Just here for the pie

Introduction
Remember the 2009 Last Stand RPG Challenge? It claimed to be the final stand in SC 1 mapmaking but, as I am bored, I declare this the 'final bang'.

Specifications
  • Entries must be classified as RPGs, beyond that it must be a story driven map.
  • There is no specific theme required to adhere to.
  • There is no regulation on the number of players a map can have.
  • Maps must meet quality standards (regulated by me) to merit validation.
  • RPGs currently in production are valid for submission, so long as the bulk of the work is done in 2011.
  • Mapping teams are allowed with a maximum of two people per team.
  • Participators are allowed multiple submissions.
  • Mod supplemented maps are allowed; all judging, however, should be on the actual RPG aspects of the map, rather than the mod itself.
  • We encourage all who feel up to the challenge to participate.

Deadline
The 2011 RPG Challenge is a year long competition, all submissions must be in by 11:59pm December 31st 2011 in order to qualify. The extensive timeline was set to encourage quality work put into each map, and to appeal to those who only have time at specific times during the year. You can join in on the competition at any time.

Judging
Judging will be entirely done by the community unless proper judges can be found. There will also be some specific prizes other than just the best overall RPG.

Last Words
This thing is going to be as awesome as the first RPG challenge, so hop on board early on. If you plan to participate just post and, if possible, provide the name of the project you plan to work on. Also, the partnership limit is flexible if there's enough weight behind raising it.

I wish I could say I'd restart working on Ygg:ToG, but I lost all motivation to work on sc1 maps. :(

You don't have to participate with a map (though I wish you would :(). Mineral donations are always welcome too :).

Back* from the grave

If I could find my SC1 and install it, I could participate, but I don't have it on my laptop. :ermm:

If you have your CD key then you can go on battle.net and register it for a downloadable copy of StarCraft.

The sword and the faith

I pledge myself to this contest, even if all that results from me is a 5 minute long 64x64 micro-RPG.

I's going to donate at least 20 minerals to this, do I send it to you inferno?

Don't know if I'll actually enter, too busy with everything else going on in my life ATM. The rules don't seem to say anything about using a project started before now, is it ok if I used some stuff from an unfinished RPG I have?

Was the bulk of the work done in 2009? Inferno, you should probably change this to 2011. ;)

I'll be sure to enter as well. My entry will probably be called Electrodrome. Is there a limit to the amount of submissions from individual entrants (not in a team)?

None.

Temple Siege was my "final bang"... srsly...

Despite that, I will join, as I've never made an RPG, and have sm ideas floating around
And SC2's editor is too convoluted in the meantime for me to understand.

I shall donate 50 minerals. =D

Why would someone make anything in Broodwar? That's like using dos to code a program!!! Eeeek!

Because a lot of us have realized the StarCraft II isn't that great. Brood War is kinda a classic.

Dec 31 2010, 2:05 am Ghoustine Post #16

I personally hate Starcraft II. The graphics make my poor little super-glued-graphics-card lag terribly. And it will be years before melee is balanced. Too much time was spent modeling graphics; I prefer two dimensional art in most instances.

But the editor is far superior. Once you get your mind wrapped around how the editor works, you can instantly transfer your ideas onto the canvas.

You are stuck writing in crayon. I am writing in fine pencil; very fine pencil.

You don't use DOS to code. DOS is an operating system, not a language or API. Also, BroodWar and the things it can do are actually pretty advanced considering how old it is, and it's a lot easier to make maps with than StarCraft II.

EDIT
Also, the editor is superior but it's way too complicated for what it is and is severely limited compared to an actual game editor, eg UDK. It's far from a fine pencil, it's just a basic HB.

Yes, send the minerals to me but only near when the contest is done (I can't trust myself around magic boxes). Until then hold on to your amounts donated.

Fixed. Also, I don't think multiple submissions should be frowned upon, so feel free.

I'll make one when someone makes me a proper open source Starcraft port and bnet. :massimo:

Edit: Or else someone pays me. :awesome:

Well whatever. Here, have my minerals. :wut:
