There's more to experiencing music than just the sound. The way the sound waves come at you and the general atmosphere of where you listen to the music makes a big difference.

:jaff: Agreed, live is best.
I'm probably the biggest fan of music I know. My library has been expanded to just over 300 GB, and I have two thirds of my songs rated and listened to (fully with no interruptions) at least once. (I also found long ago that most f the time, I can't tell the difference in music quality above 320 kbps so most of my music is converted to below this. (Most is at 160kbps, and I don't have any bulky wav's or aiff's on file.)
I also have this desire to get many unknown bands, so much so that most people that browse my playlist can't figure it out, but like most of the music I play. (My playlist consists of me selecting one genre and simply randomizing my five stared songs.)
I don't just have a record player and tape deck, but I also have converted all my music in those formats into digital mp3's.
I spent about a year where everyday I would go down to the library and get an old record, and put it on my computer while listening to it.
I have also bought CD's from other several other countries because the music just isn't sold anywhere in America. (I still sometimes get spam from russian and german amazon.)

I don't collect for collecting sake either, if I don't find at least one song on a CD I like enough to give 4 stars, I remove it from my library.

Lights out, leaning on a causy and warm bed/sofa == the best.

In regard of Rantent's post: I personally have created an "Intelligent playlist" that contains all the 4-stars-and-more-rated named "Bestest of the best" (:P). I classify pretty much any song I encounter, and when I'm lazy/occupied, I start that play-list on random mode and enjoy it :)
I can't remember from which epic rock group's Best Of album's name I took the "Bestest" from, but it was something like The Doors I believe. I can't really find it back because I'm an organization-freak that loves conventions, I have thus classified all the Best-Of albums under the same tag "Best Of: [insert group's name without brackets]".

The types of music I listen to are meant to be heard together as an album, so I never had the need to convert my physically formatted music into digital form. Changing the playlist for me is just changing the album all together.

I admit I some times am ashamed of passing songs like "Untitled 1" from Sigur Ròs without playing the whole album. :/
Same for Pink Floyd. </3

Just Here For The Pie

I used to put all my music on my computer, but I have to reset the thing every couple of months. Re-uploading all the songs got old fast.
Now I keep all my music on my Xbox 360, and, when I play music for background fillings, my friends get annoyed that I will leave one album playing the whole time. I mix it up too. I do not repeat my albums too often unless I am alone.

Some people cannot appreciate an artist's full piece of work.

What are you talking about? Headphones have better quality than speakers.

I like myself some deep and loud bass. My BOSE QC2 headphones have great bass, but they don't come close to a 5-speaker system with a decent sub-woofer. As far as acoustic quality, headphones are slightly better.
