Just here for the pie

The party don't start til I walk in.

'Parties' don't always have to involve alcohol and dancing and other stuff to be fun. One of the funnest things I've done ever was just go to a Wal-Mart with a bunch of other people. We fooled around and eventually got kicked out (which actually did involve dancing). Fucking win, and I don't get why people need the assistance of alcohol to have a good time. I'd consider that a party.

Hell son I go to Wal-Mart in the middle of the night for some epic impulse buying. That isn't a party.

I've been to many house parties. It's just drinking and smoking weed. I don't drink or smoke so I'm just usually talking to one of my high/drunk friends. Gets pretty irritating so I stopped going to parties.

No doubt this is too late, and I'm not the best person to go to for this kind of advice, but:

Use a little alcohol as a loosener (not of your bowels, let's hope it doesn't go that far)
Talk to people

I haven't actually been invited to a normal person party in the near future, nor do I expect to be.

Win by luck, lose by skill.

Also, some party don'ts:

DO NOT:
- Get so hammered that you talk a load of BS.
- Dance if you can't. (If you're not sure if you can - you can't)
- More to follow.

None.

An artist's depiction of an Extended Unit Death

Teen parties usually consist of music and drinking, and I find them boring. If you can strike up a conversation with someone, it makes it a bit more worthwhile, but you don't really need a party for such an encounter.

WHOA NELLY, SLOW DOWN THERE FELLA. Clearly you've never been to a party. Dancing is required.

Some people do not like it, but others will find it amusing when you forcefully enter yourself into a random group's conversation. Keep in mind, I am a shameless individual, and never feel awkward.
I hate people like you :|
Yeah, I try not to act like an asshole whilst doing so, but it is hard..

Also, dancing is awesome! -Especially at parties. Heck, I love to just groove in my spare time.

Dungeon Master

PROTIP: If you're at a party where you can't be yourself, maybe you shouldn't be there in the first place.

A party is what YOU make a party. Be yourself, have fun. If parties aren't fun to you, redefine them. Just because your definition of 'party' is the one used by battle.net 2.0 doesn't mean you cannot have a good time!

Typical college parties that I'm at tend to be very dependent on how many people are there. This also tends to correlate with how late in the night it is.

Smaller groups like 4-8 are usually just cards or a trivia/board game, usually turned into some sort of drinking variant and is often only couples/roommates. This is usually a pre-gaming kind of thing.

Bigger parties with 10-20 people tend to be a table for beer pong with everyone else socializing or maybe a card game, usually Kings, going on. Everyone else, being pretty drunk, tend to be very talkative.

If it's a chill party, later in the night people kind of segregate off with either whoever they came with or people they met and just chat because no one's drinking any more. If you're with people who have no idea how to drink they'll just keep drinking until someone pukes/passes out and then the night ends in a hurry.

This seems to be pretty consistent, I visit friends from different schools and hang out with different groups all the time. Dance parties are usually just for the slutty girls that can't hold a conversation and the guys that are too dumb to think of anything except who they'll end up with at the end of the night. So I can't say I have much experience with those and would rather actually talk to people. If you're with a decent group that mostly knows each other it can be fun for a change to go out to a club or have a DJ blasting music. If everyone looks like an idiot dancing, no one cares if you do too. Don't be self-critical and just have fun.

I'm one of the shyest kids I know but at parties where I don't know anyone I have no problem striking up a conversation with random people or groups that seem interesting as long as I'm not dead sober. Shying away from alcohol really isn't a good decision if you want to be "normal," drinking is simply how normal adolescent society operates. You don't have to get trashed and black out to have a good time and be drunk, and if your excuse is that alcohol tastes bad you haven't experimented enough.

NOTE: This advice works for people who understand how to operate in the real world, have socially acceptable interests, and can hold conversations without seeming bored or obnoxious. A good portion of SEN probably fails in one or all of these areas.
