As you can read in this thread here:
http://www.staredit.net/topic/13855/ - also post suggestions there please.
I hope it's not a problem that I keep this thread for status updates, screenshot's and later, balance issues/bugs.
In brief: Three hero types, 45 abilities, 20 quests, epic story line with over 60 items.
I'll put down the screenshot's for now and edit this post in the very near future.

Looks cool, hopefully the name will be different on release ;0
Red classic.
"In short, their absurdities are so extreme that it is painful even to quote them."
Quick update:
Terrain +5% - Added the first 'region'. Screenshot added to OP under Terrain and Visuals (duh)... Mountainous cave area to the north-east of the starting outpost. Will be home to 2 of the 20 quests and a possible secret item/area/boss
...
Also I made the progress bars look cool as shit.
None.
Quick update:
- Abilities +2
- added Time Orb ability for the Mage which slows incoming projectiles and units for a set duration.
- Added Graviton Ward for the Rogue, which is a spider mine that lifts enemy units into the air, and explodes as they fall back down
- Heroes +1
- completed the second of the three heroes: The Mage
- Skills +5%
- Begun work on the countless upgrades and skill system today also.
Feedback wanted:
What do you think of these tooltips?
I am probably going to add colour to differentiate between the value and the attribute, for example:
Cooldown: 18 SecondsDamage: 25 over 4 seconds(but using White and Green maybe. We'll see.

I've published a couple maps over on EU but they're nothing special, just sort of conceptual or time-waster fun type maps.
I have been working on this RPG since Starcraft 2 came out, gradually learning the editor as I go along. I'm now at a comfortable level where I can implement everything I want to, and do it competently so that the map works, looks good and plays nice.
The plan deviated about 3 months ago when I decided I would make this RPG a 'tutorial' map for people to learn SC2 Editing on (by releasing the map, then making tutorials on basically recreating systems and objects in the map). That was a failed idea.
Also, as stated in the OP, the original concept was gear based. But that is being overhauled and it is now skill-tree based.
I do have two other projects in the works too, but they won't be completed any time soon due to lack of knowledge and sheer work load involved.

So. I forgot about this thread - but have been working on the map solidly for the past month or so...
Except the map is corrupted now... Fucking annoying! I usually have incremental saves, eg. Map 0.01, 0.02, 0.03 for each major change, but I had been making a lot of progress in the data editor and foolishly only been hitting ctrl+s and not saving backups... The editor crashed when I was uploading a new model and when I tried to restart the editor it tells me that "Unable to open File (Your StarCraft II installation is corrupt. Would you like to run the Repair tool now?)"... Needless to say the repair did nothing except waste a couple hours of my time. I've filed a support thingy with Blizzard in the hopes that well... y'know "Blizzard do not support the editor" is a lie.
Ahli, Roy, anyone know anything about uncorrupting map filez?
None.
I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.

Is the file size ok?
Try opening the map as an mpq with programs like WinMPQ and try to export stuff.
Then you can try to import the data files into an old version of your map or into a new map file, if the files aren't corrupted.
I've never had a file corrupted due to the editor, but that's what I would try.
