Like the title says, I'm trying to put together a good collection of classic literature. I'm trying to get some good religious, philosophical and historical works (started with books I got for college courses that I wanted to keep or couldn't sell back to the bookstore for whatever reason). Figure I'd post here to see if anyone had any serious suggestions.

Here's what I have so far:

Gilgamesh*
Confucius - The Analects*
Marcus Aurelius - Meditations*
Plutarch - Fall of the Roman Republic*
Plutarch - The Age of Alexander*
Plutarch - The Life of Alexander the Great*
Plato - Trial and Death of Socrates*
Thucydides - History of the Peloponnesian War*
Herodotus - The Histories*
Homer - The Iliad*
Homer - The Odyssey*
Vergil - The Aeneid*
Sun Tzu - Art of War*
Holy Bible - New International Version* (DUH!)
John Walton - Ancient Near Eastern Thought and the Old Testament*
LaSor/Hubbard/Bush - Old Testament Survey*
Song of Roland*
Chronicles of the Crusades*
Niccolo Machiavelli - The Prince*
Islam Quran
Zoroastrian Gathas
Corpus Juris Civilis/Codex Justinianus
Augustine - City of God
Augustine - Confessions
Rule of St. Benedict
John Milton - Paradise Lost
John Milton - Paradise Regained
Caeser - Conquest of Gaul
Adrian Goldsworthy - Punic Wars
Adrian Goldsworthy - Roman Warfare
Luo Guanzhong - Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Tolkien - The Lord of the Rings*
Tolkien - The Hobbit*
Doyle - The Best of Sherlock Holmes*
Karen Armstrong - The Buddha*
Procopius - History of the Wars of Justinian I - The Gothic Wars
Procopius - History of the Wars of Justinian II - The Vandalic Wars
Procopius - History of the Wars of Justinian III - The Persian Wars
Procopius - The Secret History
Dante - Divine Comedy
Vinland Saga*

(* == What I already have)

Also, curses! SEN doesn't have collapsing spoiler tags! And please don't suggest the Kama Sutra. >_>

George Orwell - 1984
Ken Kesey - One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

and BTW you should be aware that Machiavelli's "The Prince" was actually completely sarcastic, and most of his writings were in support of a republic.

Lord of the Flies.

Red classic.

"In short, their absurdities are so extreme that it is painful even to quote them."

I got it for class, and we haven't read it, yet.
