SDE, BWAPI owner, hacker.

@continuumgaming: Could you post that UMS map?

I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.

It's in his topic. I just tried it and I can confirm the crash.
1. Get much minerals (build a few workers at the nexus and gather).
2. Select a single larva with left mouse clicks and spam a morphing command.
3. SC crashes with an error message

crash in ums map after playing for more than 1 hour. 2 computer player AI (custom and insane). There is no crash only if either AI player is defeated, ot both. Human player actions do not cause crash.

This causes the crash? I have no idea what it means.

My http://www.staredit.net/topic/10922/ map will very rarely crash players on startup, although it does not affect everyone (usually only one to two players crash). I removed the antihack and it still crashes even with no hack on. A sample error file is in my previous post.

How much Memory(RAM) do you have? The error is exactly as it states: Not enough storage is available to process this command.

Jun 13 2010, 6:07 pm TM-Magic Post #50

What command...The only thing we're doing when it crashes is like moving the screen over or clicking on a nexus...I have 8 gb of ram so I doubt sc is using any more than a tiny fraction of that. Anywho, I fixed it but removing some sprites :/ I've never run into this problem before by having too many sprites but idk maybe just too much stuff going on in the map at once or something.

Jun 13 2010, 11:43 pm Heinermann Post #51

SDE, BWAPI owner, hacker.

That error doesn't seem to be map-related, and definitely has nothing to do with sprites or anything else in-game.
Apparently it's crashing during the map transfer in the lobby. A bad call to SMemAlloc (Storm Memory allocation).
There can only be three causes (from most to least likely):
1. A hack is abusing the lobby map transfer command, forcing targets to attempt to allocate a retarded amount of memory.
2. Your map is over 8GB.
3. Some weird corruption is going on. (Yes, an 8GB map is more likely than this)

Jun 14 2010, 6:45 pm TM-Magic Post #52

I just don't see how any of those 3 are even possible.

1) When the crash occurs, it happens every single time on that version...to all players when they reach a certain area. it creates a crash sprite and then when a player looks over there boom.

2) I guess this is the most likely but I don't see how because I doubt every single person who've played my map when it crashes as the same 8gb ram I have. I mean wouldn't it crash sooner if not? Also, I don't see how a map could use 8 gb of ram considering it doesn't have a shit ton of triggers...I mean I guess the sounds could do it but again I don't think so especially since it creates that crash sprite. I'm probably just ignorant on the whole memory consumption thing, it just sounds like a lot of memory when your talking about starcraft 1.

3) I think this is very likely still too seeing as I did run into corruption on the map earlier and I had to revert back to an older version. (It was running a trigger I clearly deleted for w/e reason).

I have random crashes occasionally when I'm playing my version of Desert Strike (v1.2). Usually my friend and I both crash.

Here's the error log:
ERROR log

Jun 14 2010, 11:51 pm Heinermann Post #54

SDE, BWAPI owner, hacker.

@NudeRaider: You're not using any hacks? That crash occurs when a unit is referencing a bad sprite pointer. In your case, the unit is probably dead. Some action is occuring on a dead unit. Either that or it's a Terran Marine.

@HCM™TM-Magic: I think you initially posted the wrong error log, because that error CAN NOT match your description of what happened.

Jun 14 2010, 11:58 pm NudeRaider Post #55

We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch

The map doesn't have sprites or unit sprites. But I have some P255 geysers and possibly one or two other weird things but most of the time it's working fine, so I doubt it's something I preplaced...

My friend uses Oblivion for various non malicious intents but he doesn't activate hacks.
Is it possibly caused by a drop hacker?

What exactly do you mean with action occuring on a dead unit (there's plenty of marines dying and spawning btw.)? Can you give me an example?
Like a trigger action? Or a user action? User action is actually possible since I think there's a tendency to crash right when I click one of my worker or a computer unit. Tendency. Not always.

Jun 15 2010, 12:20 am Heinermann Post #56

SDE, BWAPI owner, hacker.

The fact that you're using an extended player means there is a buffer overflow happening in various other places (yes various, more than you know). By altering data unintentionally, the game's behaviour can change depending on the result the extended player/unit has.
I have no idea what "specifically" happens to cause such a problem, but my only suggestion is to avoid using extended players/units.

Jun 15 2010, 12:28 am NudeRaider Post #57

We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch

OK thanks, I'll remove extended players and report back after enough games to decide whether it's fixed or not.

Jun 15 2010, 6:19 pm TM-Magic Post #58

Ok that's possible because I didn't clear the list lol sorry to waste the time. It doesn't really matter since it was "resolved" tho I suppose it might resurface in which case I'll make sure I give you the right log. Anywho, I do have a separate crash on a different map now :D

Here she be:
Correct Error

Edit: Ok so I figured it out myself finally. It was a terrain crash, its odd tho cuz I removed all terrain and still crashed earlier, but now that I did it again, its fine.

So this is RESOLVED.

That's weird. It's the same crash as bad sections (the map is invalidating after it starts).

I just implemented a picture into this map and it crashes whenever the game starts. How can I fix it?
