Lizard 37

A puzzle map for the veteran puzzle map player. Made for the puzzle-themed Weekly Mapping Contest.
Players: 3 (cooperative)
Levels: 9
Difficulty: Medium to Severe.

F.A.Q.

What's going on? What do I do?
It is up to you to figure out what is going on, and what you should do.

Is this even possible?
Yes. Each level can be solved in a systematic fashion (i.e. by thinking rather than guessing). The hints at the beginning of each level are copied to the mission objectives, in case you miss them the first time around. The information in the hints is often vital to finding the correct solution.

Why is it called Lizard 37?
Indeed.

Why do you hate people so much?
Hey, if I really hated people that much, I'd make it genuinely impossible, instead of merely difficult. As I said, each puzzle has a solution that can be arrived at by reasoning.

The beginning. I'll leave it to you to discover the rest...

Development Status

This map was designed from the get-go to be made and tested within a few days. It is thus complete, unless any serious new bugs are found (which I don't expect, given the testing that has been done so far...chances are, if something doesn't seem to work, it's because you don't understand what it's supposed to be doing in the first place).

I haven't had a chance to play through this yet, but just judging by the topic it seems to be a pretty interesting map! This weekend I should be able to gather a couple players and play through it.

As for everyone else, try the map out! It was for the weekly contest!

Magic box god; Suck it Corbo

I tried this yesterday on map night and we couldn't get past the second challenge.

PS. since when was a soul a bad thing?

Yeah, the first level is easy in a way that the others aren't. The second level's solution is the sort of thing that I know I would think of, but I hear that a lot of people are having trouble with it. Now, I'm not in the habit of giving out hints, but I'll give you this much: When I was giving my testers a tour of the map, and I told them how to pass level 2, they saw immediately how the solution fit with the hint. Keeping your mind open and your thinking flexible will get you through a lot of the puzzles in L37. Well that, and sticking with it, of course...

Alright well, I can't find team mates good enough for this. I am willing to put in hours of time. Anyone want to play?

I'm glad to see that people are keeping at it! That's what the map is made for...it's not something that you open once, beat in 10 minutes, and never see again.

That said, if this map is still too difficult after repeated attempts, you can use the (varyingly cryptic) hints below. They're not solutions by any means whatsoever, and may, in fact, add to one's confusion if they are misinterpreted. But hey, I wouldn't want to put the work into making the map, only to give away the answers, would I?

Re: Wing Zero - Soul is a bad thing in this map because you have to dislike it alot in order to make a puzzle map as cruel as this one. :)

Yes, it's difficult, and your team of whoever it is should be ready to replay it numerous times over the course of days before you expect to solve it all the way through. If you can actually do it, kudos to you: I'd recommend that your next project would be becoming a forensic investigator, which could very well be a cakewalk after this...

You're thinking too hard about the meaning of the words. Think about it this way: What are the most simplistic kinds of movements you can make? How is any movement made at all? See if you can't use this with part of the hint given to decide what you need to do.

Yes he is.

Not a good way to think about it, the simplest movements are 1 dimensional, this requires 2 dimensional thought/movement.
