Dungeon Master

I fully support DevliN's being our next admin. I trust Moose's thinking in this case, and from personal communication with DevliN I believe he is qualified for the job.

Devlin is the best candidate.

I don't like that Devlin sticks to his guns, because I very much dislike his particular guns, but we need someone and he's the only one I can think of who I'd trust to at least do the community part and who wants it.

That is to say, I dislike his SCII-policies, admire his... err... quiet handly-ness, and hopefully his policies for SCII will have no effect.

Voted for Devlin.

By the way:

[21:54] devilesk: what are his
[21:54] devilesk: sc2 policies
[21:54] Andrew: He's against the crack.
[21:54] Andrew: Also, I'm playing, leave me alone.
[21:54] devilesk: who cares
[21:54] devilesk: about the crack
[21:54] devilesk: WOW HUGE POLICY
[21:54] devilesk: QQ
[21:55] Andrew: ... Very, very useful. I'm convinced, he's perfect! xDddxXx 8======D :D
[21:55] devilesk: GOD FORBID WE HAVE AN ADMIN WITH INTEGRITY
[21:55] devilesk: THAT'S AGAINST PIRACY
[21:55] devilesk: OH GOD NOOOOOOOO

In case people have no idea who Andrew was in Devilesk's scenario, that's me. xDddxXx 8======D :D

Again, though, as long as Devlin is kept away from the make-decisions-to-make-SEN-an-attractive-SCII-website department and focuses on community management, that's fine. Might even be better than Moose. Who isn't slowly phasing out, but who seems to have completely phased out :P.

Can you elaborate? Aside from my stance on the SC2 crack and coming up with the layout for the SC2 forums, I'm not sure what this refers to or is based on. I'm curious what this is supposed to mean, basically.

I've been around as long, if not longer, than wesmic. He can vote "no" if he wants to, as anyone can. I think it would be fair to ask why people would legitimately say "no," however.

From his post, I take it he thinks I may bring down SEN, or he's just doing it to be funny. Who knows.
Well, I was around long before you, but that doesn't matter.
I voted no because you would be filling a position that(let's face it) doesn't really need to be filled. There's enough of mods and everything like that on SEN and I just don't think SEN needs 500+ moderators. Enough is enough.

What I have to work with when deciding how I feel about your policies is basically you being constantly against anything not explicitly approved by Blizzard. You continued supporting that path even after it became clear that it was putting us far behind SCII Mapster. So I wouldn't trust you to be in control of doing what's necessary to determine SEN's course in a SCII-related-context.. It's really all I'm basing what I'm saying on.

Actually not by much. I joined SEN in 2004, and was lurking the TeamSE forums prior to that. You may never have known about me, but I have been here as long. :)

And you are right about us not needing more higher mods (our team of Global Mods are doing a great job so far), but Moose's admin position is necessary. Whether it's me or any other person who has been offered the job, that spot is needed. In this case, I'm already a mod and will be doing the same mod-work I am now despite my title here.

Cent, thank you for clearing that up. I'm hoping that once the game is released in two months, we'll see a bigger surge of members either coming back or coming here for the first time. By it's release, my goal is to fill our wiki as much as possible and ideally make SEN a viable resource for map-making in SC2. I don't regret my decision with the SC2 crack mostly because no other Global Mod and neither Admin said we should support it otherwise. Had anyone else suggested we allow it instead, I would have supported that choice. As you can see since you have access to it, I did actually ask a couple times in the staff forum about what other people thought regarding the matter. Since I seemed to be the only one openly posting about my opposition to the crack outside of that forum, I inadvertently became the official crusader against the spread of the crack - not something I was necessarily hoping or planning for. I think in the long run, it wont have that much of a negative affect on us. I have faith that we'll end up where we need to when SC2 is released.

how about taking a different stance then? perhaps SEN could be a gateway to cater towards the average mapper, but only an intrinsic team within has the power to call something a SEN map.
what i mean to say is, purge the garbage maps and terrible threads. take a step towards arrogance and elitism.

elitism attracts people, most come to verify that the prestige given is true, and some come merely to play devils advocate.
consider teamliquid; although it is now full of egocentric kids who desperately need to have their opinion head, and even more importantly, agreed with, the actual team itself is inherently "elite". liquid nony, TLO, nazgul, are some of the top SC2 players atm. even though subpar players scratch and yell in the strategy forums they never do. They exercise their opinions and ideas through empirics. And only they have the power to deem a post newsworthy; the mundane posts and threads are left to rot, feed the unintellectual, and most importantly, attract people, all whilst maintaining their stance.

Any SEN map should be quality, and over time people will notice. it has to be perfect, a crack in the machine hurts reputation.
Justified by a thorough and complete wiki, slowly people will transgress from SC2 mapster.

Meh... Devlin's good..
Nothing really interesting, tho, as he has had moderator status before...

As long as he's not jittery with the banhammer.
All other arguments are moot, as he'd become admin no matter what...

LOL gotta love typing a long post, going to click on the "facebook" tab and hitting "Stumble!" on my firefox addon.

Jeez.

In short:
I was around these forums ~3 years ago and actually registered and got SOMEWHAT involved ~2 years ago.

As long as I remember, Devlin has always been around and he was always a nice guy.

He had some pretty good relations with Oo as long as I remember(formerly a big member or a leader of it if I believe? it's been too long to remember).

I had a few encounters with him, the one I remember most being his willingness to make me a forum signature when I asked.

He's been around, stuck with it, and I see no qualms about him.

As for the popularity of the site, I know I intend on coming back for SC2 and I hope a lot of Oo will stick to their word and come back for SC2 also, but life happens and I fear we may not see a lot of them return.

Good luck with the website with SC2 release around the corner :D
