Cardinal you shouldn't have been allowed to play last game at all, looking at it.


Maybe rather than just saying "last game was terrible and I'm not playing because I didn't like it" you (this is directed at everyone) should try and be constructive and actually put something to the game, maybe a suggestion as to how to fix something?

There, a list of some of the roles I wanted to include. It's not a complete list, though, and the amount of roles in play depends on how many people sign up.

Implying that Azreal wasn't voted out of popularity, or others haven't been in the past. I'm trying to help Inferno set down some things to make sure last game doesn't happen again, and we have a very rough sketch of whats going down right now. Thats all. Everything is set to change or can be changed.

Also, Inferno, if you want to get on TS and collaborate with me again, I'm up for it.

I can't get on TS at the moment, and all Mafia roles will be assigned prior to the mayor election, but not townie roles. It'll make it more interesting.

Bro you really should let the others who called the next mafia game 4 months ago host their games. Also, no offense, but I don't really like the way you play. You say who gets targetted instead of leaving us to figure out (i.e. roy was attacked but he dodged, broadcaster was hit he has 1 life left). I don't really think you know how to write up the posts very well. ;O

That was the first Mafia game I've hosted. I learned from my mistakes and this one will be better.

EDIT: If any of the previous people want to host one, I'll postpone this one and they can go along with theirs.

Don't be hatin' on lil! I thought his last game was alright. It may have been a bit unbalanced, but I enjoyed the variety of roles.

lil, you can go ahead and add me to the list if this game is going on. If not, I'll join the game of whoever else is hosting.

EDIT: On second thought, give me a few days to straighten out my real-life schedule. Then I'll decide whether I have enough time to play Mafia.

I was #10 on the list, although I don't know where on the list we were. Olimar was either one before or after me. That's all I remember

By the way, role claiming was not an issue in the last one, although maybe it would have been had I not figured out the Mafia before then. You can ask Tikels, I had him and Cardinal at the top of my suspicion list before I ever asked for role claims. The next two under them were already Aristocrat and Riney. I knew all the Mafia before the first night started.

Riney was the least suspicious of the four at first, but still in the top four, so Raitaki was going to use an invite on him to confirm the suspicion. He sent it into lil, but ended up changing it because we decided the confirmation wasn't necessary. As the events of Day 2 unfolded, it became increasingly obvious that we suspected the right people.

That being said, some ways to downplay the impact of role claiming:

• Have less unique roles.
  
• Do not reveal roles upon death.
  
• Have a role (possibly Mafia) that can manipulate role reveals.

What I came up with in the 20 seconds it took to type it. I'm sure there are other ways as well.

Role claiming, fake claiming, and counter claiming are all fundamental elements of Mafia, and the only reason there would be to discourage them is weak game design. The setup always takes it into account. There are no good Mafia games where people aren't supposed to claim, that would just be stupid.

By the way, not giving out roles before the Mayor election is horrifically terrible game design.

Why? I think you should substantiate everything you say when giving criticism.

I think it's a good idea. The idea of electing someone because of their role is bullshit. Don't tell others your role; it ruins everything.

I don't see what giving out roles has to do with anything regarding the election. Haven't we gotten roles prior to electing a Mayor in every Mafia game?

Just because Az basically said "I am Boondock, elect me" doesn't mean someone couldn't counter-claim it and also ask to be elected. Hell, Mafia would have had a better chance had that happened.

It's just a different way of playing the game. Change the dynamic of the mayor to a popularity contest rather than behavior analysis or bandwagons.

Nobody could, because everyone trusted him the majority of the information last game. The only counter claims I heard of were for Poison's role. There just isn't enough people in a 20 man game to suspect that people aren't going to try to screw each other.

The point of the Mayor position is to put someone in that you want protected. Without roles given out first, the same people will always get the position, with no strategic element present at all.

How are Mafia supposed to get the Mayor seat? "Oh hey, elect me instead!" "Why...? We're all exactly the same until after the election's over."

This seems like a stupid knee-jerk reaction to the fact I got Mayor seat by claiming Boondock. Mafia were more than welcome to do the same, or elect someone else, or do any number of things differently.

I changed it so that Mafia get their roles but townies do not.

Mafia's becoming retarded now. It's not even about analyzing clues anymore. The whole last game was just "Azrael claimed boondock but I the cop jailed him so tikels the mafia couldn't die." What the fuck is the point of that? I'm glad Lingie/Riney/Azrael/Lotus weren't in my game. They add unnecessary retardation to it.
