The sword and the faith

@IP
Hate Pierce The Veil.

Brand New's work on TDAG and Daisy are actually some of the best songs in my library. You obviously haven't heard tracks like Sink, You Wont Know, and Gasoline.

Lydia is probably my favorite band at the moment and is extremely awesome.

I'd also bet a testicle that you'd like at least one Envy On The Coast song but their work on Lowcountry would be a lot more your style than Lucy Gray. Or so I think.

Brand New - You Won't Know is alright. The other two almost make me feel they tried to make a crossover with punk/post-hardcore and trash metal/rock. It's bad.
Envy On The Coast is also pretty good, yeah. But I'm knocking ya for Brand New and Taking Back Sunday.
Our music is pretty intertwined under punk / metalcore / post-hardcore / emo. Pretty sure you can get into the harder stuff. Definitely don't understand why you hate it.

The sword and the faith

Well the song you posted was just horrible. I just didn't like, well, ANYTHING about it.

The effect on his voice, and his voice itself totally put me off, and I'm big on vocals and lyrics. Those are my top considerations when deciding if I like something. A lot of the harder bands get into that whole OMG HARDCORE BREAKDOWN QUICK EVERYONE STRUM REALLY HARD thing which I cannot stand for a second, and then the vocals are all screaming and no singing, and as a result lyrical quality suffers since it goes to 'Well we're just screaming unintelligible noise anyway so it doesn't matter if our lyrics suck.'

Eyes set to kill is a bad band and YOU should feel bad. ADTR used to be good. I used to suggest when someone made that suggest music thread(s?). Homecoming album sucks ;_;.

Brand New... metal

Dude, what? Nothing that shit band has ever done has ever been remotely close to being related to Metal. Horrid comparison.

I didn't say brand new was metal, but the tracks gasoline and sink definitely remind me of trash metal, thus i said punk / post-hardcore crossover with trash metal / rock.

Cent... Lily Allen......... .... .. ..?

Great albums are crafted by the band in a way to be listened to in their entirety. Usually, if a band is good, they aren't going to put crappy songs on an album. Even if there is a song or two that you personally do not care for for whatever reason, there is a skip button on your CD, or a FF button on your tape player, or a Up/Down button on your turntable so it shouldn't be that big of an issue. "Best Of" albums are nothing more than cash-grabs (attempts to do nothing but increased profits) and they're an invention of the record label, and not the band itself. (And on a side note, they usually don't even have the best songs on them - ironically enough - but rather just the radio singles quality or not.)
Pink Floyd, period.
I just felt that it was much better to list different artists so you guys can find something new, instead of listing 9 albums of the same artist. >_>

/agree.
I like to hear a melody, and if possible, a harmony, in the music I listen to. Throw in a sprinkling of percussion, maybe a good solo of some sort, a voice that can sing well, and if the bands really ambitious, dynamics. Some bands just sound like static, especially when people start to scream.

And Norm, take a chill pill.

What the hell is trash metal!?

Do you mean THRASH? No, that band will never be anywhere close to it.

That's thrash.

That's thrash.

That's thrash.

Thrash again.

Furthermore, Thrash Metal and Rock n Roll do not belong in the same sentence together when describing any crappy band's sound. Ever.

In addition, do you even know what crossover is? Because brand new will - in addition to never sounding anywhere close to metal - never be crossover either. The word crossover also doesn't belong anywhere close to the cringe-worthy genre 'post-hardcore' as you call it.

Nov 4 2010, 4:09 am Forsaken Archer Post #34

Just saying, the vocals very much reminded me as trash metal and I was saying it sounded like a shit attempt, ie, WTF IS THAT.

Though, my definition of trash metal may be off, since I never go anywhere near trash metal, there's this one band in particular those songs remind me of, and I simply classified it as trash metal.

And I loosely refer to bands/songs/genres that blend with other genres as a crossover, such as nu metal.

Norm, can you play music, or do you just think that you've been bestowed with some kind of mystical absolute sense of what music is good and what isn't?

Actually, same question for everyone who goes around telling people that they "suck at music" because they have different tastes.

If everyone who could play music could sense what music was good and what wasn't, there wouldn't be such thing as bad music. C'mon, think with your head Fatal...

@Dude, Payne. You listed a "cash grabbest of" album. Don't even act like you're in any position to talk.
You dodged my question. Put up or shut up.

I played in the band during grade school.
Currently saving up for a new bass as well.

No matter what I do or no not play, it's irrelevant because

The only truly bad music is poorly played music. As such, most professional musicians produce good music. Stop confusing your opinion on what music you like and the facts of what music is good. It's extremely obnoxious.

And Thrash. Thrash is also truly bad music. Just because someone likes it doesn't mean it's good.
