I know so many people who wish they could get starcraft with better graphics, a sort of Starcraft HD. Just replace the graphics but keep everything the same - all the units, mechanics, and so on, since it is such a flawless and fun game. Now, with the sc2 beta going on, whats to keep modders from taking sc2 unit graphics to create a mod for sc that just changes the graphics (and the mod would be able to play multiplayer with non-modded sc copies)? (For sc units that have not made the cut in sc2, we could perhaps replace their appearance with new sc2 units)

Would any modder here at SEN be interested in undertaking such a project? I know this would be so awesome and appreciated (and mad popular) if it were done!

SC runs at a fixed 800x600 (or was it 640x480) resolution, and AFAIK units use small color palettes without alpha transparency.

Anyhow, couldn't the tileset be modded too? And I understand you can't perfectly copy over the graphics but couldn't you maybe use some minor paintshop editting or something?

Sure, you can change the tileset.

Personally, I like the standard GRPs.
Completing this mod would require SC2's data files. We would have to extract the models and render them in 256-bit colour. Resize them, rename them. Write new iscripts for them. Set new launch points for weapons. Terrain is difficult and tedious to edit to begin with. --> You're asking us to do a lot more than you think.
How do you know that many people would like the mod and it would be popular and stuff?
It is apparent to me that you are using "appreciated and mad popular" as an incentive for us modders to do something. How do you know it will be "appreciated and mad popular?" What if I don't care about "appreciated and mad popular?"
Interestingly enough, there are hacks to increase the resolution of StarCraft. (Just throwing this out there. I don't have any. Maybe. <_< >_>)

I have an Idea. Since we can windowed mode starcraft, why don't we just forget about graphics and code inject a larger window size?

Thats already been done. With the recent windowed modes, you can go up to 1280x720.

What?! Where can I find such graphical awesomeness?!

Just get the Resolution hack. It may be hard to understand it at first (and it may crash a couple times), but you get a list of a lot of different resolution. (Make sure you choose one that is compatible with your graphic card or it will crash...)
