Quote from Heinermann
If your game was modified in any way then a re-install would be the answer. I'm not sure if saving at the very end of a match can cause issues but it does give an in-game error when you save the game after failing a mission.
I'm not aware of mods that replaced files that I may have installed over the years but I added a ton of mods with external .exes and other programs. Still my version runs fine and despite his version being a copy from my hdd his showed problems.

Nevertheless thanks for the tip with the reinstall. I copied the essential files from my computer to his, added his user profile and the new copy is now working fine.
Still I wonder what happened. At first it was working fine and then some day the problems started showing up. Maybe a corrupted file? Maybe too many save games?

I doubt having too many save games can cause any problems, since it should just display the first 255 saves it can find (much like when you go to "Custom" and then browse to your downloads folder, not all the maps are shown).
It could be a virus, or if you were using some kind of storage medium to transfer then it's also possible that data can become corrupted (old storage medium?), Who knows.

I think its nooks-crannies related, considering thats what I was fixing in my map. I could be wrong of course.

Referencing an invalid unit in the creategasoverlays iscript opcode execution.

Don't know anything more about it.

Here's a few if you still want them:

Don't really remember much about the circumstances or anything, though. :wut:

SDE, BWAPI owner, hacker.

Most of those are from crash games, (or spoofers with names that are too long, causing a crash [using overlaps and all that]).
Take a look at the "Stack bytes:" section, which contains part of the map name.
The registers contain part of the spoofed name that the player used.

The only other crash is at 0x0040C119 (second file), where you were possibly testing/experienced extended units or doodad state stuff (unless you played a mod).

This happen every time using Protoss Dark Archon to capture Terran SCV. It does not happen immediately but after some then the error occur. I am playing melee.

This is an AI issue. Something about a NULL AI town pointer.
The trigger is the wait_build opcode as the AIScript thread is being executed.

Too technically.

What can I do to avoid this problem.

Thank you.

From this article:
0x09 - wait_build - Wait until computer commands %1(byte) %2(building)
Although I can't see why it would crash when you described, since as Heinermann said it's an AI issue.
There's not a whole lot you can really do about it in melee, AFAIK.

It shouldn't really happen at all. Does it only occur on one map? Are you running any mods?

Sep 4 2011, 5:50 pm Popopu Post #93

The map crashes almost instantly after game start. Can you take a look at this?
edit-after more testing, the map actually crashes at random times (i was able to get in half an hour of gameplay at least before crash) and i've no idea why.

Make sure you are not running any hacks and don't have any modified files. Check for extended units in the map.

I'm emulating SC on FreeBSD i386 with Wine 0.9.14. It crashes when I leave a game, not even showing the stat screen. I was hoping you could provide some symbols for the addresses; I don't think trying to port BWAPI in this environment would be easy.

004BDB81 - not known (something to do with "lightHandle" (incorrectly named? not sure), apparently a bad reference to this is causing the crash)
0041E468 - not known (iterates through a 26-index palette, calls the function of 004BDB81 for each one (a callback))
004DDB31 - I called "registerMenuFunctions" but it appears to be doing a lot more than that, initializing the menu dialog and colours

This happened right at the start of my map, which is on Ash tileset and is disabling doodad on the Ursadon and also the mutalisk to cloak it. If you could confirm which of the Ursadon or Mutalisk that caused the crash, that would be helpful. Note that the cloaking is taking affect off-screen in an area of the map that P1 has no vision to.

SDE, BWAPI owner, hacker.

It's hard to tell since it's not actually playing with a unit type, or units at all.

I can tell you that the GRP file has this information:

Statistics:
- GRP has Less than 170054 bytes of data (166 KB)
- GRP Width: 92 pixels
- Sprite X position + Image Horizontal offset = 3296 (tile 103)

Reasoning:
- Both graphics are less than 166 KB, can't determine with this
- Since Mutalisk's GRP is 128x128 and Ursadon's is 96x96 then we can assume that it is the Ursadon that caused the crash.
- Don't have unit positions so can't make any assumptions

Dec 2 2011, 9:08 am Lanthanide Post #100

Thanks Heinermann, I'd say that's the ursadon that's doing it. At the moment that set of triggers kicks off straight after the game starts, do you think delaying it for 5 game seconds will make any difference to the crash? Probably hard for you to answer, but any insights would be helpful.

I've observed this crash on maybe 3-5% of game starts, so by far most of the time it works without any problems.
