Although Google probably took this a step too far, it generally is a good idea to have a phone verification for important stuff. I loved my bank's old system when every payment you make from your online banking has to be confirmed by you on the phone. Now they've changed it to a confirmation by re-typing the password you used to log in which is stupid because it stops only someone who jumped to my computer while I went to check the oven; I want a system that would stop someone who hacked into my computer/whatever and knows all my passwords.
Or you could just not save it on your computer? HOT DAMN!
If you're not using
Sneakemail then you fail. And no, you don't need a phone to use Google. But then again I knew this before I clicked your topic title, Tempz.
If you're paying for email then you fail.
He DID say that if you provide your real information on the internet, you deserve to have your privacy violated. Some people troll 24/7.I never said you deserved to have your privacy violated. And I already have a simpler setup that works just as well as for free. It's called having two email accounts. One is for personal use, the other is for handing out on the internet.
And having your password stolen doesn't necessarily mean that he has his passwords saved on his computer. He might have lost it due to a keylogger, phishing, or smething else.

How did I know Tempz made this topic just by reading the topic name..?

I order you to forgive yourself!
Today, Google asked me to add a phone to make my account to make it more secure. Under, there was an option to skip this step.

They've had that for ages.

Google is a free service, its logical to assume if you can't afford a simple cell phone then you're either to young/poor to bother clicking ads/consuming goods, the source of Google's income. Also, it is a good way to deter bandwidth from DOS attacks/fake accounts. Win/Win
That's not a Win-Win.
Google advertizes to less people, maybe they save more bandwith, but all of the people that don't have cell phones are going to go to another Email Provider, and see their advertizements. and the young/poor people without a cell phones get screwed. Although pretty soon cell phones will be the norm for 5 year olds too
And... Who clicks on adds? I know I don't.

Google has to pay the bills somehow. If they didn't, they'd cease to exist, or roll back their services and offer less. Would your use of the internet be worse without google search and gmail, or better? When google wins, everyone who uses their services also wins.
