OVERWATCH STATUS GO

From a purely objective standpoint, I have a lot of respect of Bin Laden as I do for Hitler. It is a good and valid comparison as they both really believed that what they were doing was right, and clearly were able to be incredible leaders.

And I think the celebration of Hitler's death was more of a celebration of the end of WW2, and troops coming home. We don't have that luxury now, as this "war against terror" will keep going forever. I wish more Americans understood how impossible it is to defeat the idea of "terrorism."

So.. when he's fighting Russians he's a brave leader, and when he's fighting Americans he's a terrorist.

That's kinda the point. There's a lot of people who have their heart in the right place - or think they do - who are really doing something rather stupid. No one is 100% or 100% righteous.

So it turns out Osama wasn't armed at all. Meaning there was no real reason that the US couldn't have arrested him.

Instead they decided to kill him. Why?

What the fuck makes you think that anyone on SEN has the information regarding the exact circumstances of Osama's death to be able to answer that question?

Why would they want to arrest him? We've been trying to kill him for 10 years.

Does the law say someplace that if there's a known threat they must be armed in order to take action? I figure that since he's a wanted man its a given he's wanted dead.

I find it funny how every single american is cheering and dancing becuse Bin Laden was killed.

I mean, yeah, he commanded the destruction of the twin towers, it's horrible, but... He's dead, just get to something else, no need to create a new national holiday for that... it'd kinda lame to be as happy as that to see someone die.

Yeah, Americans are pretty fucking obnoxious. I've really lost faith in my country after reading all those "YEAH, JAPAN, THAT'S PAYBACK FOR PEARL HARBOR" comments after the earthquake/tsunami.

Simple, because killing him makes Bin Laden a sort of Matyr figure. Arresting him will, for one thing, give political strategy to the US, shut up all the conspiracies and disbelief, and make certain that Bin Laden's figure does not become anymore than it should in the eyes of terrorists..

I remember sm1 here talked about the reasoning before, much better than I did....

Given the responses I've seen here, not all Americans are cheering.

This is a discussion forum where we discuss things. I'm obviously not expecting to get the government's official answer from a random person on SEN. I mean, duh.

Well George Bush originally said "wanted dead or alive". If he's alive, then they can interrogate him for information. They could also try him in a court of law, you know, do things legally instead of acting as judge, jury and executioner.

So I guess you won't mind if everyone on the FBI's most wanted list is simply shot on sight? They're wanted men after all, they must be wanted dead. Who cares about due process, right to trial or anything else. Just kill the scumbags.

Wow, I didn't read anything like that... It's rather huge.

Okay, I meant a huge portion of americans then. But the reactions we saw in the news were rather widespread, everyone cheering and fist pumping...

There's always a fringe of lunatics in any country. The ones in the US seem to get a bit more publicity though.

In the 7.1M earthquake that hit my city last year, on the official stories on CNN most of the comments were from self-righteous American's saying it was God's payback to New Zealand for us being sinners, or something. I do wonder if these sorts of comments are as common on other news media when talking about foreign disasters, eg are there a preponderance of poms saying "haha serves American's right" on the BBC news stories about 300+ dead from tornadoes?

You asked a question to which there is no right answer, no source of information, and as such, any response you may get is as useful as a hobo. You were simply trying to get another anti-American tirade in before dinner.

May 3 2011, 10:42 pm Dungeon-Master Post #58

I'm in Quebec, and I never ever saw anyone in the news openly saying "Serves them well" when disasters happens anywhere in the world.

I guess that the american, or at least English medias since you named CNN, are a bit more sensationalists.

Edit : Cent, didn't you ever said something like : When will that rain stop!?

Did anyone jumped at you saying : YOU STUPID DUMBASS, HOW CAN ANYONE KNOW THAT?

Arresting him and sending him to death (a la Saddam Hussein) or imprisoning him for life will also make him a martyr figure. No matter what, his followers will see him as a martyr.

I've read a few different articles talking about how guns were being fired from the compound at the helicopters and Navy SEALS, so first off I'll assume that he either was armed or surrounded by people who were. That said, I didn't mean to make it seem like I agree with the idea of him being killed and not tried, I was just saying that this has been a decade-long headhunt. I was under the impression all this time that the point was to find and kill him for good ol' American vengeance rather than send him to prison and give him a lethal injection.
