Interesting idea... Would work well with my labyrinth idea. I'm strongly leaning towards the second idea, though.
Speaking of my labyrinth idea, I did some hero concepting and game design for it. I've decided to implement a hybrid of DotA and TS-style spells. Each spell can be upgraded up to four times, with the first upgrade also "unlocking" the spell. Spells must be unlocked in order, but that's the only restriction.
Hero ideas:
Pyromaniac (Reaper)
-Flaming Discorpriation: Teleportation, doing damage to enemies between the departure and arrival locations.
-Wall of Fire: Fills the targetted area with fire, preventing movement through it.
-Immolation: The Pyromaniac lights himself on fire, damaging all nearby enemies while the spell is in effect.
-Firelance: Fires a fast-moving bolt of fire at all nearby enemies. The bolts do 50 + (500/number of bolts launched) damage.
Grendel (Infested Terran)
-Howl: Enemies in the targetted direction run away briefly.
-Charge: Rapidly runs up to an enemy, inflicting damage based on the distance traveled when in melee range. The spell only lasts a few seconds.
-Devour: Kills a spawn (either allied or enemy) for bonus energy and health. Has a cooldown but no energy cost.
-Maternal Vengeance: If Grendel dies within three seconds of casting this spell, his mother (Queen) is summoned. She has all the same spells, except Maternal Vengeance.
Mechanized Skiff (MULE)
-Plant Mine: Places a mine.
-Phased Cloak: Cloaks the Skiff and lets it pass through walls or other units.
-Self-Destruction: Kills the Skiff and all nearby enemies. Does not count as a death for the Skiff.
-Secondary Skiff: Summons a smaller and weaker version of the Skiff.
Bibliomancer (High Templar)
-Equip White Tome: Cancels all other "Equip" spells and gives increased health regeneration while in effect. Cast while already in effect to instantly raise health.
-Equip Black Tome: Cancels all other "Equip" spells and gives a range and damage increase while in effect. Cast while already in effect to summon a Chaosbomb (Baneling) that can destroy walls of the maze.
-Equip Blue Tome: Cancels all other "Equip" spells and increases move speed while in effect. Cast while already in effect to raise speed dramatically for a few seconds.
-Equip Violet Tome: Cancels all other "Equip" spells and speeds up energy regeneration while in effect. Cast while already in effect to create a Psionic Storm.
