I clicked compress and it just flat out stopped working.

I'd also like an answer.
Is the player a human, computer, neutral, or what? Can you post the map?

Except there is no "Compress" button. ;o

EDIT:
Ok, I figured out the problems.
P1 Fog of War ... For the Fog of War masking I did I forgot to do <<= instead of << ... So it wasn't doing anything BUT clearing Player 1's Fog of War.

For wrong MBRF counts I was reading from the wrong variable (how any map worked at all with briefing sounds is now a mystery.)

I'll test that second map that you posted and make sure that the first map works now, then I'll upload a new version.

EDIT2:
Oh. The error that pops up means exactly what it says ... :P
If you open the map in a MPQ viewer there is four files: (listfile), ~unknowns\unknown_00000090, ~unknowns\unknown_000001b1, and staredit\scenario.chk. Those unknowns are files that weren't properly deleted, and are therefore not referenced at all by anything. TinyMap doesn't know what to do with them because it can't tell what they are (I looked at them and know they are wavs ... and I guessed the filenames because they are the same as your other map's. :P)

If you make a txt file that contains the following:
Code
staredit\wav\BriefingSound.wav
staredit\wav\InGameSound.wav

Then add it to the listfiles in the Options menu, it will load that map. Or you can just open the map with WinMPQ and delete them. (I probably should have added a button in that dialog to proceed anyway ... :P But it apparently hasn't been much of a problem.)

EDIT(moar):
Ok, please confirm that Fog of War and MBRF WAV count is fixed. :)
(Sorry for the long time I ignored this ... I'm lazy. :P)

Here's my map. It did not compress, and I hope for it to do so because I'm remaking it, so I need to know how to make it a quick download. I do not speak any advanced form of the English language, either... So make it understandable for my limited knowledge to understand. If possible for anyone to help me in this matter, Thank you.

I can produce video/screenshot evidence relatively quickly if needed.

Lyoko - Are you running Windows 7 or Vista? Have you previously compressed this map, or older versions of it, without issue, but now it doesn't do anything at all? Does it create a file with 0 bytes, or small number of bytes than expected (equal to the size of the wave files) that SC cannot recognise as a valid map? Does the compression stats box fail to pop-out when you save the map?

If you answered yes to any of the above problems, try running TinyMap on some other maps that you have, like standard Blizzard ones or whatever. Just compress 3 or 4 different ones, then close the program and start it again. Then try compressing your map, it might just work.

I had all of the above problems, and it appears to be a general problem with Vista/W7 when running old programs designed for XP, where the programs seem to somehow accumulate crap somewhere in the system that prevents them from working normally. In my case, just compressing some different maps, then going back to my map, cleared out the accumulated crap and fixed the issue.

SDE, BWAPI owner, hacker.

Is there a way for you to apply the MPQ block size increase for a significant compression ratio boost?

Yeah, actually it was the original wav example, but TM2 didn't like something about it, so I deleted everything (through Scmd2, not WinMPQ, so it wasn't as thorough on the wav files) and posted it as a broken map.

Alright, as far as I can tell the P1 fog issue is fixed, I managed to keep the giant penis in the test map I check it out with.

However, now I've got an enormous nasty crash.

I've got a version with the .wav files stripped that it seems to handle just fine.

My new sounds for this version are bigger than the old ones but already 16bit mono, but I threw that out as an issue by loading the new sounds into an older version of the map compresses fine.

I only have 650 strings, 19kb, mostly switch names.

The map is 1.34mb in full, 282kb without sounds. Could it just be too large for tinymap to handle? That old version with the new sounds is 1.2mb and compresses fine to 955kb.

The only real change in this version is some stacked disabled unit sprites, which could definitely be the issue. Specifically its disabled academies and covert ops for five different players stacked towards the right edge of the map. I'm nowhere near sprite limits though. Maybe its trying to remove what it thinks are duplicate sprites?

String count should matter, unless they are somehow horribly corrupt. Switch names are discarded.
TinyMap can handle maps as large as your system can handle ... RUSH is over 10MB with a ton of sounds, and it compresses.
Sprite coordinates and flags (stacked and being disabled) are properties, and shouldn't cause any problems. There is no such thing as a duplicate sprite, and if even if you can consider something as such, tinymap doesn't remove sprites.

Definitely a corruption issue. Went back a version to one that would compress, redid the changes up to the next version, and without sounds it compresses just fine. Adding sounds for the 'full' version now, and if I don't edit this you can presume it went swimmingly... or killed my computer outright.

Lite: 281kb to 147kb

Full: 1.34mb to 1.06mb

Couldn't do much to my .wavs since they're already at an optimal size. Was hoping for just under 1mb but this is good enough :D

Can't you make a debug version or something that I could run and it would make a log where it crashed out so you could fix this issue or something?

Well you could add some sort of write-to-file function at some points after you start saving a map (because that's when it crashes out), and it starts writing into the file: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. and see which points inbetween it crashed?

129 KB (135,168 bytes) -> 56 KB (57,344 bytes)
43.41% / 41.68% of original file.

Preliminary data shows that the map still works perfectly fine...

Actually I was wrong, I have the 64-bit version. Lol.

This is what the files have where I would like to save them. Every last file has this in the new scx. Nothing more. Also, the Blizzard map thingy override did not work for me, it just makes my TinyMap2 crash faster.

Does the filesize match that (<1 kb)? It's a binary file, so I don't know how text editors (or copying it as text) is going to work out.
Also I still don't have Windows 7, so it's hard for me to test this ... Maybe my friend will let me borrow his laptop sometime.
