Night 4:

The death and chaos in Tokyo knew no bounds. Once again, bodies scattered the once-peaceful town, the most grotesque of the kills involved a decapitated body. The townspeople know realized that this was no small grudge or random occurrence, there had be something more happening. And they were right, for they were still completely unaware of the carnage that was about to unfold tonight.

He sat quietly, and wrote down his targets on a piece of parchment. The ninja was contemplating who would he would kill tonight. On the parchment, he had written three targets. Throughout the night, he would visit his targets, and attempt to kill them all. If he succeeds, he will have successfully eliminated three of his rivals, but if he failed, he would lose everything. He tucked away the parchment, and with his Kusarigama in hand, he ran off to his first target.

Quickly moving between trees in a forest, he quickly made his way to find his first mark. Remaining high among the treetops, he silently moved across them, keeping his eyes open for his target. After a couple of minutes, he noticed movement below him. Stopping on a branch high in the trees, he looked down to his target. There he saw a ninja with a Tessen, moving stealthily along the low grass. He readied his weapon, but noticed movement to his side. He looked to his right, and saw another ninja, patiently waiting for the target on the ground below. He waited for the other ninja to act first before he would go in for the kill.

Watching silently, he watched the ninja pull back the bow and take aim at his mark. For several seconds, the ninja held the bow with almost perfect concentration. Finally, the ninja released his arrow at his target. The kusarigama ninja watched the arrow intently zoom in on the mark, but was slightly satisfied to see the arrow was deflected by the tessen of the ninja. He knew that the kill was his now.

Looking over once again, he noticed something strange. The branches behind the other ninja seemed to move, and in a blink of an eye, the bow ninja was impaled by a katana from behind him. The kusarigama ninja winced from watching him get impaled, observing as another ninja appeared behind the bow ninja. Watching the katana ninja, he saw the ninja pull out the katana, and in one movement of his arm, the head of the bow ninja fell from the tree tops to the ground, landing with a thump. Leeroy_Jenkins was dead.

"One less ninja for me to kill." The kusarigama ninja thought, as he reacquired his target on the ground, and followed him, moving silently through the canopy.

Once he was far enough from the katana ninja, he decided that he would make his move on his first mark. With utmost precision and accuracy, he jumped from his branch and swooped down on his target, attempting to kill his enemy before he could even react. However, as he was a meter above his opponent, the tessen ninja quickly turned around and deflected the oncoming sickle of the other ninja. Landing on his feet, the Kusarigama ninja quickly began swiping at his target, attempting to land the sickle into the body of his mark. However, his attacks were being quickly evaded by the tessen Ninja who had seemed to anticipate each and every attack the assassin was attempting on him.

He attempted to blind-side his opponent by spinning the chain into the face of his mark, but the tessen ninja easily deflected the chain with his fan. He quickly grew tired of the tessen's ninja conservative fighting style, and began becoming more aggressive in his attacks. The tessen ninja responded by tightening his movements and defenses. Finally, after several minutes of aggressive attacks from the sickle-chain Ninja, he realized that his assassination had failed, and with his pride still intact, quickly fled from the battle.

As he ran through the forest, he realized what a fool he had been, realizing he should have attacked earlier if he wanted to inflict any damage. He knew that he would have to get him another night, and moved onto his next target. He found himself moving along a cliff-side, when he noticed flashes below him. Kneeling to one knee, he observed the battle down below.

Two ninjas were interlocked in battle. Both were using explosives, but he noticed one of the ninjas was much more aggressive in his stance and attacks, and assumed that this was the ninja that was assassinating the other. He watched them throw explosives at each other as explosions echoed throughout the field. For every one explosive used, the other easily matched it with his own. He then witnessed both throwing a bomb at each other that exploded into several small pieces of metal, but each ninja had easily moved from their former positions. Both seemed to be throwing every explosive in their arsenal, but they were evenly matched in their tactics and expertise. However, the defensive ninja seemed to be up to something. After failing to cancel out one of the explosives of his opponent, he threw a small white ball. Upon the impact, the ball emitted an intense flash, blinding his opponent and the ninja in the cliff.

