X-Mas Gifts

:payne:

For X-Mas, I told everyone I wouldn't give them shit and they shouldn't give me shit 'cause I'd be mad.
My reason? I want to stop stimulating the economy during holidays. Out of them all, X-Mas is probably the worst: it just became a tool for the capitalism to force in children's mind that in our current world, they can (and should?!) create themselves needs.

I remember all those years where I'd be sitting in front of my list asking myself "What do I want?". It really should've been "What do I need?"...

What do you guys think about this?

You're a weenie.

Christmas is a holiday that stimulates the economy, lets people spoil themselves a bit, and brings magic into drab lives. It gives children something to look forward to for an entire year, and it makes people feel good as they give each other gifts.

>be faceless void >mfw I have no face

From an economic point of view: All people can get by with just the bare minimum: what they need. However, many billions of people have enough capital left over after being the needs to be able to buy wants. Many of those billions decide to buy those wants at Christmas, for their children, friends, and family.

Red classic.

You can do it whenever you want. If you're referencing to the break-day itself, I'm okay with that.

If we've sunk that low that people feel better when they buy stuff (which I know we have) and you're happy with that, I'm sorry for you.

Why do they even need this? And anyways, they already look forward their goddamn stupid birthday.

I wouldn't call tihs "giving gifts" when you're waiting for something in return, which probably most of the people do.

Those left-overs should be spread among the ones that don't have that bare minimum at the very least, and then given back to the original owners.

You just don't have the Christmas spirit....

Why should the left overs be given out? People work hard for those leftovers to spend on themselves. What right do you have to tell them that they have to give it to other people less fortunate or less-skilled or less-motivated than themselves?

Some work hard, but the people that gets fucking paid 40,000$ per minute to do I-don't-know-what-but-I-could-do-it-too should fucking be subject to this thought.
Moreover, while some -do- work hard, I'm pretty sure we can consider some people in China, Africa, or I-dunno-where-else work even harder for like 10 times less...
This bullshit ain't workin' da payne! :hurr:

Because when economy is stimulated, people think the current economical system (capitalism) is awesome.

If people stopped stimulating the economy, there'd be Krash all around and people would eventually end up thinking capitalism is bad. :awesome:

At this point, your argument rests on communism being practically superior to capitalism, which I disagree with (socialism ftw).

Not a great way to position yourself :P

Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year.

While some of the rampant commercialism gets disgusting, the idea behind Christmas is a time for giving gifts. It's a time for being with family, taking a day off, and yes, giving gifts. If you find it objectionable to give gifts to people who aren't starving, by all means spend your Christmas giving gifts to those who can't afford them. Give simple, cheap toys to poor children and it will make them happy.

Christmas is about giving. Most of us choose to spend the day giving to our family, friends, and loved ones, to remind them how much we care (for me, some of the greatest gifts are handwritten cards). Not sure what else to say.

I've tried to join some volunteering programs to know if there was anything going on during X-Mas, they told me there wasn't, unfortunately. However, the 23th, I'm going to be serving food to teenagers-hobos. I've also convinced some friends and my sister to come with me. :)

Anyways, my point is that I find it pretty retarded that people believe so hard they are giving all those gifts out of good-heart. They could've done it whenever all through the year, but no, they had to be given a specific date on which they'd be forced to give to others. A gift given at X-Mas should be 100 times less valuable then one given at any other time in the year... yet people see it as the exact opposite.

Hey Centreri, last time we had this discussion, you said that Fiscal quarters weren't seasonally adjusted, and now you say it is. :O

Also Payne, stop trying so hard. You just look stupid. If you don't want to indoctrinate the need to buy gifts - that's fine. But saying you won't do it because it stimulates the economy? Honestly...that's stupid. Really stupid. Would you buy gifts if the prices were fixed and production was done by communes? Last I checked, communists needed economic growth, too.

Payne, who says that people hand out gifts out of the selfless good of their hearts? No one. But they hand out gifts, everyone feels wonderful because they got a gift, and what else is there to it? It's a large break from people saving their money and generally being thrifty. If you want to waste your money to give random people gifts throughout the year that they probably don't need/want, go ahead. Whining about Christmas... I just don't know what else to say, really. You have a small point, but it's reaallly tiny.

Kame, lolwut? :wut:

Actually I do give people small gifts throughout the year. :\ It makes me feel good to give people things. And I probably am not buying a lot of gifts this year, I'm making them.

You're a weenie fag.

fix'd 2 meet personal req's

I spend the majority of my 365.25 days of the year waiting for Christmas because it's one of the only times I can get something that I want.

If one already has all of the requirements met for the majority of the year, why not wonder about one wants for a single day?

Because there are people out there who didn't bother working hard and thus lead a shitty life? That's the consequence of not working.
I won't do anything for these people. Maybe, somewhere in my soul, I'll have the mercy of at least providing them what they need to live at least without any cruel and unusual suffering; but my opinion is that they have resigned themselves to failure.

Because there are people out there who work hard but still lead a shitty life? That's the consequence an unfortunate fate.
Maybe I'll give them a piece of the pie when I can, but as it is, I have nothing to give but my pity. Maybe I'll donate some things anyway if I ever manage to become self-sustainable. Until then, I'll worry about myself.
As it is, my needs are quite low. I'd be willing to donate the majority of my extra income (once I have it) to those in need and deserve something extra.
But I'm not going to do any of that until I can resolve my own issues and acquire self-sustainability.

Also, Christmas carries little other meaning than a single moment in time during which I just about choose and acquire one thing that I want.

I'll restate a quotation of yours to further express my contempt for your present manner of debate:
Quote
</mindless false radicalist with retarded theories>

Also, what's wrong with Christmas?
You're trying way too hard. As it is, you're trying to do something about a tool (Christmas), when really, you should be doing something about that which uses the tool (capitalism), which you also claim to be inherently bad. Considering the concepts behind Christmas, it appears that it is inherently socialist and altruistic. You're probably doing disfavour by not supporting Christmas.

Responsible for my own happiness? I can't even be responsible for my own breakfast

  • You are on the internet, which means your basic needs have been met.
  • Any effort or resources expended after this point are "left-overs."
  • Left-overs should be distributed to those who do not have the bare minimum for survival.

Conclusion: You should be out helping the poor instead of posting stupid topics.

All of you disagreeing with payne are pigdog lackeys of the bourgeois capitalist system. When the glorious vanguard of the revolution grinds the system into dust and creates order from chaos, then you capitalist running dogs will be the first to feel the firm arm of the People's Commisariat. Christmas will be consigned to the dustbin of history.
