PROJECT ABANDONED.

Snowball Wars: Frostbite

(Old) Screen Shots

Players: 5v5 (or less)
Map Size: 242x248
Gameplay: You and you team must use micro and macro to shatter your opponents igloos. You gain minerals every 20 kills. Use minerals to upgrade your units, buy heroes, and buy base defence. This is a very skill intensive game. Noobs will meet a swift and painful death.

Basic Units:
Some units can heal at .5 hp per second.
Igloo (bunker): 2010 HP, 20 Armor, Armored Massive; 1 life regen per 20 seconds; Effect: Warm Bodies: the warm bodies generate heat and melt the igloo; too many units near an igloo will cause it to take constant damage.
Long Range Snowball (Ghost): 3 HP, 1+1 Attack, 7 Range, 9.5 Vision, Light Bio; Ability: Snipe (435): Does 2 (+1 to psionic) damage, range of 8.5. cooldown of 60 seconds. Upgrade: Cloak, cost: ?? (a lot)

Quick Snowball (Zergling): 10 HP, 5+1 Attack, 0 Range, Light Bio; Life Regen; Upgrade: Movement Speed, Attack Rate, and the (zealot) charge ability. Ability: Morph to banneling, forms armored egg with more hp. Canceling the egg will kill the zergling.
Snow Mobile (Vulture): 7 HP, 5+1 Attack +5 vs Light, 6 Range, Hoover Armored Mech; Hoover; Proximity Mine: 3 mines per unit, is a spider mine. Upgrade: Gives the vulture 2(?) shields.
Proximity Mine (Spider Mine): 10 HP, 6 Attack +6 vs Light, 3 Range, 4.5 Vision, Light Mech;
Spine Snowball (Hydra): 8 HP, 6+1 Attack +6 vs Armored, 5 Range, Armored; Standard Life Regen; Upgrade: Morph venomous snowball (super baneling) (buy hero venomous snowball to research).

Psi Snowball (Zealot): 15 HP, 15 Shields, 5 Armor, 10+2 (2x) Attack, 1 Range, 6 Vision, Light; 2x Attack
Adv. Snow Melter (Hellion): 21 HP, 10-2 Attack, 3 Range, Normal; Hoover Mech; Uses Terran infantry upgrades

I thought people would keep all of their projects secret to be able to submit them for the Blizzard Contest.
I personally recommend it. ^^

Well 1) There was a huge SW community; I hope to revive it; this topic is one way of informing people that a map is in creation. and 2) Unlike my godly sc1 mapping skills, I have no idea how to map in SC2. and 3) If you follow all my help topics and tutorials, you'll easily figure out I'm making this map.

Anyways, what'd ya think of the terrain in the screenshot?

And do your best so its eligible to Blizzard Contest, really.

You'd think by now there'd be a snowball wars where you ACTUALLY throw snowballs.. rather than have some random units getting in the way :(

I am dissapoint. Sorry. not ur fault

By submitting this map I am granting licensing rights to Blizzard Entertainment, and will not display, post, or share it until after the contest closes on September 11, 2010.*
Is creating a topic on this site considered "displaying the map"? Also, how are we supposed to test the map (uses multiple players) if we can't "share" it w/ others? Also, is there a way to test a map with multiple players w/o publishing and w/o blizzard knowing you shared it?

I'm doing this map for the joy of mapping (and snowball wars); I'll do the contest if I finish by the deadline.

This map utilizes trees and coverage to hide units. However, the "terrain quality" option changes the amount of trees/graphics shown. This gives a player using low quality a huge advantage over a player using ultra quality. Low almost none/no bushes, trees, grass. Medium gives some, and Ultra changes some of the smaller bushes in medium to trees, etc.

How would I make the plant cover equal for all all quality settings, and if possible, how would I reduce the lag if would cause on lower end systems.

1) Consider people playing on Low don't deserve the game.
2) Adjust the map's terrain consequence of Medium or High setting. Set your mind up and stick with it.

Probably stupid recommendations... I wouldn't have cared about this situation, if it was me.

Wait, you can do that? Block out people playing on low? How do I do this? (Cuz I really don't give a shit about people who play on low as well)

I don't think you can. I was saying I did not care about the fact they'd have an easier play. :P

Two New Images. 2 of 3 abandoned facilities. (Honest) feedback would be nice. Any way I could improve either of them (terrain or doodads)?
The top picture is 99% finished, and the bottom is 90% finished.

What are they used for?
They both look not-good, imo.
Probably because you tend to repeat a lot of times the same doodads. :O

Thanks for the honest opinion.
They are just parts of the battlefield, throw in some variation. Anything else I could do other than remove some of the doodads?
I'm trying to use other things to obstruct view since trees don't work on the low graphics. They also help block from melee unit rushes.

:payne:

Put some Deadman's doodads, they look good when well placed. You can set some Barrels and those Boxes that looks like the boxes in Halo.
Once that's done, you can just restrict areas with Pathing if some doodads do not obstruct the movement.

Yay! A fellow snowballer! Also, welcome to SEN. If you give me your sc2 username and code, perhapse you could help me test sometime in the near future.

and at anyone else (admins), why does he have -149 minerals?

OVERWATCH STATUS GO

Maybe Devourer put in something similar to the old mineral system when he added the new system. When members joined SEN, they'd start off with -200 minerals so they'd really have to work to get items. Given how small the minerals per post ratio is, that safeguard seems unnecessary. But that's a topic for another thread. :P

I have been waiting for a Snowball Wars map ever since beta. I was quite the avid Redemption map user, featured in a couple clans with some friends.

Bumrushed the (4)Iceman, gave him the medic, won the game. ;D

I'm certainly down to help test whenever/whatever you need to make Snowball Wars strong once again.
