pierce through its skin. Obviously pointing towards Dem0nS1ayer.

Quote from DevliN
The room had a sudden burst of commotion.
Here we see the word "room" again; it seems to come up often, doesn't it, Echo?
The MLP thread could be considered a sudden burst of commotion, so it could be pointing to either Riney or Lingie by avatar. Devlin used the word "immobilized" earlier, which may single it down to Riney, since Lingie's avatar is animated.

Quote from DevliN
"Let us through! Move aside!" Angry and confused onlookers reluctantly lined the walls of the ship's hallway as Sharon was being escorted to the brig. She had just killed a man who was like a father to her. Deep down she had to know why, but she couldn't quite piece it together yet.
It sounds like the halls are crowded and busy, similar to Black Friday in stores. This connects yet again to Echo, this time by avatar, which is wearing a Santa hat. And what is another name for Santa? FATHER Christmas.

Quote from DevliN
A gunshot rang through the metallic hallway, interrupting her ability to think on it any longer. The once angry onlookers were now panicking. "Oh my Gods, Valerii's shot. Anyone see the shooter? Get the frak back, people!" The security officer was doing his best to maintain order, but pandemonium was winning.
Metals are poisonous when consumed. This points to poison_us.
There's the word frak again; you have some explaining to do, Azrael.
The first part of pandemonium sounds like panda, and pandas are black and white. This clearly points to Tempz by avatar.

Quote from DevliN
The shooter calmly slinked through the crowd, unnoticed. "I will be the judge, jury, and executioner" he thought to himself.
The only judge in the most recent contest (Rampage) playing this game is Azrael.Wrath.

Quote from DevliN
"Your Cylon detector does work, though, right?" Lee Adama was trying his best to keep his composure. It is difficult to now have to rely on a man he has absolutely no faith in.
Jack, obviously.

Quote from DevliN
"Yes, but we will need a sample of Valerii's blood. I was ordered to test the entire crew. Do you know how long that will take?" Lee gave the famed genius a blank gaze. "But I can make an exception." Gaius Baltar smirked as he leaned to one of his assistants, signalling him to contact the ship's mortician. "Unfortunately, this will not be a quick process. It will take time to test her sample, but I will let you know as soon as possible."
I'm a genius, so this could be pointing towards me. But more likely, Jack was a "lazy genius" last mafia game, so this could be referring to him.

Quote from DevliN
He was quite pleased with himself as he turned and nodded to a seemingly unoccupied corner of his science lab.
Observers in SC are cloaked and seemingly not there. Since the person nodded in that direction, he knows someone is there, much like how a player knows where his own Observer is. Points to Oberver12425.

The lounge was near silent. Some patrons were consumed by the thought of their commander - their savior - dying. Others were more concerned with the fact that mankind's destructors now looked and acted like humans. This is pointing to the religious Jack.

"He'll be alright." Kara Thrace's voice was almost startling as she broke the silence. "The commander will be alright." She wasn't so sure of it herself, but something had to be said. She repeats, or echoes, herself. Also silence is probably referring to the Silent Echo Network.

"That's not all I'm worried about," Galen responded. "Sharon." The room became deathly silent as the name escaped his mouth. Just minutes before, word had reached them about Baltar's analysis of her blood. "She was one of us. How many more of them are out there?"Echo again.

"How many more of them are in here?" interrupted one of the pilots. The thought had crossed everyone's mind, but no one else wanted to admit it. "I have no idea who to trust anymore."Jack again.

"Fraking toasters will never get me."Azrael again with the frak.
Toasters is undoubtedly pointing to this shout by Symmetry.

Word travels fast on this ship, and even the more estranged members of the crew have now heard about Sharon's true identity. The man was sweating profusely as he wired his explosives, occasionally looking at the hatch of his room. "I knew it all along. I knew they looked like us now. But did anyone listen to me? No, of course not. No one fraking listens to me." He paused, glanced at his door again, and returned to his pet project. "Frak them. Frak them all."Hatch -> Eggs -> Birds -> Wing Zero.
Also, it's clear by this point that Azrael is Cylon-aligned.

"I'm glad you could meet with me on such short notice." President Roslin struggled to speak. She seemed to be taking Commander Adama's assassination attempt worse than anyone.Obviously referring to Tempz's difficulty with English.

"I came as soon as I could." The Quorum member spoke as enthusiastically as possible. He could easily recognize her dismay.Sexual innuendo, most likely hinting at Symmetry. Or maybe it's referring to Lingie's shout.

He and his team will be working day and night to examine the crew one by one."Forcing a smile obviously points to Olimar's avatar.
Political is probably referring to Jack's http://www.staredit.net/topic/13485/ thread.
One by one is a phrase Jack used when talking about Mafia in the shoutbox here.

"What is it you'd like me to do, Madam President?" The Quorum member typically had more patience for politics, but today he was more anxious to get off the Colonial One and return to the safety of his own ship's cabin.Again pointing to Jack's topic.

"We are going to be holding trials daily for members of the crew who are assumed to be linked to the Cylons. Members of this tribunal have been randomly selected already, and we will begin tomorrow. I want you to take part in the proceedings. Given that I trust your judgement, I will see to it that you will have more clout than the rest." The man bowed his head, respectfully, acknowledging her request.Another judge clue pointing to Azrael.

One by one, a handful of Cylon agents quietly entered a dimly lit room in the bowels of the ship. Here we see "One by one" again, enforcing the clue interpretation against Jack.

"Our cover has been blown," one Cylon swiftly exclaimed. He began pacing around, in turn making the others more tense. This is not his usual demeanor.Pointing to lil-Inferno by avatar.

"No, the Eight's cover was blown. We are fine," another responded assuredly. His model tended to favor logic over the seemingly neurotic rambling of his associate.Enforcing the clue interpretation against Inferno.
The bit about logic may be referring to the exchange Tempz and I had earlier in the thread. This would be pointing at me.

A third Cylon expressed his own uptight worry, however. "We can't keep meeting like this. It's too dangerous now. Baltar-"This could be referring to Excalibur's topic http://www.staredit.net/topic/14353/.

"Don't worry about Baltar. He is and will always be one of the Six's playthings." He changed his tone as he caught the Six's glare. "We'll keep our communication low key."Lowkey is a musician. This points to TiKels by avatar.

"What about the final five?," the Six model asked.

"It is forbidden to talk about them."Free speech -> this exchange between Jack and Devlin. Jack even says "forbidden" there!

We will need their help."Enforcing the clue interpretation against Jack.

I don't think DevliN would put a potential 6 mafia into the game - what he wrote I think is for story purposes. It's probably more like 4 + a traitor.

EDIT: Yeah, because re-reading it there is someone called the Eighth cylon and someone is Six, so either these numbers have nothing to do with how many mafia are in the game, or DevliN just decided to put 8 or more cylons in (which would be fucked, lol).

All Cylons have model numbers assigned to them - so saying "Eight" is just another way of referring to Sharon.

The "Final Five" Cylons in the series were Cylons who thought they were humans pretty much throughout 75% of the series. Seemed appropriate for the Traitor role. I realize that can be confusing for anyone who hasn't seen the show. Essentially I included the disclaimer so that someone wouldn't see the Day 0 post (or any other post, for that matter) and be like "OMG he capitalized 'Eight' so clearly that refers to a player number or date" or something.

If it helps any, here is a list of non "Final Five" Cylons in the series. Reading those wont help in this game too much, but it may help a bit to at least characterize them if need be.