When the ninja on the cliff regained his sight, he saw that the defense ninja was gone, while the other ninja was still blinded by the high intensity flash of the bomb. That would be his downfall, as chains flew from a bush several meters from him, dragging him to the ground. As ImageDeo was dragged into the bush, he screamed for help and clawed at the ground. As the ninja watched upon the cliff, he could only make out the splatter of blood and the repeated motion of a sickle being brought down upon something, which he only assumed to be the unfortunate ninja. With his second target still on his mind, he moved on as the spatter of blood stained the grass red. ImagoDeo was dead.

He moved to an open field, and laying low, he marveled at the coincidence before him. Before him, in the open field, was his final two marks. One ninja was wielding throwing weapons, and the other ninja wielded dual-katanas. They had made it so easy for him to complete his final two marks, as they had unwittingly engaged into battle while he waited in the shadows for his chance. The throwing ninja was very aggressive in his movements and gestures while the dual-katana ninja seemed to be anxious for something else, only dodging and moving away from his assassin, he seemed like he was waiting for someone else.

He knew that he would have to strike soon if he wanted to get both of them, so while he saw the throwing ninja reach for more weapons, he struck like lightning. In a matter of seconds, he was upon the other throwing ninja, bringing down his kusarigama upon the chest of his mark. The throwing ninja threw up blood as he was staggered from the blow, and the kusarigama ninja pulled his weapon from the mark and kicked him away. He then turned his attention to the dual-katana ninja, and readied his attack.

"I've been waiting for you, that other ninja was starting to bore me. You're my real target." The dual-katana ninja tightened his stance and appeared focused.
"I've come to kill you, it's time for you to die!" The kusarigama ninja rushed headfirst at his mark and the battle began.

The kusarigama ninja relished every moment of the battle, as each of the combatants were giving everything they had in attempt to kill each other. He watched his opponent use the katanas with deadliness and grace, as they deflected each others blows. He brought swiped his sickle at his opponent, but the blow was deflected and was met from a stab from a katana. He side-stepped the stabbing motion, and with his chains, wrapped it around the katana and pulled the katana from his hand, throwing it off into the distance. His opponent now placed both hands on his remaining katana, and began using powerful swings.

The kusarigama ninja blocked each swing, and attempted to wrap the last katana of his opponent with his weapon, but for each time he tried, the other ninja quickly avoided the metal chains and continued his attack. The kusarigama ninja knew his advantage in weaponry was at mid-range, so he quickly back-pedaled and used the chains of his weapon to keep the opponent away from melee range. However, due to the increased distance, this allowed the other ninja to sprint for his katana in the distance.

Realizing his folly, he quickly chased after his opponent, attempting to cut him off before he could attain his second weapon again. However, just as he had started running, his opponent stopped suddenly and tripped the ninja behind him. The kusarigama ninja lost grip of his weapon and went flying through the air, tumbling on the ground and rolling uncontrollably, until he hit a tree. He got up, but it was too late. The other ninja was upon him, and with his two swords in hand, began a frenzy of attacks while he cited something:

"I am the bone of my blade..." He slashed once across the body of his opponent, pausing to say:
"...Steel is my body, and fire is my blood." With his other hand, he slashed diagonally across the chest of his opponent.
"I have created over a thousand blades..." He paused to slash vertically on the shoulder of his foe, and began his words once again:
"...Unknown to death." He slashed horizontally across the stomach of the ninja.
"Nor known to life." He cut across the chest of his enemy.
"Have withstood pain to create many weapons." He brought down his katana on the leg of his mark while he talked.
"Yet, these hands will never hold anything." He brought up his katana on the arm of his mark while he laughed.
So as I pray, 'Unlimited Blade Works'." With those final words, he let loose a flurry of attacks in mere seconds upon Artanis186, as blood gushed from every wound that had been inflicted upon him. Artanis186 fell backwards, on the tree, his back against it, as a pool of blood formed around his body.

