Just Here For The Pie

Have you ever been spotted on Battle.net for your works?

I was reading through an old post in the General section and it made me think of all the times I have been noticed by random players on StarCraft for my maps. I have had people point me out for both my games and my movie maps. The bulk of my notice came from SBW2 and the ZvR series, but there have been others.

I once met this one fellow named InfestedNoobie (or something along that line) in a lobby. The instant he saw me, he friended me because he obsessed over these two bounds I had made.

Out of nowhere, for a few months, people started hosting my uncompleted map 'Cat & Mouse: Kitchen', and that whole summer people would point me out in lobbies for it.

I even ran into someone that knew me from Ne.onZ (aka SpiderFreak)'s map 'Can You Do Tricks' as a tester!

Also, the first time I ran into Echo and Vi3t they both knew me from my ZvR series. Same with ssj9kevin (for all my maps?).

Anyway, this is SEN, a community of mappers & modders, have you ever been called out for what you do?

OVERWATCH STATUS GO

I've been recognized more due to being a staff member of SEN or my social skills back when map-making clans were big, rather than actual map-making.

Just here for the pie

Despite never actually finishing a map I get quite some "OMG INFERNO REMEMBER ME?"s or "WOW INFERNO YOU MADE *map map map*"s.

We live in a society.

"Hey, didn't you make TS?"
"When is the next Probert the Probe coming out?"
"Watch out, if you piss him off he can ban you from SEN!"

I think once someone recognized me from one of my dumb testmaps.

Find Me On Discord (Brood War UMS Community & Staredit Network)

I made a Helms Deep v TFE that was popular on BNET for awhile. That was back when I played lots of Helms Deep and people were like "hey, you made v TFE!". But after awhile people thought it was imba and went back to Annatar.

An artist's depiction of an Extended Unit Death

I was always recognized from bounders, probably because I made like 20 bounds.

A lot of people recognized me from Super Mario SC for the week or so that it became popular.

And I have a decent amount of random people who tell me how much they like Dash. This is usually followed by "Have you made any more of them?"

Nobody knows what the hell Fireball is, though. :(

At the time I released Deadship, it was so popular that it was constantly being hosted and made up a good portion of available games at any given time. A bunch of people started making spin-off maps and alternate versions, most (if not all) of which credited me as well. I had to make a new account to get on Bnet with because people kept constantly messaging me otherwise.

After releasing a few of them, I couldn't join most Resident Evil maps without being recognized and subsequently messaged either, so I again went with a pseudonym. And then I didn't login to my real account for so long that it was deleted for inactivity :awesome: I couldn't remake it because it started with a hyphen, so I went with this name instead.

Most people who'd recognize me would have done so by my original name, so I guess I don't have to worry about it anymore.

eternal lurker

The only thing I've ever been recognized for is the Impossible Dirt series maps, and that was only several years ago when people used to actually play them. Even so, it was only a few times. I've never even finished any other maps :awesome:.

The sword and the faith

I've released quite a few maps but no one has really recognized me. I have had some people go 'Oh you made that one RE:RC edit' or 'Don't you work with Laura?', but PK and Laura are the names in their heads, mine is just a footnote they barely recall. I'm fine with this however. I'm proud of the maps I've created and I only hope people play them. I really wish I knew if D:E or Neo Ticondera are being played.

I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.

I even have been kicked out of the lobby because someone thought I would be a name spoofer when I joined a game hosting my map. :)

Unfortunately all my recognition came from a small subculture of battle.net called "RPers" who happened to play my roleplay maps. While I suppose I've been widely recognized among them, I haven't done anything noteworthy outside of that class so I haven't gained widespread recognition, though occasionally people recognize me through testing my rpg. The recognition can be gratifying, but oftentimes its more a hassle than its worth, especially in the little subculture that I became noteworthy in.

Dammit, thanks for reminding me; that happened to me a lot as well. It's probably the most infuriating way to be recognized, especially when it's so easy to check if someone's spoofing with a /whois.

I forgot about the time I told one of my friends I made StarCraft maps, and he said he had another friend that played StarCraft, so he asked me my account name to see if she'd heard of me. Her response was something along the lines of "Oh yeah I like that one Resident Evil map of his" in some excited fashion and he acted amazed like I was famous or something lol. Tbh I was surprised myself since it would have to be highly coincidental.

Second best recognition was when I met PK in a game and in the lobby he said he liked that map as well and had beaten it already.

Edit: Lol @ getting kicked from games, that's one benefit of joining your own maps with a pseudonym I guess.

Just Here For The Pie

I have been kicked from both: Cat & Mouse: Kitchen and The New Pac Man.

Feels good? Eh, I would just host something better.
