So I am at UC San Diego as a math major. My dorm does not have a television and I cannot afford one.
So any recommendations on a television tuner for my laptop? I can go up to about $125.

Go down to a thrift store and get a $40 CRT. Other than that, you'll have to get a usb one, and I think that hauppauge has sort of a corner on the market. I've got an old PCI one from them and it works. It's not impressive, and the software sucks (I don't have media center), but it gets TV, which is exactly what you would get on a TV. They drop support of old cards, and don't offer media guide services, so it's essentially just like a TV. This sort of thing isn't exactly mission critical like a video card or cpu.
We had to pay for cable at NC State ($100 a semester or so). Shit sucked, but we got like 125 channels, including a few which only played movies.
