The descriptions of the differences in game modes with the new update seems to suggest you may be able to play new heroes even if you don't own them in modes other than all pick and tournament, because supposedly those modes require access to all heroes, using a token if you don't own it, and legacy accounts have unlimited tokens. In any case, this is likely only an issue for all pick mode and no others, because they are likely either available to all or available to none in all other modes, unless these heroes are somehow exempt from the selection rules that were stated in the FAQ.

DotA was an economic bombshell waiting to happen. And it took ages for it to get to this stage. And, while the money-trail is diluted (IceFrog, GuinSoo, Eul etc probably aren't earning as much as I personally think they deserve), S2 have done a great job and what? Now the game is free? Shieet. Let them at least make money some how.
IceFrog is the lead developer of DotA 2 (and formerly a developer of HoN). Guinsoo is one of the lead developers of League of Legends. Eul has remained anonymous but I'm pretty sure any team would love to put him on payroll even if he doesn't do anything just so they can say that the original creator of DotA is supporting their game.
Man, LoL must be a huge ripoff. :s
Not sure if you're serious, but all the champs in LoL can be purchased from the points you earn from playing LoL. You don't have to pay any money at all for them.
The same is true for HoN, I believe HoN heroes are actually quicker to get.

Basically you use a token to play a non-AP game but when doing so you can pick among any of the heroes.

I suck big balls at LoL (ask Riney/Lingie/Loveless), and I tried HoN once and I was absolutely shitty. I used some dude who had lightning spells and went like 0/5 in 3 minutes.

HoN is harder than LoL. Mistakes are punished more. And the people are less friendly especially towards noobs. You decide.

Despite the fact that I like none of you personally, you're all a bunch of ragers who get far too upset and since I already have a group of people to play with who play well and don't become assholes if we lose, why would I ever want to go back to you guys?
Perfect example: Was in a game yesterday as Tort. My friend was Dev, we had a Fayde, a Vindi, and a Pred. Fayde spent the first half of the game solo-ganking with her codex. All fine and dandy. But she also spent it whining, trolling, and complaining about the rest of us when everyone was either positive K:D or helping the team in a positive manner. Well gee Fayde, sorry Vindi isn't carrying the team too. Because of him foresting and leaving the team to die when we needed to push we almost lost, luckily Pred rallied and we took the game. But because he was a dick, and only because he was a dick, we almost lost. I don't like taking those chances, and I don't feel like I can count on a single one of you.
