If I could get a dedicated map creator I would be willing to execute this idea.

So, I don't map for SC2 but I figured there might be someone motivated that enjoyed having their melee maps played by high level players that would want to give this a shot. There was also talk about potentially procedurally generating maps, which I'm not sure is possible given the SC2 editor. Hopefully someone steps up, this seems like it would be interesting if nothing else.

Feel free to post there or if you don't want to make a Reddit account just reply here and I'll forward your info to the topic creator and Diggity.

This was a lot more viable in StarCraft 1. In StarCraft 2, the minimap by default shows you everything when you play a melee game, it's just fogged over. So a player could simply study the map in the first few minutes of the game and essentially relate it to a standard melee map. Then they'd determine what strategy is most efficient given the terrain. It doesn't really reward creative players, it really just rewards players who know the game well.
I agree it would be interesting in concept, I had thought to submit the same as a challenge for TeamLiquid's Pros vs. Joes thing, but I just don't think it would be very different from a spectator's point of view except to marvel at the different maps.
In UMS you can disable the minimap and stuff. I would do it but I don't have a decent enough computer.

Red classic.

Yeah I realized that after the other person responded. I was under the impression that it'd have to be played in a melee setting for some reason which is obviously not true.

This intrigues me. Procedural generalation of ANYTHING does, actually.

Minecraft more!

OT: While an interesting concept, also would be horribly broken with the way the game currently functions balance-wise.

Well, they ended up doing this once. Really not too big of a deal, the mapmaker just didn't do a basic siege tank range test on the naturals so Terran was pretty OP. The scouting wasn't an issue though, it made the game pretty interesting.
