Not a big fan of the test, to be honest. Sometimes I put a mark in the middle because both things were stupid and sometimes because both were accurate. I got INFP but that's nowhere near true, INTP portrait fits me much better, though there are some NF qualities that I share.

First question: I really enjoy comforting other people who feel hurt or upset against I really enjoy forming my own explanations of how things work
What?
How am I supposed to choose between those? They're completely unrelated things! (Both of which are amazingawesome)

I usually turn up INTP on tests, though a couple of times I've gotten... INTJ? Maybe INFP. Don't recall.
The descriptions that are given for the different categories annoy me, because often, depending on how I interpret them, they could sound accurate both as they are and completely reversed.

edit: 'kay, these questions are retarded. All but like, three out of twelve I've pretty much had to flip a coin on.

This test might predict your "workplace" personality better. Honestly I can't see you as an INFP, though they're not that dissimilar to INTP and have an identical secondary function (Ne). (@FaZ)

It is usually one of the flaws of these tests. It is hard to choose the 'best' without seeming neutral when really what you're saying is 'all of the above.'

I've noticed that studying business has changed the way I look at things, and I think that's why my profile changed. I think that the one thing business stresses is taking calculated risks - there is a time and place for everything. But usually, given no background or analysis of the environment, the only way to proceed is to follow the guidelines set in place. So since there is, in terms of the test, no reason to change the rules why should you? Change is costly. It is very time consuming, even if there isn't any resistance. It is completely unnecessary unless something tips you off - such as metrics set up by your QTM...which isn't even mentioned in the test.

So in most questions I found the answer on both ends to be "yes." Yes, long term objectives are important, and I see the idea behind that is that they are more theoretical, but in order to achieve long term objectives you must follow the operational level, functional tactics that are typically much more mechanistic.

That was a rant.

Yeah, but this seems to be one of the worse cases I've seen.
Usually there are at least a few questions where I can give a confident, if not highly polarized, answer.

I attribute the high ISTP rating to poor questions. I'm an INTP.

D: Most of these things are things I don't care about. Why does it force me to lean one way or the other?

xD All of the Introversion are >50%, all of the Extroversion are <50%.

Collapsable Box

Looking at the overview statements for the whole row that is ~75%, I'd say all of them somewhat apply to me (which is probably why they are all so close :P).
INTP is what I always get (iirc), so I'll go with that.

Meh...
A person's disposition hardly tells us anything in terms of how they would act or what they would think
a much, MUCH bigger factor is the power of the situation

Also, with Cold Reading being ever so prevalent, I can hardly say that these things are relevant.
Altho, answering these questions have made me think about myself and my behaviours a bit, which is always good :)

Things u probably don't want to hear

The reason why this is so persuasive is also because of the hugely ambiguous categories. The more ambiguous they are, the more schemas you can activate to confirm with these classifications.

All in all, yes, it is a bunch of huge BS.
It tells me things I already knew ... like I am largely introverted. :awesome:

These things are mostly for fun. It's when companies start using them as part of their hiring process (they do) that it becomes a problem.

UnholyUrine is right - all tests like this exhibit the Forer Effect to some extent. Also, this sort of test is supposed to indicate your sort of "native" preference for cognitive functions. The 4 letter code is often misleading and the theory is more complex (but not much).

Let's break down INTP, which a lot of us got in our results. Basically, according to the theory of psychology behind this kind of test, everyone has preferences in two main areas - Perception and Judgement.

There are two types of perception: Sensing (S), and "Intuition" (N)
There are two types of judgement: Feeling (F), and Thinking (T)

These functions can be further modified by the letters E and I, which dictate whether the function is concerned mainly with the external world, or a person's own internal world.

The letters P and J simply tell us whether a person uses a perceiving function when dealing with the external world, or a judging one.

So, INTP:

Dominant Function: Introverted Thinking (Ti)
Secondary Function (governed by the "P") Extroverted Intuition: (Ne)
Tertiary Function: Introverted Sensing (Si)
Inferior Function: Extroverted Feeling (Fe)

That basically goes from strongest to weakest, and they all interact with one another. Often the dominant function will attempt to make up for or smother the weaknesses in the inferior function, for example, and the secondary function plays the role of feeding information to the dominant one for processing.

In INTP, Fe is the inferior function. Practically speaking, this means that the kind of situations a person will have the least preference for are social situations where they have to empathise and adhere to social norms. If placed in a social situation the person will likely resist using Fe and instead rely on Ti, and probably come across as slow and awkward. If this person feels way out of their comfort zone then they're probably being forced to use Fe. Where Fe does tend to express itself spontaneously is when Ti can't deal with something effectively and rationalise it - this leads to sudden outbursts of rage and emotion which are otherwise out of character. An example could be the breakup of a relationship.

But no, it isn't good psychology. It is interesting though.
