If I reboot my computer, does it make it go faster? I have a lot of things in this computer that I don't want to lose. Should I reboot it?

None.

The definition of "reboot" means to turn the computer off and start it up again, also called restarting. I think you mean that you want to format it. Format means wiping the information off the hard drive and installing everything over again.

Anyways, i need to know how lmuch time you've had your computer or when was the last time you formated it to answer your question. If you've had it a long time (more than 1 year) then you should. My computer hasnt been formated in 5 years and Im gonna format it next month. Dont forget to back everything up.

If like Nintendo_Confed is suggesting you mean to reinstall your computer anew : No it would not make your computer faster if you've been careful with it and only have the programs you want running on it. Formating is only to be done in extreme situations when nothing else is possible, because re-installing everything is very troublesome and even with good backups of every important data, drivers and such, there is an important risk of data-loss. If your computer is really slower than what it used to be and has weird bug you should first take it to someone that has experience in computers (A professional or simply a friend) to see if the problem can be fixed easilly. If not only then should you consider having it formated. Unless you perfectly know what you're doing and have the installations files/cd of everything useful that was on your computer you should have it done by a professional.

Dumb-proof part (sorry for even including that) :
If by reboot you simply mean close it then restart it then by all means DO IT!!!!!!!! You should always close your computer when you're done using it for the day! Rebooting a computer can be vital to many program installations and maintenance! You wont lose anything you havent saved by rebooting the computer. Also it isnt supposed to make it faster, but if you really had it open for days it cant hurt!

Formating a computer MAY make it run faster if your computer is full of crap software that slows you down
I would go against formating (you may want to just purchase new hardware)
Some programs to help you out
Auslogics Disk Defrag
ccleaner
regseeker

Also, you can reinstall the OS without formatting. Usually this achieves the same goal, but without deleting your files. I rarely ever reformat drives.

Totally true! With this method your data is completely safe BUT you will still lose every old settings. So make sure you have the installation cds for every part of your computer, or at least for whatever you're using to connect to the internet.

I have to reboot but I don't want to lose my files and my maps. I noticed that when I put music and my files into a flash drive, the quality gets bad. When I put it back into my computer, it either corrupts or sucks butt! So what should I do?

I reboot my computer about every 4 months, I just backup any files I want on an external harddrive, and reformat it, it tends to speed up my computer, and as much as people say you can stop your computer from slowing down, rebooting it will speed it up almost no matter what. With Windows, I've found that you have to reformat every once in a while to keep my computer from doing what every Windows machine does and slowly slow down.

Again, what is the definition of "reboot"? Lol, this ilustrates the fact that no one actually listens to me or reads my entire post(s).

Nintendo_Confed, reboot is used back and forth, I talk to experts and they will say reboot, it doesn't only mean to restart, and if you mean it literally means restart, then they are restarting their computer.

Let's not discuss on what reboot means. You all know what I mean, so stay on topic?