He looked ahead to LoTu)S, who seemed to be triumphant in his victory. However, it was short-lived as his chest was impaled by several kunai. LoTu)S gripped at his chest, kneeling down to one knee, and then falling onto the already blood-stained grass. LoTu)S was dead.

These were the final moments of Artanis186 before he died from his grievous wounds, laying against the tree, looking up at the starry sky, and closing his eyes. Artanis186 was dead.

Sorry guys, the next night won't be done by late Thursday night, very busy. :( Noted changes for possible Ninja'd version 2 though.

Anticipate now only takes one damage from Assassination
Dodge now blocks three assassination attempts, and if successfully used against at least one assassination, you gain an extra action next night. Extra actions cannot be earned the same night you use one. This extra action will only last one night.
Ukemi becomes a one time ability:
Power: Ukemi - Utilizing superior mastery of defense and pain tolerance, all damage you take after your first night life is nullified. Your first life can only be taken from an Assassinate.
Anticipate deals double damage to inactive players. :awesome:
Two ninjas assassinating each other is no longer a coin-flip, rather, both ninjas take one damage each.

The only point I still don't agree with is the last one, but please give feedback. ^^

Oct 28 2010, 10:21 am Aristocrat Post #87

That's not what ukemi means :massimo:

Double assassination should be 1 life each. Anticipate will never hit against inactive players. Dodge might as well block infinitely many assassinations, but make it so that it gets nullified by an anticipate, which makes all assassinations go through.

Doing nothing should not give you a strategic advantage over using Dodge. There has to be something to discourage it.

Another idea is that you automatically lose a life every night you don't submit actions.

Another idea is that you automatically die on the second night you don't submit actions (seppuku).

Then what happens when you get down to 1v1? It'd be impossible to deal damage to someone who uses Dodge.

His goal is to make each thing advantageous against one thing, and disadvantageous against the other (like Rock, Paper, Scissors). Against Dodge, if some people attack with Assassination and some with Anticipate, the idea is to make the Assassination players regret their choice, while the Anticipate players are glad they didn't Assassinate.

It'd be one thing if Anticipate dealt additional damage for every X Assassinations that were placed on the same target that night. Since Dodge stops 3 Assassinations now, it would make sense to make Anticipate "Deals 1 additional damage for every 3 Assassinations the target receives on the same night." That will allow Anticipate to remain superior to Assassination in all situations regarding Dodge.

I think another good rule would be "If a player who uses Dodge is killed, and at least one player used Anticipate, only players who used Anticipate will receive credit for the kill." A player who uses Anticipate against Dodge should be considered more deserving of credit than those who use Assassinate.

Here's a question: If someone uses double Dodge, should they receive 2 damage from Anticipate?

The 1 damage from anticipate still applies; I meant that getting hit by anticipate nullifies the dodging effect, so if you dodge and are hit by an assassinate AND anticipate, you take 1 damage from anticipate, which nullifies your dodge, making you take 1 more damage from assassinate.

Whoa there, I never said anything about nullifying the dodging with anticipate, I think that'd be too advantageous to assassination for Anticipation to have such an effect, assassination is overpowered as is. I only share kills when the hits actually matter, if someone anticipates someone with one life, and two people assassinated him, the assassinations had no effect on whether the person dies or not. Now, if 4 people assassinated someone dodging while someone else anticipated him, I'd have to share the kill with 5 people, in my mind at least, because the kill couldn't have been successful without 5 people. :hurr:.

Hm perhaps that could be the same, but I'm not sure I'm ready to let Dodge stop an unlimited amount of assassinations, because I'd still like the game to be offensive orientated. The thing is, I've always treated actions in a 1:1 ratio, so I'm not sure Anticipate facing two dodges would yield two damage, but who knows.

Night 5:

It seemed like ages since the last battle between ninjas had occurred in the quiet town of Tokyo. Several months passed with no sight of fighting or unrest. The citizens were happy, they were able to resume their normal lives and no longer live in fear of bloodshed and hate. Fields and roads were once again wandered by the carefree and restless. But no longer.

