I order you to forgive yourself!

For some reasons, sometimes when I test my experimental maps, it breaks the name I picked and I can't host using that name anymore. It's been over a month and those names still don't work. Anyone knows what makes that happen or how to fix it?

PS: Name = game name you choose before hosting.

Its cause is ostensibly the server failing to remove a game name from its list of "occupied" names due to the queue for server requests to fulfill being too small.

I just use my game name appended with a few characters like <<.

What are the exact names of the game names? If you have an invalid characters in them, they simply don't work.

(I remember a few invalid characters work, though...)

None.

I used to host using zk until I broke it, then I used zk1 (Broke again). Now I'm at zk2...

I think all the time it broke, I was playing with EUDs, could it be related?

If it's EUD related restarting sc should fix it.
However there's a bug in bnet that games stay on the gamelist for days or even months. It's funny because you can see yourself hosting a game that doesn't exist anymore. So maybe you can't reuse the names of these games.

May 17 2010, 2:06 pm Zhuinden Post #6

Yeah, and I personally have no clue why that happens. It was funny when I had some sort of confrontation with Viper and said Oblivion is awesome with his name spoofed, and that name stayed there for 2 weeks.

None.

What if someone uses that to just block all names that are always used?

I'll guess it's not EUD related since all the people that tested could not host with those names.

O.o? Care to share the "secret" with me too?

Well... Problem was resolved, I can't say anything more about it or it could make a lot of hackers make new hacks that disables all the possible game names making battle.net harder to find a working game name.

SDE, BWAPI owner, hacker.

They can already do that. It's not a secret.

I hoted a game before and left, but the game remained. normally it would have 6 bars and i would be unable to join it, but i joined one and the screen went black and froze when i did... yeah... freaky, i know...

If all fails, add a space to the game name.

I don't think so, it was new to some other famous hackers/coders.

Not the same thing. Still cool.

We could permanently take up every single possible game name, making hosting games physically impossible to do, for almost forever. And by "almost forever" I don't mean like two weeks, I mean likely FOREVER.

Don't bother asking for any more info. Heinermann if you really think you know how, PM and I'll say if it's it or not.

I don't know if this is related, but I lost connection to b.net and when i went to reconnect it said "CD Key currently being used by Alicia" and I am Alicia... It's stuck in some sort of loop and is REALLY annoying :(

SDE, BWAPI owner, hacker.

I didn't say I did. But I know other hackers who have been messing with game creation. I've experienced such a reservation of a game name myself. It lasts about 2 weeks or so, not forever(You're obviously a liar if you claim it lasts forever). You can "renew" the reservation though. I havn't even glanced at Battle.net packets, so it's understandable that I don't know much about them.

If you did make such reservations(every possibly game name) as you claim you can, then Blizzard will probably reset the game list and ban your account and CDKey, thus effectively nullifying the FOREVER part of your statement.

I'm also assuming it can be done using 1 CD-Key, 1 IP Address, and 1 account. If it uses more than that, then it really is nothing special.

@StarBlue: just wait a while and you will eventually be able to log in

May 31 2010, 4:01 am TiKels Post #17

Assuming there is no blizzard intervention it would last forever. That is what I meant but could not find the words to say, pardon the confusion. You do not have to be online for it to be unhostable. It's not a "reservation" in the sense where a game name is reserved for you, it's just unhostable. I know it could be done for every possible game name, but whether it would be able to be quickly done via a program I do not know. I am not a hacker.

Apos "banned" (for lack of a better word) two games (inadvertently) using only one CDKey, IP address, and account.

Starblue, I've had the same happen to me, wait awhile and it should fix itself.

How would it be done for every possible game name? Send me a PM, I'm quite curious. ;)

Anyway, it's possible to simply ignore the "Game name already exists" message [with hacks] and create the game anyway, replacing the existing "broken" game. That being said, it's also possible that one can use this exact same exploit to remove legit games [or "lat games"] off of battle.net's game list by replacing the game name, and then leaving it right after, thus removing it.

And if you "reserved" every single game name... Well that would be kind of hilarious. And for all we know, battle.net could have a melt-down and go boom. ;}

1st paragraph. No.
2. Really? Does that work for games that have been started or just games that are in the lobby?
3. Battle.net would probably go down due to too many games going on at once, it'd just be like "LOL ONE SEC, BRB, SIGNING OFF EVERY USER AND ENDING EVERY GAME." Would be lultastic. I'd like to see what Blizzard would do about it. Then again, the servers aren't even run by blizzard. AT&T runs them.

Edit: If you think you can reopen the game names Apos listed, go ahead, be my guest, it would be informative.

The names he listed work fine. They were never closed to begin with.
