Blizzard sent a representative to Op Hacker who then proceeded to close (all of?) Myst and Frost's accounts, as well as add an IP Ban.
Clearly not an initiative on their part, as they did not attempt to ask or find out how the exploit was being done.
I only hope that they do know what's happening, but for some reason I find it hard to imagine.
The representative is currently there now, as shown with /who and 0 users in the channel.
o.o that's pretty epic. that's the first time i've ever heard blizzard wtfpwn someone on bnet.
Just here for the activity... well not really
Is the CD-Key theft StarCraft specific? Is it on bots, Diablo II, WC3, etc?

Whelp, I hope that makes them come back, I love to listen to people complain about them.
None.

(Did they catch the representative's CD-key?
)
None.

- How long does a hacker need to get your key when you're online?
- Does spoofing your name help?
1) Instant. They just have to know you're on, /whois.
2) Not at all. Also, that's more hacks. Exactly what you criticize me for.
That's why I asked. To perform a whois you have to know the username. If it's spoofed you don't know it. Or are there ways to see through the spoof?
I said "change your CD key, then play on iCCup". Because iCCup does not authenticate CD keys, you can just change it to 0000-0000-0123 or something similar, either using a CD key changer or doing it yourself.
I see. Still not very pleasant if someone follows you there and steals this pseudo key since you have to change your key again and can't play on b.net.

Not like that stops them
Ha, that's cool, of course Lotus is right, but at least Blizzard has shown that they will not sit by and let it happen. Gained back some respect after the SC2 debacle.
What do you mean with "not an initiative on their part"? They sent a representative, how can it not be their initiative?
Wait so these guys take away your CD key if you hack? Can't say it's moral or the right thing to do but thats just great. At least he isn't like Zhuiden who tries to make everyone else download hacks as a way to protect yourself against hacks. It's annoying when someone joins your games and drops everyone multiple times and tells you "See! this wouldn't be happening if you had just wised up and gotten hacks! :3333"
tl;dr just to get things straight, you guys are doing chaotic justice?
None.

It's because that's all they did. They didn't fix any exploits, not even server-side. Losing a CD-Key is the least of your concerns considering the buffer overflow mentioned earlier in the topic, among several other exploits.
Hey, the best way to protect yourself against the CD Key Theft is:
1. make a new name that is hard to /whois
2. don't enter public channels (go /join ¤đ× for example)
3. spoof names at all times
4. whatever else precaution you think you should do to remain anonymous at all times
xDDDD...
I'm by NudeRaider in terms of this discussion. I'd say it's immoral and wrong to do this, it's unjustified, and it's really sad that they completely ruin the ability to play for other people just because they can.

Somehow or another frost got his account unbanned and is back online in Op Pirate.
Lol ftw!

Absolutely.
There can be no justification for stealing CD keys. I don't care what hacks are floating around these days. Drophacks have been around a long time, and regardless of anyone deeming their usage fair or unfair in their personal opinion, it does not make abusing another exploit right.
This is nothing more than a bullying tactic, akin to saying 'Don't fuck with me or I'm going to beat you up' like you're all a bunch of internet tough guys.
It doesn't matter if a person drophacks you. All they are doing is delaying your enjoyment of the game. This does not qualify for a CD key being stolen. A CD key is REAL money, and no amount of pestering/harassing on BNet will be equivalent to real money. Just because someone pisses you off doesn't mean you can practically steal their money.
I don't support any hacks, due to falling victim to hacks and "anti-hacks," but if you want to retaliate to a drophacker, just drop hack/spam them. Don't steal their money.
None.
There's no point in arguing cheating ethics. It's pretty clear that stealing a cdkey is wrong, but there's nothing we can do to stop it, and telling everyone that it's wrong won't do anything.
It would be interesting if someone setup a bot system which got the cdkeys of people as they joined the public channels, then created another bot using that cdkey. I suppose it's essentially a cdkey virus. That would certainly get blizzard's attention, and ruin starcraft gaming for a little while.
Then again, it's a 10 year old game. We can't expect blizzard to be able to fix it. Unless of course the people who can hack it can figure out a fix, which is unlikely, since they haven't been given the source code. Sort of reminds me of MS saying "we won't fix this blatant security hole in windows 2000 because it's too hard to fix".

We can do something to stop it: Telling everyone how to prevent CD key theft or at least how to make it more difficult.
And since it seems to rely on /whois there's ways to counter it.
I order you to forgive yourself!
And since it seems to rely on /whois there's ways to counter it.
From what I understood, the /whois thing was only an example that Frost gave. /whois is just a way to know that you are online.
I'm certain they need to know your account name. If you can conceal your account name, you win.