The days and nights of peace and prosperity had come to an end, for tonight, it began once again.

He slowly slithered through the tall grass in the field, as a full moon lit the night sky. He placed hiss hand on the sheath of his katana, as he moved quickly through the tall grass. He focused in on his target. He saw his target, a ninja armed with throwing weapons. He quickly moved closer to his unsuspecting target until something interesting had caught his eye. His target was stalking another ninja, who happened to be armed with a Tessen. The katana ninja realized this was his chance to strike, as he wanted to take down both the throwing weapon ninja and Tessen ninja once and for all. He formulated a plan as he continued moving. He would lay wait in the shadows until they had tired themselves out, and eventually strike both of them down for good. The katana ninja smirked to himself as he continued following both his targets.

After several minutes of quiet stalking, it finally happened. The throwing weapon ninja had revealed himself to the tessen ninja, and the two engaged in combat. He watched from the sidelines as they fought. He noticed that the throwing weapon ninja had a severe upper hand on the tessen ninja, as if the other ninja was pre-occupied with something else. He then saw his opportunity to strike. The throwing weapon ninja had managed to impale the tessen ninja with several weapons, visibly slowing down the tessen ninja. The katana ninja fell upon the two combatants, attempting to strike quickly. He brought his sword down on the shoulder of the throwing weapon ninja, severely injuring his shoulder. The throwing weapon ninja winced in pain, shoving the sword from his shoulder and disappearing in a cloud of smoke. The katana ninja homed in on the tessen ninja, and brought his sword down upon the injured ninja. He was confident that he could finish off his wounded opponent in one blow.

The tessen ninja smiled. Though injured, he quickly evaded to the side, and with one swipe of his fan, he cut open his sword-wielding adversary. Blood gushed everywhere as the green grass turned crimson. Grasping his chest, the katana ninja dropped his weapon and attempted to retreat from the field. The tessen ninja knew he had mortally wounded his opponent, but was too injured to pursue, so he looked off into the direction the ninja had run off too. He whipped open his tessen, watching from behind it, and silently cursed to himself. He then disappeared into the shadows.

Roy was bleeding grievously from his wounds. He had underestimated his opponent, and let his guard down. He didn't have much time to do anything, the wound had severed one of his arteries, causing him to bleed profusely. He knew that his time had come. He leaned himself against a tree, slowly slumping to the ground. He thought of all his missed opportunities and kills that he had squandered over the past months. He realized that he would at least die an honourable death, being bested by an opponent that simply out-matched him. He could feel the life leaving his body, and was glad that the pain was starting to subside as he faded in and out of his life. But he heard a click behind him. His hopes for a quiet and peaceful death were dashed, as he realized what was going to happen next.

A huge explosion engulfed the area Roy once occupied. Pillars of flames combusted, swirling and dancing on the now burning grass. Nothing was left, only ashes and destruction. Roy was dead.

CecilSunkure looked from a far distance away, and laughed heartily as he had eliminated his target. He watched as flames consumed the field and nearby vegetation. He turned around and walked away from the field of destruction. He looked around for the satchel of explosions he had placed on the ground earlier. He had only used half of his explosives on Roy, and saved the other half in case he had to fight another ninja. But he could not find the bag, as he quickly searched the ground. He wondered to himself, had he misplaced the bag somewhere to close to the explosion? Before he could finish his thought, his chest was impaled by a Kusarigama. He grasped at the weapon, attempting to pull it out, before another Kusarigama impaled him. He dropped to his knees, and looked upon his assailant. His assailant then threw something at him. The brown bag hit Cecil in the face, falling to the ground, empty.

"Thanks for the explosives. I figured that you wouldn't need them where you were going, so I just let Roy have all of them instead." The shrouded ninja laughed.

The assailant walked forward, pulling out his Kusarigamas from his wounded foe. With the moonlight shining down on the field, all that could be seen from a distance was a dark figure piercing another, with a loud thump as a figure fell to the floor. CecilSunkure was dead.

Death had finally come back to Tokyo. And it was staying for good.
